  • I danced in the morning when the world has begun, I danced on the moon and the stars and the sun <3 my fave bit , I sang this in school years ago XD

  • Beautiful! Favorite hymn!-3 :D

  • Awesome! It gave me chills =)

  • I can Hear This

  • @eemendo Me too. I can hear all sorts of things, including yodelling and farts.

  • awesome

  • Simply beautiful. Those comments of discust are sick. It is good that the Lord is forgiving!

  • jesus loves all people, including those 50!

  • Beginning was good but by the end it became very melodramatic and lost it's edge.

  • 2:17 that woman on the right looks so fucking bored..xD

  • im not religous but i still think this is a good song to follow and the way they performend was amazing <3 :D :D

  • wow

  • Doesn't fit with the song itself... Go back to the Dubliners' version, it's the best

  • i have only one complaint. this is a dance song. not a fucking dirge.

  • still get goosebumps, breathtaking

  • Allelujah!

  • 0:39 Looks like "Phari$ee".

  • This was one of my favourite songs to sing at song to sing at primary school, along with Colour of Day :)

  • I can't believe anyone could be negative about a song rejoicing in the lord. I can't get the smile off my face every time I watch this clip. It makes me feel connected to the lord and at peace.

  • Awesome video and a smooth melody from LordSong

  • unglaublich schöne Version, die Drei singen sooooo gut !

  • at my school we sing this hymn and we do it better than these three

  • Jesus is NOT the Lord of the dance! Whre is it written in the Scripture???

  • @MarkOpee1 It's not written in scripture, but where is it written that a song of Praise and Worship has to be based on Scripture? If you want to get technical about praising God and Jesus, many hymns should be removed, because their tunes are based on drinking songs.

  • @stalkingwolf1954 "where is it written that a song of Praise and Worship has to be based on Scripture?" Guess what you asked here!!! Of course a worship song has to be based on the Scripture. What else should be the base? If you google for "Did Luther use Tavern music?" you will find some interesting info. These "drinking song" terms are only repeated cliches which most of the people who quote it never researched directly.

  • @stalkingwolf1954 The rest of it is based on Scripture however. The Scribes and Pharisees wouldn't follow him, etc. And if you research the old testament you will find that people have been praising God through song and dance for centuries. The psalms were songs of praise and Became part of scripture. Also try listening to Kris Kistofferson Why Me Lord.

  • It's not an "olde hymn", written in 1967. This is a pretty shmalzty version.

  • @rr733 too true

  • Good try! Not the best voices...lol

  • I still get goosebumps

  • Not for woman to sing.. sorry to say dubliners does it much better

  • @rr733 we, Irish always do it better..... wtf? are they trying to put a blues feel to it? because its not working

  • what are the names of the singers

  • A little vocal training and a few pointers and this trio could be outstanding. Very good effort!

  • beautiful

  • 和聲很正...很好聽!!

  • BEAUTIFUL! I want to dance!! (o:

  • Awesome.

  • @tacodude1 I know you mean well, but your language is quite offensive to many. Remember that many do believe what you do not. Many would appriciate it if you edited yourself next time.

Thank you and I pray that may God work in your heart.

  • @tacodude1 the expletive is unwelcome

  • @pavithric thank you for telling me the group is LordSong. Do you or anyone know if this arrangement can be purchased in sheet music?

  • @lisawlee4 dunno, sorry

  • @lisawlee4 look up "simply gifts" by aaron copland and there are the notes just apply the notes

  • Wow is this good, who are they?

  • @ArticleTen LordSong

  • I love this version. Can someone tell me who arranged this version?

  • @lisawlee4 the name of the group is LordSong

  • @lisawlee4 Arlo Guthrie.

  • @Bristow42 What is your problem? Do always talk about the Lord that way?

  • This is beautiful! I am speechless!

  • Not sure I agree with the theology. Did Jesus dance?

  • @atonementwHm Zephaniah 3:17 says "The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing." The word rejoice here is gheel in Hebrew, which is defined by Strong's as "to spin round (under the influence of any violent emotion) i.e. usually rejoice - be glad, joy, be joyful, rejoice. This is the word used to describe the dancing & spinning that went on at the Hebrew festivals.

  • @atonementwHm Hahahaha!!!))) Brilliant question!!)))

  • @atonementwHm The author of this song, Sydney Carter, is not really known for his theology, but then this song isn't really a theological statement. It's a creative allegory, comparing the life of Jesus to a dance. However, the biblical and historical evidence strongly suggests that Jesus did dance, as dancing was part of Jewish culture back then, just as it is today. If you need more clarification, just ask.

  • @atonementwHm it is maybe not certain...try to replace dancing with living....its just that he came here and was spreading love and joy

  • @atonementwHm All the time. Peter called Jesus the dancing divinity. Of course, he was a parttime stand-up comedian.

  • @atonementwHm That's not the point my friend, dance is a joyful metaphor... This song carries a great message!

  • @atonementwHm Socrates said: that is the good warrior, who can praise the gods by dancing.

Aside from the much abhorred polytheism (by monists and closed hearted bigottrists), Augustine said that the true religion was there before Christ even came, and one of his examples is Socrates. Man always had a way to reach out for God. Chris's coming is not about fulfilling this need, but that of redemption.

  • At 0:23 I saw Yoda in the backround 8O! I had to see it four times, then I suddenly realized it´s cameraman :D

  • Wonderful take on what was my favourite hymn as a child.

  • Postponing the next bottle of vodka and a balalaika aside, walk with my house bear and other dung what happens in my country, I will ask one, and than you admire?

  • this was this is the song that ever year 6 class requested for the leavers

ceromony i sooo miss Holy Trinity Primary this song just brings a smile to your face.

  • Very grate vide what the name of the singner

  • @infirmiere92 Michael Lord, Kim, and Amber

  • dancing on the sabbath is a sin! BLASPHEMARS

  • Very pretty singing, nice voices and harmonies, but this is supposed be a dancing song, it should be fast and energetic like the dubliners version. But still, very pretty.

  • f**k censorship

  • From the original: 'Tis a gift to be simple, tis a gift to be free, tis a gift to come down where you ought to be..." Judy Collins does a great version, so does William Warfield. These folks changed the word.

  • The prince of this world is the devil. What is so important whether it's the devil on your back or the world on your back? they are the SAME....I don't know about your bible, but mine states the pince of THIS "world" is the "devil".

  • bravo!

  • i'm having this sung at my Wedding, would love this version though.

  • I really like this song. I did seem like they rushed it in the beginning, though.

  • I just adore this version. Wish I could sing with somebody this song....

  • Where can i download this song

  • no wait its.... its hard to dance with the devil on your back.......

  • Its ok but the original by the Dubliners is loads better. Why do some poeple want spoil great Irish songs?

  • @JoeRyanHolland Dude. I doubt either were spoiled.

  • @apostolicaspie

This song was written by Sydney Carter, and English Quaker. He used the American Shaker tune "Tis the Gift to be Simple." Like all music it belongs to everyone--but it isn't particularly Irish.

  • @RachelInCalifornia Agreed! That's how I started back listening to this song. I learned about "Simple Gifts." One song happens to be more big, more majestic; the other is more cheerful.

  • well he is british who made the song, he was born in england, not very american

  • Incredible

  • eine anbetungswürdige Interpretation dieses Liedes. Wow

  • The key changes could've gone smoother

  • pianoplr, who does the bible say is this world's prince? world, devil... six of one, half-dozen of another.

  • I absolutely love Lordsong and their amazing harmony. God definately blessed them with their voices.

  • Absolutely amazing song. Love it

  • Who is this group?

  • The name of the group is LordSong.

  • Sounds great!! :) Although the original version is "It's hard to dance with the devil on your back" instead of "world on your back." The devil exists, censorship won't change that!!

  • @pianoplr lol

  • @pianoplr there is always one in the crowd.....

  • @pianoplr

Exactly, I was thinking about the exact same thing when I heard they changed the word.

  • @pianoplr I don't think it was censorship, just every artist adds their own spin. I do feel the word devil makes more sense

  • @BABY4241951 In a way I think they may have been trying to express the idea that Jesus took on the sins every person that had lived and would ever live, and in that way the world was on his back. Yes, the devil wanted him dead that day, but praise Jehovah God that Jesus' death on the cross was planned from before the foundations of the world. Jesus took on the punishment for our sins, rising up alive by his own might three days later conquering death for us.

  • @pianoplr I agree with the original version lyrics being better. However, I won't jump to the censorship level. Simply a different arrangement by a different group.

  • This is a beautiful version, even with American accents ;-) . Loved how they all slowed down on good Friday and then celebrated the resurrection in the last verse! Woo hoo!

  • this is the only song i've ever heard that gives me shivers

  • it's pronounced correctly fool

  • dance is pronounced like prance... not like ants.

  • yeah ok it's a bit difficult to know how u pronounce prance...it could be pronounced two ways...

  • yea but prance is also pronouce like ants

  • that is how you pronounce it!!! WTF?!

  • Haha, I watched the Dubliners version and really liked the song, but didn't realize how religious it was. Which, watching this, should have been blaringly obvious. Yay lack of basic observational skills!

  • they were good, alought i personally remember this hymm to have me of a swing to it if you know what i mean, like country style song.

or thats how i prefer this song to be sung, everyone has their own veiws.

  • this is fantastic!!!!

  • I woke up with this tune running through my mind. It reminds me of my Lutheran Elementary School days.

  • me too, what lutheran school did you go to?

  • Lovely!

  • to Bertie 233

Ah well we heard the the song in the the 50'ties, and I am not sure but I think John Alen Cameron recorded it in 61 or 62. Mind you like many songs such as Morning Has Broken, ( "Leanabh an Aigh" Child on High) and Over The Sea to Skye etc., it is in the Gaelic that I may of heard the song. Historic not religeon corrections very welcome

  • Fantastic Close harmonies, and Brilliant arrangement, Has to be one of my favorite, i love the Round part that then splits into harmony at the end, this has got to be one of the reasons i started a choir!!!!!

  • don't like this version. the dubliners' is the best

  • I love this song, using only their voices making pure music!

  • According to Wikipedia the hymn isn't that old after all .... written in the 1960s ...

I still love it and I think this performance is excellent!

  • Its was written as a poem around the time Christ was born, It was updated to a hymn in 1960's and was updated into a world Class musical piece in the 90's (Riverdance)

  • its over 300 years old my friend

  • Can you give me a source which states how old it is then?

  • nope its OVER 30 :L lmao

  • The audio doesn't quite match up with the video.

  • This song was sung in the hope the hope that the Protestants in Ireland, Scotland, England, aye England also would not understand they were praying which would cost their lives. Which could be taken just for the hell of it as they grazed on the grass. A nice urn about from the Catholics killing the prods a few years before All for the Prince of peace. See John Alan Cameron for a great version.

  • You are peddling absurdly wrong and bigoted hogwash--"Lord of the Dance" was not written hundreds of years ago during a time of religious strife but rather in 1963 by English musician and poet Sydney Carter.

  • your so wrong

  • Their American accecnt is just to strong for the song. Well Im Australian so accent is proably doesnt do it good justice when Irish people hear us sing it.

  • I'm American, and I HATE our accents. just sayin

  • i love this song, me irish blood so can dance

  • Very nice.

Good ahrmonies, maybe not same as more Irish versions, but no worse, to be sure.

  • love it.....

  • wow! one day i will be singing in somthing like that (i hope!)

  • 75% Irish :) love this song. heard it in mass one day and loved it since. sadly songs r sang better in church then internet :(

  • Live is always better than a recording.

  • Doesn't matter if you have any Irish blood in you or not, anyone can enjoy this song, :).

  • I would love how they sung it if they didnt put so much emphasis on the"ay" sound like in the word dance.

  • Great hymn, though not really that old since it was only written in 1963.

  • i'm 25% irish - no idea what its gotto do with anything lol :D

  • horrible singers

  • Beautiful, but lacking the Irish accent

  • hey i'm 6% irish and 1/2 percent german, and i'm 2 percent french, so don't insult us irsh decents - of irish blood okay

  • they sound really bad.... I love the song just not how they sang it.

  • Very spiritual

  • The S-es look look liker dollar signs seriously. $

  • Wow, as many times as I've watched this, I never noticed. I wonder why it's written that way...

  • Very well done. Love the stepping down into the minor. And the addition of SoGo devices was quiet and exceedingly tasteful. Well done!

  • Sydney Carter wrote a number of Quaker songs, including a song about George Fox. Was/is he a Quaker?

  • Not as far I know - he was an Anglican who attended his local parish church. Carter was definitely interested in the shakers, an off-shook of Quakerism, and LotD was partly written written to honor their beliefs.

  • how i download it?

  • 2:00-2:10 - goooooosebumps!!!!!

  • Wow...I love what they did with this song. The way they went into a minor key when it got to the crucifixion part and ended it with the picardy third.......man i'm a music nerd, lol. It's just a shame that their acapella album wasn't any good. They had to ruin it by adding that electronic crap to their voices.

  • oh..i love this song..wen sing it in the church..greetings from germany=)

  • This song is beautuful no matter how its sung. It doesn't matter if its an Irish or English song, the lyrics are the true beauty of the song.

  • Hi every1

The fact that we all like this tune enough to argue over it is is actually really funny...

Its a unique tune and any country would be proud to have such a song associated with it x

Lets just be happy that both entities like the song!

    Nite nite

  • what to the S' look like $' and the C's look like cents..

  • Is that Sarah Palin? 0_o

  • actually it was originally a poem by an Englishman called Sidney carter some time before 1915 exact date not known

facts come from a book called 100 greatest poems before anyone yells at me

  • Are you serious?!? Great rendition my arse! its crap, totally ruined. Its so american and dramatic and shit! ITs an irish song, try the dubliners or jim mc cans versions. This shower of fools murder this song.

  • Yeah, they ripped all life from the song.

  • Once again some one else who thinks its an irish song it was written by an Englishman in 1963

  • Quit complaining and go attend some UKIP or BNP meeting where you can spout your xenophobic nonsense to applause.

If you're offended by that then reread your post - it's how you come across.

  • Not offended, simply stating a fact. Thats an irish song being sung badly by americans. And xenophobic means a fear or dislike of anyone different than yourself, I simply stated that these fools ruin a great song......YOU TWAT!

  • You didn't casually reference the fact that they were American, you equated American with dramatic and sh*t. That's offensive and stupid and would make you fit in very well at a BNP meeting.

  • BNP?? wat are you talking about.... British National Party?? The song sounds shit because they do an american version of it. It sounds shit because the song is an Irish folk song and i know how its suppose to sound.

  • Like "danny boy" the song was written by an Englishman, but stolen by the irish american dispora

  • Stolen by Americans? It's an American tune. It was written by Shaker Elder Joseph Brackett in 1848 in Maine as "Simple Gifts," and popularized by Aaron Copland (another American) in 1944's "Appalachian Spring" it wasn't until 1963 that Sydney Carter (English) set this Shaker tune to "Lord of the Dance." Sorry, but the tune is quintessentially American, not English or Irish.

  • Saying they ruin it by doing an American version is like saying you can ruin "Lord of All Hopefulness" by singing it "too Irish." The original tune, Slane, and the first well-known hymn set to it, "Be Thou My Vision" are both Irish. Just because an Englishman sets new words to an old tune doesn't erase the old National character of the song. That said, I don't like this version much, and I far prefer the English tune for "O Little Town of Bethlehem" !

  • The lyrics shithead are written by the Englishman, Sydney Carter as you rightfully wrote. This video is not just of the melody is it?

  • Wow, what a respectful dialogue we're having here, englishjac. Yes, Carter (a relative of mine actually) put new words to a well-known American tune. Doesn't mean the English now own it for all time and any Americans singing it are "stealing." By the way, the English side rugby team don't own "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" either.

  • Well you English have no rhythm but we Irish do!

  • Thats what you call it, most people refer to it as noise.

  • Well we have more fun than you do!

  • englishjac, y'all are cousins with the Irish. Irish have a lot more fun in life than y'all do

  • englishjac, what's your problem with Irish music, sounds deeper

  • @englishjac but it keeps us entertained thats all that matters :)

  • i'm 1/16 english/british blood and we have great rhythm and i'm mixed with Irish, french, and german also so talk what you know

  • Okay, sorry to offend. Forgive? Irish have more rythm
