wanna cut spending? get rid of social security. people should work no matter how old they are. how did reaching a certain age become a license to loaf? s.s. is the ultimate welfare program. as long as it exists any other spending cuts are just a joke. but no tea baggers address s.s. do they? hmm, i wonder why? not to mention medicare, the abomination that steals medicine out of baby's mouths in favor of people who'll be dead soon anyways. brilliant!!!
It's clear that the Lion's died too soon. Only one person has actually learned from the ways of Ted Kennedy, and he's taking flak from all sides of the political spectrum for it.
i hope there's a public option...i'm kind of tired of paying $700 per semester for insurance that hardly pays for anything and doesnt have dental. pretty lovely.
where in the world are you paying $700 per semester? is that for you alone? next with a public option who is going to pay for it since the government doesn't have any money? I think that you may believe that the government is there to be your friend,,,but trust me it comes at a cost...your freedom when the government is strong the people become weak and then we work for the Gov.instead of our elected officials working for us!! becareful of what u wish for annie....freedoms not really free!!
yup i am, it's required if you don't purchase insurance elsewhere, they won't let you go uninsured. i wouldn't be so mad about it but it doesn't even have dental! i mean, you could at least give me that, haha. and i don't expect anyone to be my friend, but i do think we have a moral obligation to keep the American people healthy. i believe God would want us too anyway.
I am sure that you are right when it comes to what God expects of His people. I also know that He wouldn't be in favor of Government regulating it. Because when God talks about the Government He says render to caeser what belongs to caeser and to God what belongs to God, He also told peter that His kingdom is not of this world so God is not here to regulate our government he has given us that responsibility, that is why I believe america has been so blessed because we are a free society!
And when I say a free society it is a place where everyone has the same opportunity to set their own course in life and not be told what they can and can't be by a government. Freedom is truly not free but having lived in multiple countries, I haven't found one where I would rather live than a free and democratic America that believes in the free market and capitolism. the good thing about America is that if you want socialism you can leave and live in any country that has it w/o Gov restriction
Democrats lead the way again and again and again, taking the uneducated, blind masses with them. Then, when it becomes politically correct to support the good ol GOP jumps on board to act like they support something.
that my dear friends is the definition of socialism...where the government is strong and the people are weak...,that is not america...we elected them they work for us, we are strong and God willing this next election we will show them who is truly boss and who is the employee!! I say to the government contimue to protect us from terrorist, protect our borders, and take care of the old and weak but let the rest of us work out our own way..I don't want your help because strings come with it!!
this would lower cost because then we could have more competition across America, also deal with tort reform and throw out these crazy lawsuits...allow for competition across borderlines for prescription drugs this is the type of medical reform needed not the government running it., Think amtrak or the post office they are so far in the red they don't know another color, why would this be different?? The Gov. works for the people but if we allow them to expanding then we will work for them....
The problem that most Americans have with the government running a healthcare option for people under 65 is that it would take away the free market principle on which this country is founded. Who could compete against an entity that is being supported by their very own tax dollar and then they have to turn around and pay taxes on all their employees and cover cost that the government doesn't. If you want more competition make health Ins. just like car Ins. where you can buy it anywhere in the US
Critics complain that a public plan has an inherent advantage over private plans because the public plan won't have to show profits. But plenty of private plans are already not-for-profit. And if nonprofit plans can offer high-quality healthcare more cheaply than for-profit plans, why should for-profit plans be coddled? The public plan would merely force profit-making private plans to take whatever steps were necessary to become more competitive., that's a plus.
Critics say the public option is really a Trojan Horse for a government takeover of all of health insurance. But nothing could be further from the truth. It's an option. No one has to choose it. Individuals and families will merely be invited to compare costs and outcomes. Presumably they will choose the public plan only if it offers them and their families the best deal -- more and better healthcare for less.
See, that's the difference here. I do think your health is my problem. In fact the people of the nation need to be concerned with each others health. The healthier we are the longer we can contribute to our national economy and wealth and the better off as a country we will be. We all owe each other health care. It is a basic right. Even tribal villages understand that. It is not selfish, it is unselfish, everyone should be taken care of, including you
watching this video made me realize something: there is no way they will EVER get a bi-partisan bill on this one. Look at the republicans, how fucking out of touch insane they are? There is no middle ground to be found with loonies...

The gov't promotes not working. Their are those who can't work yes but then you have your lazy asses !!
dude, a public option could not possibly keep prices high simply because it is not compulsory. It is an option. If u don't like their product, u stay with ur private option.
Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs shows that a person cannot build self-esteem until their necessities & security needs r met. (ie, u cannot aspire to advance ur career if ur homeless bc u lost your house due to no insurance & medical bills)
Naturally, without healthy self-esteem, people can't become creative & productive members of society, for one can't hold others in high esteem if one does not highly esteem oneself. Therefore, UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE is in the ENLIGHTENED SELF-INTEREST of us all!!

Don't believe their lies & hype! No one should get rich off of sustaining misery! Life Liberty & the Pursuit of Happiness? NO health care, no LIFE! NO health care, no LIBERTY! So the repubs will literally go against what they believe in in order to have obama fail. They obviously have become nothing more than a party full of hate.
the FECAL SHRAPNEL OF CONSERVATISM DESTROYS LIVES!
if they had their way:
Pro-life = NO abortion (mutilated women & lives) What then becomes of unwanted children? NO Sex Ed to prevent unplanned pregnancy. NO free Pre-Natal care for the impoverished, NO Universal Health, NO Public Housing, NO Welfare, NO Public Education, Punitive (NO rehabilitative) Justice system that criminalizes victimless crimes, until ultimately: YES, DEATH PENALTY!
Article 25 (Universal Declaration of Human Rights) Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.
when it was up for vote in the UN, we DID vote in favor of it. (along with like 48 other countries or something like that). It's a shame the power of the dollar is stronger and it isn't a "legal" binding document.
there's more than enough to go around to ensure everyone's basic needs, incl. health care. We (still) have the wealthiest country in the history of the world. The false scarcity model that many r laboring under induces a kind of reptilian rejection of empathy & a gluttonous celebration of greed. fuck that noise.
There is more than enough money BECAUSE of the relatively free markets we enjoy. The more industries are socialized, the less wealth there'll be to spread around. In the extreme, you have an almost completely socialized N. Korea where they don't have enough food and health care.
Socialized med. violates the right to property.
It reduces HC quality and increases wait lines, thus causing more to die earlier. Reduced life and property tend to reduce happiness.
all of your points are EASILY REFUTED by merely pointing to the 30 or so other industrialized nations that have some form of Universal Health Care, nearly all of which have lower infant mortality rates, higher life expectancies, more time with skilled physicians per dollar, & greater overall approval rating than our current, broken, exclusionary system.
Yeah when you get too partisan you begin to loose your real values and things stop making sense. Youd think that for all of the rhetoric against single payer that the conservatives have been using they would be against medicare but...in order to look good to old folks and make sure obama fails they betray their own ideals. What a god damn joke.
is that you in your featured video? If it is, please take your head out of your fat ass. You sound fucking retarded.
And what is up with the mask lol. Anyway, you are nothing more than a far left liberal, who wants everyting free in life. If you were rich, i doubt you would be a liberal.
the mask/voice, as stated on my page, is merely a JOKE. it freaks out conservatards for some reason. that's the only reason I keep it. you guys are easily threatened I guess.
If I were rich, I wouldn't be a Liberal? Like George Soros, 90% of Hollywood, Turner, Gates, Cuban, the Kennedys, Gore, et al? sorry loser, Liberalism isn't a result of economic circumstances, it's a result of CARING ABOUT YOUR COUNTRY.
Al Gore is an exaple that u give? Are you serious? A lot of those people do it for fame, and PR. We do care about our country, and therefore we do not think expanding welfare is such a great idea. Too bad promising poeple more money for less work conveys liberals like you.
why do you always reply to me? Ofcourse there are people who are rich and arent greedy. I'm merely saying that majority of people would not be that way if they hit the jackpot right now. Maybe you, or someone else would, but a lot of peopel wont.
It may be that he has observed some people acting that way, but it's a gross generalization to say that most people would. He has not observed most people in the world. Therefore, he has generalized.
so you think the majority of people would be generous if they suddenly got rich? Very few poeple get rich by being a nice guy. Isnt there that one saying that a person says he can validate all the money money he earned except his first million?
The mountain of MORE generous Medicare/VA is not where the Cons want to die. This is a diversion tactic that will backfire, but the right is willing to do it to derail Obama.
As DeMint said they need to break him and this his Waterloo. That's the plan. It's why you have the 24/7 character assassination of Obama on Fox News.
The right is lost in the woods and shouting "fire" until anything they say catches on. Just because their louder doesn't make them right.
"No one has talked about Death Panels as a scare tactic" HAAAAAAAAAAAAA.......HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA....HAAAAAAAAAAAA god damn it thats ballsy of him to say
You've actually got it mixed up. You can only use reconciliation when the issue does affect the budget. That's how Bush rammed his coroporate tax cuts through.
its sad to watc hthe GOP grasp at straws and not think for two fucking seconds that maaaybe their own past will play against them. you cant be for medicare when you denounced it for so long and not expect people to call you a liar.
Repubs are trying to get the seniors vote by scaring them with lies and then telling them they will protect them. Much like how Bush scared America about Saddam and told us he would protect us by invading Iraq. When will they realize that it is evil to continue with these types of tactics?
burntonion05..It really is something some little kids could think up...I don't think they will fool many! But both sides play this way and we are the losers for it, nether honor the constitution..Obama backers used a $550 billion 2 hour draw on our money markets on September 15 2008 that started the panic that led to the bank bailout and his many crisis agenda..Just like Bush and his Patriot Act and Nation Building agenda..When our leaders don't use the constitution as their guide we get this
Burnurass...I can see your a lost cause for a few years anyway..You will get it sooner or later, you still believe in this Narcissistic jackass, I would love to see the change..He still is using Bush tactics, like Stimulus plans that just add to inflation by a unbacked dollar..Lets see, we will sell China our bonds at 1.5% on a 18 month note then print the money when its do.That's what Bush did ! And it is Unconstitutional . Are we still nation building ? How are we paying that ? Bush 3rd term !
Magurufukuru...So true...But do you think they will get mad ? Or just even ? 70% of China's free assets are in our country now, they are trapped into backing our dollar..We buy all there crap they make too ! Great comment ! I never really thought about, just don't pay in the end, but most likely you are right...
China won't be able to do anything if we declare that we're not paying them. If they try to get some kind of trade censure against us the entire western world + japan and south korea will tell them off and if they tried military action the entire planet minus cuba would come to our side.
We can't get single payer with 51 votes. It would affect the budget. you can't use reconciliation to do anything that would affect the budget, so we can't do it that way.
Steele is very transparent in his ploys. This is the RNC's way of saying to seniors, "we're the ones who are here to protect your interests." ...
... so that they'll themselves as potential victims, healthcare reform as the their enemy, and those nice Republicans (who have fought Medicare since before its inception, and ever since), as their knights in shining armor.
BTW, they're not playing to, "the Greatest Generation" they're mostly dead, now. This is for elderly boomers.
If anyone is still confused about the health care bill you may find the information on my profile in the comment section helpful. Also included are ways in which you can get more involved including phone #'s, petitions etc..
Whom else could they appeal to as they've managed to alienate and offend everyone else? First they scare them into believing Obama will kill them via the 'death panels' and then they release a plan that comes to their rescue? Seriously, is this the best they can do?!
I giess I'll have to just hang on and wait until I'm elderly to get health care...
I think Anthony Weiner should have his name legally changed to Anthony BALLS, because he's one of the few Dems I've seen lately who has any! I would love to move to NY JUST so I can vote for him!
You know that feeling when somebody is making a complete fool out of themselves without being aware of it? It's painful to watch and you'd like to help them, yet you're not sure how to do it in a dignifying way.
That how I feel whenever I listen to Michael Steele.
Or rather a hero who sees how regressive and infantile republicans are and have been on EVERY major social change of the last 100 years (civil rights, social security, medicare, you name it) . Democrats have a mandate for change, if they do not deliver, they are just as low as the republicans
We need a single payer health care plan, like Medicare, for everyone. Now Republicans finally see the light, I guess.
Rationing? Death panels? If you want to find rationing and health care -- look at Aetna, United Health, Blue Cross, etc. EVERY OONE OF THESE CORPORATIONS HAS A DEATH PANEL,(or several,) AND THEY ALL RATION CARE.
No. Fuck you. Obama is an enemy of the people, Pelosi is an enemy of the people, Baucus is an enemy of the people, every single republican in america is an enemy of the people, the anti-socialist protestors are the enemy of the people. There is absolutely no way to be opposed to something that would immensely benefit the entire population without any drawbacks without factually being an enemy of the people.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Plus, I don't think I'd consider people who were too dumb and misinformed/uninformed to vote for FDR 4 times in a row "greatest." Their support of all his big gov't, big spending agenda was the CATALYST for the Fair Deal and the Great Society and all the crap that came after it. I mean, the welfare state now has passed up defense as a part of national spending! Medicare and SS will bankrupt us if we don't do something soon.
FDR is considered by both historians and citizens to have been the greatest President this country has ever had. The top three are FDR, Washington, and Lincoln. If YOU don't like FDR (and your grandparents, apparently), then that's your own opinion.
And is anyone ever gonna question this "greatest generation" crap I always hear about? It's just like how we Americans are indoctrinated to respect and adore military service no matter what, and being against a war is "unpatriotic." And we bawl and complain when a troop comes home in a body bag, even THOUGH we knew all along that probably was gonna happen sooner or later. I respect the fact that WW2 vets fought bravely against the axis, but one thing doesn't make u the greatest generation.
Sure, some of them have to be in nursing homes, and they do tend to be bad drivers, but on the whole, I think seniors can handle themselves a lot more than we assume. If they'd just save up for retirement, they wouldn't even fucking need SS or Medicare, really. I find it hard to believe that only a very small percentage of seniors collecting SS were able to save for retirement and invest in a 401k or mutual fund or whatever. SS was designed to be assistance, not the entire income, for seniors
And the funny thing is that when people say "greatest generation", they don't actually MEAN that being born in the late 1910s and 1920s was the greatest time ever, but that the PEOPLE in it were "the greatest", which I find to be a ridiculous distortion of the term "generation." A generation is the sum of all the people and things involved in that time period, not just the people born in it.
I consider Gen Y the greatest, really. I mean, we've got all this awesome technology and whatnot.
Maybe it's time to break out that Ronald Reagan anti-Medicare record the Republicans sent around in the 60s to remind the seniors who has traditionally defended Medicare and Social Security and who has (and still is) opposing it?
Republican shills on the interwebs are whining that we should get rid of both programs, but you'll never catch an OFFICIAL Republican politician saying that. But we've got evidence. VINYL evidence.
except for slavery and civil rights for blacks pencil dick, if it wasn't for the republicans you never would have ended segregation when you did. I hate when these talking heads spew factually inaccurate bullshit
If Abraham Lincoln could see today's Republican Party, I'm fairly certain he'd ask for his dues back.
Trent Lott, 2002: "When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. Were proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldnt have had all these problems over all these years, either.
AND - (I'm just getting wound up here), the Civil Rights Act clearly had bipartisan support in the House (split across the Mason-Dixon line rather than party lines), majority Democratic support in the Senate, and was brought home by a Democratic president (who acknowledged sacrificing the southern Democratic party for a generation in order to do the right thing).
that doesn't change the fact that it still never would have passed without republican support. there were too many dems who woudln't vote for it. Just because they were in the south doesn't change the reality that they were dems

Reduced HC choices violate liberty.
freesk8 2 years ago
all of your points are EASILY REFUTED by merely pointing to the 30 or so other industrialized nations that have some form of Universal Health Care, nearly all of which have lower infant mortality rates, higher life expectancies, more time with skilled physicians per dollar, & greater overall approval rating than our current, broken, exclusionary system.
No health care, no LIFE! (duh!)
No health care, no LIBERTY!
No health care, no HAPPINESS!
REAL PATRIOTS SUPPORT UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE!
baronmorris 2 years ago
None of those countries have our levels of immigration from poor countries. None of them have our racial diversity.
Yet if you compare the health of those who immigrated to the US, it is better on average than that of those who stayed in the old country.
Sorry, dude. You don't know what liberty is, and how it is beneficial to the poor.
freesk8 2 years ago
This is so confusing...we can have one type of socialized health care, but not another?
belgurdo 2 years ago 3
Yeah when you get too partisan you begin to loose your real values and things stop making sense. Youd think that for all of the rhetoric against single payer that the conservatives have been using they would be against medicare but...in order to look good to old folks and make sure obama fails they betray their own ideals. What a god damn joke.

And what is up with the mask lol. Anyway, you are nothing more than a far left liberal, who wants everyting free in life. If you were rich, i doubt you would be a liberal.
sharinganclan213 2 years ago
the mask/voice, as stated on my page, is merely a JOKE. it freaks out conservatards for some reason. that's the only reason I keep it. you guys are easily threatened I guess.
KataVideo 2 years ago 3
Al Gore is an exaple that u give? Are you serious? A lot of those people do it for fame, and PR. We do care about our country, and therefore we do not think expanding welfare is such a great idea. Too bad promising poeple more money for less work conveys liberals like you.
sharinganclan213 2 years ago
Believe it or not, but there are people in this world who have money and aren't greedy about it. Grow up and get a conscience.
p00lman 2 years ago
why do you always reply to me? Ofcourse there are people who are rich and arent greedy. I'm merely saying that majority of people would not be that way if they hit the jackpot right now. Maybe you, or someone else would, but a lot of peopel wont.
sharinganclan213 2 years ago
meant to say that you or someones else would not be greedy, but a lot of poeple would.
sharinganclan213 2 years ago
It's weird that you generalize that rich people are greedy and therefore conservative. You have a very low opinion of humanity.
p00lman 2 years ago
That's not a generalization it's an observation.
Magurufukuru 2 years ago
It may be that he has observed some people acting that way, but it's a gross generalization to say that most people would. He has not observed most people in the world. Therefore, he has generalized.
p00lman 2 years ago
so you think the majority of people would be generous if they suddenly got rich? Very few poeple get rich by being a nice guy. Isnt there that one saying that a person says he can validate all the money money he earned except his first million?
sharinganclan213 2 years ago
It doesn't matter. It's a bad idea to generalize that most people, if given the chance, would act like greedy scumbags.
p00lman 2 years ago
I've observed the behavior of most rich people. they're greedy. it's an observation.
Magurufukuru 2 years ago
Yes, I'm sure you've been around millions of rich people so as to make that observation.
Idiot, learn the English language.
p00lman 2 years ago
1. there aren't millions of rich people in the world
2. I don't have to see something first hand to observe it. I can observe actions.

Truthiness231 2 years ago
Repubs are trying to get the seniors vote by scaring them with lies and then telling them they will protect them. Much like how Bush scared America about Saddam and told us he would protect us by invading Iraq. When will they realize that it is evil to continue with these types of tactics?
burntonion05 2 years ago
burntonion05..It really is something some little kids could think up...I don't think they will fool many!

Uwiluz60 2 years ago
Good thing is we don't have to actually pay China back. They're going to be the ultimate suckers on this one.

I never really thought about, just don't pay in the end, but most likely you are right...
Uwiluz60 2 years ago
China won't be able to do anything if we declare that we're not paying them. If they try to get some kind of trade censure against us the entire western world + japan and south korea will tell them off and if they tried military action the entire planet minus cuba would come to our side.

SS was designed to be assistance, not the entire income, for seniors
whoo689 2 years ago
And the funny thing is that when people say "greatest generation", they don't actually MEAN that being born in the late 1910s and 1920s was the greatest time ever, but that the PEOPLE in it were "the greatest", which I find to be a ridiculous distortion of the term "generation." A generation is the sum of all the people and things involved in that time period, not just the people born in it.
I consider Gen Y the greatest, really. I mean, we've got all this awesome technology and whatnot.
