Stand under the glide path of an airport some time. IIRC there was usually a short delay between the plane passing and the sound. Maybe a few seconds. If it was funnel shaped I think I would have heard it get closer or even felt it, but I've never noticed that..
I differ in opinion from this video, large plane vortices often trail behind the plane a considerable distance (watch some other nasa /boeing votice tests.) and you will see the vortice is not right on the planes behind. all you are seeing is the rolling of the explosion.
Those are not vortices. Vortices cause funnel shaped air movement that can last for many minutes after a plane leaves that air space. You are pointing the shape of the dust cloud at one moment in time. The effect of vortices actually stop the air from rising normally. What we see here is normal air movement "up" with no disturbance in the air flow at all.
