Definitely agree with people who say it's old fashioned. I love Chicago and have been there countless times but the 'L' simply looks like a joke to European metros like Madrid, which I've ridden. After all, the CTA is dying for funding, it's no secret. Sad, but true.
Here in NYC they are replacing the old cars with new ones. You can't stand in the first car and look out the window anymore unless an old train pulls in.
That actual car shown is the oldest of all of the types of cars still being used. This one is not even wheelchair accessible (there is a divider between the doors which does not make room) These cars were made around 1968. Yes it is a little embarrassing when i ride this and I see people from (England) on it and it only rides ten miles an hour at the most.
Those are the 2200's. Built by Budd in 1969, first stainless steel cars for CTA, and the last with folding "Blinker" doors. They are now 40 years old and still running.
@IBMeddling ...I'm from England, and I could have just stayed on the El all day when i visited Chicago...it's a fantastic way to get in and out of the city, and good fun!
Ok, sorry, I din't know, but I'm used to European public transport which seems much more modern, so I thought that u were keeping the old trains and the infrestructure because it was typical, because it's quite noisy, dirty and remind of Chinese or Latin American public transport
And u OBVIOUSLY don´t have to be a detective to realize that. I am, OBVIOUSLY a European tourist (u can see it just by clicking my nick). But, why do u say that? Is something wrong? Chicagoans dont film in their own city?
actually chicago is a very commercial city. All we do is take pictures and video of the community. I apprieciate you posting this vid. Yeah the cars are older than that of europe, but they also serve a different purpose. And the city has different priorites than european cities. Im sure you are very well aware of that.

That was actually a Pink Line train. It is the newest route, but it uses some of the oldest rolling stock that the CTA has.

Chicagoans usually too "busy" to film stuff like that, I'm guilty, but you are right European stuff is WAY more modern, I lived in Paris too.
