I barely play the "right" chords to any song. I play covers to suit me better, change them round a bit. If i had the time to sit down and play things the EXACT way an artist does, then i probably wouldnt have as much fun.

i like the video, i don't understand why people are giving you such a hard time. i personally haven't listened to any elliot smith before but after watching this i think i'm going to go find some. it's nice to see some girls on youtube can have talent instead of little clothes, and actually sing. keep up the good work!

Nothing angers me more than when someone has an elitist attitude about music.
I am seventeen as well, and Elliott Smith is my absolute favorite artist.
Age is never a limit to creativity or interpretation.
How does an individual state the correct interpretation when it is merely a matter of opinion?
I thought it was an interesting take on a classic Elliott song, and I thought you were brave to do what you did. I'm sorry some people are so unforgiving.

I really liked it, too.... "chester" is CHEESY! Ha ha ha, get it? Anybody? No? Alright. No doubt in my mind that you've got an amazing voice and are really talented... I do get the impression that you're not really FEELING the song, though. Almost looks like you're faking it a bit. That's not meant as an insult or anything... but really put yourself into the song, don't "perform" it, ya know? Might be even more fun for you.

I barely play the "right" chords to any song. I play covers to suit me better, change them round a bit. If i had the time to sit down and play things the EXACT way an artist does, then i probably wouldnt have as much fun.

I am no fan of Elliot Smith ... bores me frankly. But your interpretation of the song is cool. I am curious though how it would sound a half step or maybe a step higher. Despite what some people have said, your voice is really suited to this type of song I think. It's all opinions when it comes to music, and there are no rules or right ways to perform a song.

face it you still can't sing. No matter what you tell yourself. You will always be a little Australian girl with sub-parr guitar skills and a "twangie" voice. The only reason guys tell you "you can sing" is simply because you are cute. You are being railed on for your spelling & incorrect chords by a tuber misspelling chords (cords=corduroys:) Plus, didn't see any ToS req's to know the original singer or to make every version identical. If so, delete all youtubes & stick to iTunes for the real deal. Maybe someone wanted to "bone" or is a relative of ES (or both?) to spark such hate? This is the real deal. I luv it. Search YT for ES versions; you'll see. This isn't an insult--see it as a tribute to an artist both appreciate.

Sorry miranda...maybe if you did a bit of research...you'd realise in AUSTRALIA...and like many places in europe....we spell it "REALISE" with an "S". I'm sure you are a smart enough girl to "REALISE" that different countries often have different spelling for words.
