this is a classic because it is a cerebral horror-not straight up blood and gore-which are fine if in the right context or setting-john carpenter is a great director-this is why movies like "paranormal activity" and the great new movie "insidious" are always going to be scarier than "freddy vs Jason"-I think George Romero said it best "they dont make horror movies they make action movies and call them horror"
In fact, i think he is hated only by americans, or unfortunatly for example by people who think that Saw5 is a good movie (so, american people)... But in Europe, especially in France, everybody considers John Carpenter one of the best director of all of time.
As far as the zombies go, I think she was the creepiest. No emotion at all. However the Black Guy (can't think of his name) who went around singing Amazing Grace and stabbing himself in the neck, who would go through laughing and crying fits was also pretty good.
@mikebott I think the guy who says, "Come out. I have something to tell you" was one of the grad students. The homeless guy shoved a bicycle frame into somebody's gut.
"Hmmmm I think I will go into the basement where the vile green liquid is pooled upon the ceiling and sit under it with my mouth wide open." Didnt see that comming lol
Actually, she stood under it, but I know exactly what you're saying. LOL I LOVE!!!!!! this movie, God darn I do. It's one of the best movies ever made.
Too bad there's a important sequence missing, when the woman (played by Anne Howard) is outside the church, up the stairs, looking at the doubtful Wyndham with dagger eyes as she sends him to death.
He ended up trying to kill himself before the demons took him over completely. He took a stake and jammed it into his neck. didnt do much good though..he ended up wandering around like everyone else.
Actually she didn't become a zombie. That was canister was liquid satan. When it sprayed in her mouth she became an entity of satan

I love the pulsing soundtrack throughout the whole film. You forget it's there at times, but it adds to the tension.

Many americans like John Carpenter(most hardcore horror fans) Halloween and The Thing are two of the best movies to me.
