The Velvelettes eluded major stardom(even though they could sing most of their competition under a table) They had identity problems;Their name sounded too much like the Marvelettes-And Martha Reeves kept borrowing members from this group to join her Vandellas.
Wow! I have this record at home, but never have played the flip side. Now, after hearing it, you can best believe I'm going to play the heck out of it. I think this side was good enough to have been a hit in its own right. Cal Gill's vocals really stand out on this one, and you gotta love that harmony!
Wow! Then you must know more than her best buddy,Martha Reeves...But THAT might be true also... I mean, you wouldn't have to stretch your imagination-This WAS 1963-women were "still" trying to please their husbands...so...
The Velvelettes auditioned at Motown with There He Goes and Should I Tell Them, two songs that they wrote. Mickey Stevenson's name appears on the printed label credits and he helped them to put it together. The girls didn't mind at the time as all they wanted was to hear their record on the radio. They learnt the hard way sadly.
This was pantomined with Cal, Annette and Gail on Dick Clark's "Where The Action Is".
This is such a cute song

This song was written by the Velvelettes whatever it says on the label.
When the Velvelettes auditioned at Motown, they sung this song and it helped them pass their audition one cold and wintery Saturday.
Listen to the way Cal holds that note at 2.34. You can really feel her on those lyrics. And listen to those harmonies.
Thank you SO much for playing this.

One again, my favorite Velvelettes recording. It's weird, some copies call it "Should I Tell Him" and some say "Should I Tell Them".
