I've been a guitar player my whole life, and tried to dabble in blues, I understand the progression's just never really was able to play it. I have had a uke for like 3 years since Hawaii, and picked it up today and watched your video, and playing fluent blues. weird it took the uke to make me understand it better :D THANK YOU, will transfer to guitar in future :D
Little confused at 2:28 because the materials I read count the strings C G E A being 1, 2, 3, 4. You plucked A E G C strings with the second finger on the G, reverse of what I'm used to. Thanks for the lesson!

Hello again. Well, I went ahead and bought the tenor Risa solid and I like it very much. I am going to get the friction pegs changed out for geared tuners though. I wanted to ask you if I can use a wound string for a low G? Also, could you post a video of how to change the strings? I'd really appreciate that! Thanks
Hey, Hi there, I am at the beginner stage , Well, I am before the beginner stage, I am getting my uke ate xmas lol, but I will be following your vids :)
My idea of what is played on the ukulele has been cracked wide open!! I'm so excited to start to work on bar chords and blues for the ukulele. Up to this point I've just been learning chords via writing music and learning songs.
lol blues and ukulele shouldn't be in the same sentence!! ukuleles are so happy and cheerful! and yes, i know that blues is based on chord progression, not the lyrics!!
Very helpful. I am just starting on my Uke. This was very clear with just enough information so that it didn't confuse. Even the theory part of 1-5-7.
Thanks for that info. Glad to hear about the geared tuners. I'm much more likely to consider it now. But where can I get one in the U.S.? Thanks Ellen
Hi. Thanks for this great lesson. Clear, concise, very helpful. So glad to "meet" the designer of the Risa. I've been investigating the possibility of adding one to the growing collection. Looks really good for travel! However, I'm just not sold on the wrap around tuning pegs. Any chance you could put out a model that has a small headstock and geared tuners and the rest built the same as the "stick"? Not to mention, a U.S. distributor would be really nice. Thanks again for the lessons.
@ellendxyz The Uke-Solids (sticks) will be available with geared banjo tuners soon. The Concert model is already out. Soprano and Tenor will follow during this year. Regards
Thanks for this! already wrote my own song today 10 minutes after watching your video. Wanted to upload it as a video response but somehow it won't let me. Maybe later. Thanks again! Very helpfull
Danke Rigk...Gut belehrt und eine große Hilfe beim Blues spielen. Die ukulele ist wirklich eine tolles Instrument! Wir erwarten mehr solche videos...Ed aus Los Angeles
I am so in love with mine ! Im already planning to get another one, a I want to get a Kala tenor one with really good strings ! Im learning fast ! Just got a Beatles for Ukulele book. THE UKE ROCKS !!!!
Wow. I didn't realize. I have one more question(s)? I am planning on purchasing a Tenor Uke stick, however I am wondering if you can play it without an amp... with Comparable acoustics to that of a standard Uke. I wonder if you could do a video with all three (soprano, concert, tenor) Uke sticks so we can get an idea for sound and size comparisons... After trying to do some research, I found that many people are asking questions in forums about these "unknowns".
The Solids are almost silent without amp like a electric guitar without amp. I don't think the Solids are "unknowns". It's the most sold electric ukulele worldwide. There is also a comparision video available of all three Solids. Search for "Solid Blues Shuffle" in YouTube.
I have had my Tenor uke stick for a year now its perfect for sitting in front of the telly and practising scales and chords , i play it every day maybe just ten minutes a t a time but its small enough to keep with you and play without worrying about anoying others . THEN PLUG IT IN TO AMP WOW !!!! it comes alive and really a pleasure to play. wonderful instrument
Well, I am the designer and manufacturer of all RISA instruments. I designed them the way I like them best. What else can I say about my own creation.
Thank you Rigk! I really enjoyed learning about the blues on the uke! I have watched your video about 5 times! Thanks for taking time to show us how to do this.
So glad I found thsi video. I bought a Uke yesterday and was very frustrated not being able to just pick it up and play - so I searched for blues tuition as I am at happy improvising with blues on the guitar. Thank you so much for getting me started on this new instrument!
i recently bought a concert lanikai ukulele and i've noticed that the E string goes out of tune when i play any of the frets no matter what the pressure, is there anyway I can fix that?
If it has the same tuners as the Lanikai Baritone, you can tighten up the tuners at the top of the uke by using a crescent wrench. Go gentle and do it in small stages but I think this will do the trick. If this doesn't work, I would change the strings which might be stretched. I have had great luck with Martin strings but GHS and D'Addario are also of high quality.
i understand how to use a tuning knob, my problem is when it is in tune, checked by a tuner, using the tuning knobs, the c string and e string both go sharp on the 2 fret and up no matter the pressure i put on the string.
I had the same problem. All fretted notes were sharp on all strings. This was due to the height at the nut being too high. When the slots at the nut were filed down everything came together. The only thing to watch is that you don't take the nut too low or you'll have buzzing issues with the open strings. Good luck!
I teach uke to kids at my school, sometimes they ache from gripping the uke too tight against themselves with their right arm, scared they will drop it, this gets better as they relax more. Are you looking down at the fretboard as you play? Try different positions perhaps cross your legs and rest the uke on your knee or if standing hold it higher against your chest so the right arm is supporting the uke from underneath. hope this helps a bit - damyon.
I've been playing uke for years..and I never thought about playing blues with those Chord inversions ..I always did like guitar in "E"..You've inspired me into greater things now...Thanks and keep doing these lessons ..they are spot on old boy.b
This is the BEST uke lesson. Your explanations are clear, concise and the visual chart of the chord is great too. I have learned a lot just from this 10-minute session. Please make more learning videos. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Hello, and thank you for the video! What type of ukulele are you using, is it soprano or concert? I want to learn to play the ukulele, which type do you recommend?? thank you!!!
It is an electric Uke'Ellie-Tenor by RISA Musical Instruments. I cannot recommend a scale to begin with. Most people start with sopranos, but I think you can also start with a concert or a tenor.
omg pleae choose an accent, you have# the weirdest accent ever, its so anoying for the fact I never know what accent you have some times your sound from america, somtimes irish, somtimes spanish, oh god my head (O_O)
This is good information, a free workshop, for an old bull. The best way to transform information to your known and unknown fellows. In Hawaii they cal this kind of sharing "Aloha spirit".
I would not play the Blues any different on a soprano. But on a soprano you have less space, therefore I would mix different chord patterns during the Blues chord progression. This helps to stay in the lower frets. I will explain that in my Blues-DVD "Learn to play Blues Ukulele", which will come out 1st of October 2007.
