NASA figured out and Goldie concurred that Columbia was already in frame. And because he had to push the release on the camera (no cable release) the bright orbiter left a squiggly purplish line before the camera settled to motionless. The reason you see a dimmer, straight trail on the left side is because the shuttle's trail is persistant. A lesson if you're going to take long exposures of a reentering shuttle, use a cable release and open shutter before shuttle is in frame. ..no jiggle!

My 2 cents is it's a hoax.

1. Photographing a object moving at 17,000 mph with a 35 mm camera and a telephoto lens on a tripod is very hard to do.

2. The frame 2:42 of the photo you show and report the shuttle to be the "green streak" dose not vaguely resemble the shuttle. It could be anything.

3. The frame 3:15 you report the "plasma particle weapon" to hit the shuttle. The debris flow is moving along with the shuttle. If the anything hit the shuttle

NASA's explanation for the Columbia being hit by a piece of ice-filled, high-speed foam is not credible. The Shuttle and the tank were travelling at the same speed. The icy foam only had a few feet in which to be slowed. The difference in velocity between the Shuttle and the foam was minimal.

(as a comparison) Throw a box of tissue out of your car window at 60mph, with the side of your car having a thin layer of styrofoam on that side. the box WILL damage the styrofoam.

The shuttle TPS is somewhat similar to compressed house insulation. it doesnt take much to damage it. Even rain can.
