this song is so beautiful I want to marry it. But "spit on a stranger" is also so beautiful that I would marry both of them and have two families like those bastards that I sometimes watch in the news.
You need to just relax and not think about anything? Pop this sucker in. I'll never understand the bad reviews. It may not have the grit that the previous ones had before it, but still, it's an amazing swan song.
this has been my favorite song for years; i listen to it on repeat for hours. hands down the most comforting song i have ever heard. i love it so goddamn much.
@Mynameispigeon "This is the former putt-putt course on the corner of SE 122nd and Division in Portland, OR. It closed a few years ago and is now a tire shop. I don't know anyone who grew up on the east side of Portland who didn't have at least one memorable night at this place. So sad to see it gone..."
I stumbled on to this song a few weeks ago, then promptly bought all of Pavement's discography. This is still my favorite. The guitar and the atmosphere is absolutely unbeatable.
@tribestros You really bought the whole discography due to this one song? *wow* - wise decision...it took me quite awhile to digest their stuff, but it's worth it.
Right on, it really sucks, i mean here i am a chink in India and these guys are from the U S of A who are into indie music and all that jazz, rhythm&blues. but they never ever seem to have heard of Pavement, well Sebadoh and Guided By Voices too. guess it is the commercial thingies4them like the shins, death cave for cutie and yucks,Taking back Sunday??????
@MrtheEstrada What do you mean "nobody gives pavement the credit they deserve"? That's some pret-indie "so underground" garbage right there. Two of the biggest rock critics on the planet, namely the music critic for The Village Voice and the Senior Editor of Allmusic guide, called Pavement "the best band of the 90s." If anything, they get too much credit. They're a good band, but, god damn, they're not that good..
Glad they reunited. Just saw Cracker (Camper Van B) perform in Portland. It's nice to see my gen x bands perform live. Makes me feel 20 yrs younger for a minute or two.
This is my favourite Pavement track - its too bad they didn't play it on their 2010 tour when I caught them! This also cracked my list as one of the 5 most inspirational songs on my blog
Ben Gibbard wakes up in the morning and cries because he can't write this song. Malkmus gets it on the first attempt and moves onto other styles without breaking stride.
reminds me of the last summer in the 90's..sitting on the porch and drinking lemonade in the hut sun..i dunno why..maybe it's the sad element of the song that makes me nostalgic.
lol, the Fall having been bitching for years, even though Malkmus has credited them with being a major influence. It's sorta like calling eric clapton a hack 'cause hendrix influenced him. get a life, and listen to great music...like pavement.
evo - show me the quotes and/or any source and fair enough - i'd change my mind. never heard him say owt. i'm sure you know influence is different than being a 'rip-off merchant', irrelevant point. i have a life, and was listening to pavement, hence the comment.
Fuck alternative music since the 90s, what a disappointment. Bowie wannabes and Devo rip=offs. The bands in the festivals now could all die of carbon monoxide poisoning for all I care.
God bless Pavement, superchunk, Fugazi - it could all come back but will it compare?
Totally. The music of the early '90s, before all this pretentiousness and bad facial hair, was THE best. Bands like SP, Hum and Local H were to one side, and lo-fi glory like Pavement was to the other side. And the radio was playing stuff like Crash Test Dummies, Nirvana, etc. Hasn't been a better time for music since.
Hopefully it's a broader tour with a regional stop in the Southeast. There's no band I'd rather see get together. Imagine thier takes on the old stuff, plus years of maturity. Should be damned interesting.
No new material planned, just a tour. Tix go on sale tomorrow for the opening show. Plenty of time to die inbetween now and then, nut I'm willing to take the risk!
I just love how their songs rock and they seem absolutely effortless when it comes to performing them and the videos are so very amateur but amazing (because so).

@sayatakpunyanama
Easy answer really: You want all of them!
"Slanted & enchanted" (debut album, raw & genius)
"Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain" (Prob biggest hit, cool & classic)
Wowee Zowie (Edgy awesome and odd)
"Brighten the Corners" (Return to cool with some classics)
And..."Terror Twilight" (break up album, lyrical genius, more rounded but maybe my favorite)
