I asked my future daughter-in-law if she knew who JLL was/is.. She said she didn't but she is only 26 yrs. old. OKAY, I have some educating to do. She will love him when I'm done!! My son who is 30 knows EVERYTHING about JLL. I made sure of that!! Love you Lerry Lee!! Sheri (o:
This is possibly one of my favorites of Jerry Lee. Hearing The Killer makes me happy. I would much rather have him playing on the radio than some of the artists nowadays.
Seeing Jerry Lee in this kind of venue is a treat. I only got to do it once but it was wonderful and worth it (in Los Angeles in 1980). Earlier, I saw him at the Tucson Gardens when I was at the University of Arizona. He was a total wild man with long, wild (for the time) red hair. I had never, in my conservative background, seen anything like him. I was hooked for life!!!
This first picture was taken at Star Musicland in Paintsville, KY in 1980. My white drums are in the shot and our piano player's white piano... lots of stories from this gig that confirm he is in fact "The Killer"... Jerry Lee Lewis, you are one of Rock 'n Roll's few true legends.
Saw Jerry Lee live during his tour to the UK at the Majestic Mitcham (Surrey) in the early 1960's. The tour was cut short (due to his marriage to a 14 year old girl) and Jerry Lee had to leave the UK under a heavy cloud.
Despite this, a very enjoyable evening was experienced.
@terareelaine Cousin by marriage if thats how you understand it, but it certainly does not seem to be clear public or even fan based knowledge and you dont seem to be totally sure yourself, she was still only 14 yrs old however you define the word cousin related or not.
To marry at that age must have been the law in where he lived at the time, but if anyone had those intentions now they would be put on the sex offenders list !
@pedalman Yes, I am unsure, just something I heard from somewhere that added to my lore of JLL. The point being, as you pointed out, public knowledge is unclear. Yes today he would be a sex offender but was not true at time of his marriage. Tho not the norm, it wasnt that unusual either, particularly in less urban areas of the south. Since we dont know, we should hear all the rumors then. Personally, its all over and done, why dont we just enjoy the music and not dig in the dirt.
@terareelaine I agree we should just enjoy the music , and although history cannot be erased we need not bring it up in conversation .......its the way comments get you hooked and we feel we have to reply , but yes it was not uncommon back then especially in the deep south .
Should we underline this thread now and relegate it to history ?
@pedalman Actual events may remain unchanged but our knowledge is changed with every author, every story told as well as our perception of the story told based on mindset of the day we live in. So no, I would say leave the history to the historians, to those who are willing to do the work of hunting up a few of the facts. Unfortunately, most of our history books are written by authors whose main source of info on events comes from previous authors of history books. lol... Good conversation, ty.
@terareelaine Very good point you made there about knowledge changing with every author and we hope that their information is correct. Stories get changed from author to author and is also dependent on their personal beliefs and opinions.

I saw Jerry Lee in a small club in LA in about 1980. My girlfriend knew JW and she said she could arrange for us to go back stage during the intermission. I didn't think she could pull that off but she did. I sat with Jerry Lee and she took photos. He was so sweet and a total gentleman. I have the photos in my album and I love them. They are treasures!!! What a memory!!!
He is unique for sure . I saw him in his small night club ,one night in Memphis. He has it downtown for a while . I just came in the door as he was coming out one facing it and I just stood there !
Just sitting here wonderin what the hell are we gonna do, when the Killer goes to the big stage in the sky? I know he will be missed very much. I wish him much love and life.
how fantastic would it be if jerry graced us with an album of standards like this...no strings, no background singers...just his voice and ten fingers. there are a scant few examples from the past (the 'good rockin' tonight' from the sun box set is still in my personal top 5) and it may not be too late. recordings like these have charm and wit not found in his catalogue...thanks for the post.
This is absolutely beautiful...thank you so much for sharing it...i've never ever heard him play like this before...they threw away the mold when he was made!!!
I always thought Jerry sounded best alone at his piano...what a gem of a song, from the man who tosses out gems like confetti.
If you want to hear the greatest artist of the first generation of rock 'n' roll, there's only one man to let through your door...them call him Killer, because he is.
He mentions Jimmy Swaggart. Does everyone know the Killer, Mickey Gilley and SWagart grew up together and chased the same teeny boppers? Gilley said that obly the Killer caught every caught any of them!
