@AgileHProductions That's good, my family was affected a bit, but only economically.
So when do you guys plan to go back for a visit? I plan to visit some of the places you have mentioned, because from some of the videos you posted, a ton has changed since 1997. so I gotta see what's new. ^_^
@AgileHProductions yes weddings seem to be a VERY big deal in japan... I am heading back in Sept for my young brother's wedding. I did want to go back in Oct for the festivals, but if I do go back after September I would probably go to stay and work.
Have you ever thought about living there for a year or so?
@japanfilipino It sounds like a lot of fun, but with two kids I probably won't be doing it anytime soon. For now, it's just a vacation destination. ZAN NEN DESU NE!
Okinawa has a really fascinating history. There's an awesome book about it called "Okinawa; The History of an Island People." I highly recommend it. :)
In 14th century, Three Kingdoms was existed in Okinawa Island.Hokuzan, Chuzan,Nanzan.Historically, we call the Sanzan Period in Japanese.
Sanzan means three mountains in Japanese. In 15th century, Sho Hashi(King of Chuzan) was conquered the other two kingdoms.(in 1416 Hokuzan Kingdom,in 1429 Nanzan Kingdom). He was united the Okinawa Island for the first time, and founded the First Sho's Dynasty. It was the establishment of Ryukyu Kingdom.
thanks so much for posting i'll be visiting in a few days and i really want to visit the shuri castle but have breathing trouble and difficulty climbing many steps :( are there many hills/steps to walk/climb over to tour the castle? also i'm wanting to visit forest adventure as well... what about there? thanks so much again for posting :)
@ElizabethReau I think you can take a cab or drive almost all the way to the top of Shuri, but there is a lot of climbing and walking from some of the entrances. I couldn't tell you which entrance is the good one though. Most of the outdoor hikes I took were hilly, but there is no reason you can't take it slow and enjoy the scenery.
O my god!!!!!!!! at 0:32 that looks almost exactly like the part in the shuri castle level in world at war final fronts where ur under fire from a machine gun on that stairs
It's Okinawa, not Okikawa. What do you mean free from Japan? Last I heard from family, they want to be part of Japan and so got back in the hands of Japan not too long ago. They want the American bases out.
And if they let a monkey like you into their ranks there is a good chance that you will be sent to Okinawa. But judging by the way speak, you'll end up selling your ass to sailors on shore leave for the rest of your life.
Dont say fuck okinawa, you should say fuck the people who sent people to take this place, like the Governments. of US and Japan. what yo daddy or grand pa died in Okinawa?? HAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA tell your widow mother or grandmother to come suck my dick HOLLA!
I WISH YOUR GRANDPA DID DIE IN THAT WAR, if not he better be dyin now. Tell Your Grandpa to commit suicide or somethin, cause that faggot should died already. Just like you should of. Whats Yo moms number? I'm tryna bust a nut on her face tonite.
If you join the marines. you'll likely be sent there. What do know of this place besides what you've read about it's past. After 14 years there,I think it's the best place ever!
You know nothing. Do some research, find out how many Marines are stationed on Okinawa. 3 MEF(3rd Marine Expeditionary Force) is based on Okinawa. Camp Shwab, Camp Hansen, Camp Corteny, Camp Kinser, Camp Foster, Camp Butler, and some are all Marine camps on Okinawa. Oh and there is also MCAS Futenma(Marine Corps Air Station) but, it will most likely be moved to Guam. That's a whole lot of healthy athletic people NOT AT WAR.
im not a physico but i want to fight the enemy and do some REAL service, not go to a place like this. i want to go to the Marines to fight terrorists, or any type of America's enemies, not take a fucking vacation.
Just shut the fuck up. Stupid little girl. Next time you meet a Marine ask them if they were ever stationed on Okinawa, if they were tell them how you feel about them "taking a fucking vacation".
im not one of those 5 year olds who think combat is awesome but i want to be fighting americas wars, i think thats what serving ur country means, not relaxing in a place like this. if that means combat, than i except it
if you want to fight, enlist today, do not hesitate one moment
our country is not in Iraq or Afghanistan to win those wars because we're fighting with one arm tied behind our backs just like in nam and it makes me sick
From the video, I am assuming that they did quite a lot of reconstruction and renovation on site of the castle. The sculptures and wall paints look really new. The site doesn't look like it has gone through WWii.
Yes, the buildings have been completely reconstructed. What makes it interesting is that they have the original drawings, so it is a very accurate reconstruction.
Glad you liked it. Thanks for subscribing to my videos. Beginning next week, you will be able to buy a high-quality DVD of this documentary at my web site StrayCompassDOTcom.
WW2 Peace Memorial, Shuri Castle, Kokusai-Dori (downtown Naha), Ocean Expo Park. Eat Okinawa Soba. Drink Awamori. That should get you started. Have fun. Let me know what you did while you were there.
I love your videos! I used to live on Camp Kinser for about 8 years. I want to go back soo bad! By the way, I think you should do another video on the mongoose. It's also very important to Okinawa...such as the habu. ^^ Thanks so much, your videos are very awesome!
Thanks a lot. I'm in Ohio now, so I am probably stuck with with the footage I have. I have five more episodes to produce - Shikina-en, Tamaudun, Seifa Utaki, Gyokusendo & WW2 Peace Memorial. I would love to do one on the mongoose, but I don't have any footage of the little critters. Maybe I can do that when I go back in 2010. I hope you will tune in for my future episodes.
so has the japan disasters affected your family any?
my family lives in okinawa, I have a house on kudaka, have you been there?
japanfilipino 9 months ago in playlist oki
@japanfilipino They weren't affected too much. The earthquake caused some structural damage to a few homes, but no one was hurt.

We are winning both of those wars thats why it makes me mad that w are pulling out of Iraq.
our casualties in Afghanistan are 600, and Al Quaeda/Taliban are 11,100.
we are winning, and im not old enough or id enlist in the USMC right away and request to go into afghanistan
2WorldWar2 2 years ago
i don't think we're winning or losing either of those wars, i think we're in a stalemate situation
our current and past president have led us down this road of a 100-year war
we're not fighting any one nation, but rather an ideology, and ideas do not die
ever since Vietnam the world knows how to fight, kill, and bog down the American military for a decade or more
