  • you're lucky in canada in america is even worse so many states have no marriage rights benefits

  • And let's not forget the original Degrassi Jr High (late 80's), which featured both gay and lesbian episodes. The gay plot concerned Snake's star athlete brother coming out and the resulting familial rejection. The lesbian story was about a female teacher rumored to be gay. I uploaded the gay episode to Youtube but my account was closed for copyright violation! Both are now available on YouTube.

And of course, there was the groundbreaking kiss between Dylan and Marco in The Next Generation!

  • As bad as things might have seen to you, you were (ARE) lucky to be Canadian. Things are so much more progressive there. My archives has a 1980 CBC show titled, A Moment in Time, which dramatized contemporary issues. An episode, "The Running Man," was about a closeted married track coach who refused to help a gay student, who later killed himself. Unlike US TV productions, it was gritty and very realistic, and even showed a gay porn centerfold (which his wife accidentally discovered).

  • @lgbtTV4 wow, that sounds intriguing. i'd love to see that.

  • @jasonchu82 I'll really have to search for "The Running Man." I lent it to my professor and am not sure if I ever got it back. Io remember writing to the CBC and they said that the show was no longer available. I'll upload the Hollywood Chinese segment later, and email you a link so that you can download the entire show.

Okay, no more posts ... I promise. Both you and I have real work to do!

  • I don't know if you get US news but one of the interesting aspect of Tyler Clementi's suicide is that his tormentors are Indian- and Chinese-American, groups that are stereotypically seen as studious and asexual, and not usually seen in sex/ hate crimes. Both groups are also very concerned with familial reputation, i.e. honor killings and "saving face." Imagine their shame, especially after the news went global. There are so many victims in this stupid tragedy.

  • @lgbtTV4 actually, over here in canada, as much as i don't want to do any disservice to anybody out there, i'm sad to say that indo-canadians have been responsible for several of the recent gay bashings.

  • @lgbtTV4 I meant to write, "Imagine their PARENTS' shame, especially after the news went global." I don't give a damn about the tormentors' shame since it's sweet justice! After all, the webcam stunt was designed to embarrass Tyler, so it's fitting that they are now shamed in front of the world. But their parents are innocent, as far as I know. Like I said, so many victims in this stupid senseless tragedy. But it wasn't in vain; this video project was inspired by his death.

  • Congrats for reaching such a happy place. I did some grad work on gay counseling, with a focus on ethnic/racial minorities, and wish there are more faces and voices like yours in the media (which includes YouTube). I remember how helpless I felt when I had my first gay Chinese AIDS patient. Thankfully, more resources are available now. You might want to rent Hollywood Chinese; there s a segment on Chinese gays in the media. I can upload if you can't find it. Thanks for sharing your story.

  • @lgbtTV4 it'd be great if you could upload the segment! thanks for watching and thank you for the work you're doing! =)

  • you look like my friend. sorry, just had to say it.

  • @surferdudette19 that's weird...i get that a lot...

  • @jasonchu82 hahah ^^ well as long as you don't have a long distance relative from JB, it's probably nothing ..!

  • @kientsch thanks for watching =)

  • Thank you for your terrific video, Jason. I am certain it helps young people to hear stories not different from their own. I wish I had heard similar stories when I was your age ... about 25 years ago! I would have felt a lot less isolated.

  • @bkentackerson thank you! i hope together we can reach out to all the young people who feel alone...

  • All I can say is.. Thank you. It warms my heart whenever I watch these videos.. I am glad for this project!

    :D

    Take Care Stay Well.

  • @Creevie thank you for watching!

  • I got picked on in school too. But everyone does be they gay or straight, its something we kind of just suck up and get over.

  • @kirbienstien thanks for the comment! i don't entirely agree that everyone gets picked on. for most of us who were bullied, we probably got over it, but that doesn't make it acceptable. bullying leaves real and permanent scars. everyone is entitled to a safe learning environment, and no student should have to "suck it up" and put up with bullying.

  • I loved your story, such a great story

I have dated Asian guys, and some say that American guys pre judge Asians. I love Asian guys, They are usually more intelligent. And not so hairy, I don't mind a bear, but I love me some Asian.

  • @scotzone thanks for watching! =)

  • sorry what i meant was like because i know people who experimented and chose i didnt mean to offend you if it did sorry.

  • @DarkZephyr564 no worries...no offense taken at all! thanks for your feedback! =)

  • Thanks for the video I'm a straight woman who has always accepted the gay community and It does get better thank you Jason

  • @yoadriane thanks for your support!

  • That's a fantastic video, Jason. I especially like what you say near the end, that giving up means letting the bigots win.

  • power to the people man personally im heterosexual but i have respect for anyone who chose that other path right not as if its a bad thing but thanks for doing this.

  • @DarkZephyr564 thanks for the comment...however i would like to point out that it wasn't a choice for me to be gay...i knew who i was, and that i was born that way...the only choice i made was how open about it i wanted to be...

  • @jasonchu82 i agree i am straight but, soemtimes i hear about how soem families tell their children that they are confused that is what really dissapoints me being homosexual is nto a choice it's not a illness either it is soemthing your born with.

  • Thanks for sharing!

  • your video is great~~

  • Your video is great.

It's important that you explained that it was hard.

I hope your message will reach many youth especially gay Asian youth.

    Well done

  • @GAMGWMcouple thanks! i hope to see more asian faces on here...

  • Nice. It seemed that your story is more about accepting yourself, rather than others not accepting you. We are our own harshest critics, it's great that you chose to let yourself be happy.

  • @KCMN thanks! i realized this after i posted it...i know it might not be of much help to teens who are being bullied and having a hard time at school, but at least they will get my message that being gay is ok...

  • It does get better. See my video.

  • @dennisreplogle nice video dennis!

  • Excellent video Jason, thanks!

  • @bearnuckle thank you!

  • Great video Jason!

  • @crucializer thank you!

  • This a wonderful video! I hope that many people see this and take strength from your positive message.

  • @sleepsong i hope it will help teens feel less alone...i wish i could've seen videos like the ones on this project when i was younger...

  • Fantastic! Who knows who will watch this and turn towards the fork in the road that will lead to health, self-acceptance, love and happiness?

  • @Tonyvoyager that would really make my day!

  • Great video- you will positively effect so many people with this.

    Best

  • @joyous1100 i really do hope so! thanks for watching!
