Really, the bit I don't like about this song is the electric guitars jumping out of the bush. But you know, I still appreciate it for being a ballsy move.
because of the comercial fail of this game and blue dragon the next game of hironobu will probably be is last game the name of the game is the last story
I have a 360, a PS3, and a Wii so as long as he makes games for any of the major consoles, I'm fine with whichever one. Not sure the wii is the best choice as NoA has issues bringing core games over to the US. He probably chose the system for The Last Story though because Nintendo was willing to fund it. Anyway, it was titled that way because he treated the development of the game AS IF it were going to be his last project. Doesn't mean it is though.
I read Uematsu was inspired by Paul Simon, and I feel this song is heavily influenced by the song 'Duncan' by Paul Simon, has the same nice feel to it
Best rpg this generation. A TRUE piece of japanese art not just a over rated brand name which will remain unnamed thats great days have long since passed.
@Three60Crusader It hurts me how many people didn't play this game. :( I was sketchy at first, but once I started? Man...I was seriously blown away. I agree with you about the best RPG this console gen, amazing game.
I had never really payed much attention to the music in Final Fantasy. I just thought it was great. And that was just the way it was. But, in the recent games I found the music lacking. I then learned that the composer Nobuo Uematsu had left Square, thus explaining the change in music quality.
Some time later I picked up Lost Odyssey, and loved the music, and thought it sounded like what I used to expect from Final Fantasy. Lo and behold, Nobuo Uematsu wrote it.
God Final Fantasy misses this guy! Amazing world map song, just a shame that in the game you never really need to be on the world map long enough to hear the whole track
this track is awesome, its certainly andean inspired.
The instruments played are the pan flute (know in Peru and Bolivia as Quena) and small guitar (charango) those are native from this lands. It transmits the felling of like loneliness tiredness and sadness which match perfectly for the endless journey of an inmortal.
I remember thinking about what I should do next at the world map one day as I was playing through this game the second time. And I remember the guitars coming in. I teared up, because the emotion that had been felt in the flutes had just blown me away with the shear awesome of the lead guitars.
Seriously one of the best world map themes I've ever heard, the transfer between sadness to hopeful redemption in this song doesn't even need to be described, it's heard.
@adrianlm Nonsense, they make the track what it is. A progression from just a simple folk song to the full, epic sound of a truly endless journey, Trust me, Uematsu knows what he's doing ;)
@AnnatarYoung I agree, if the guitar was not there to add a climax to it, the song would become stale and repetitive. Just like any other form of art, music needs contrast to stay interesting. It's just how the human mind works.
.....WOW...I wasn't sure what you were talking about because yes i too never stayed long enough on the world map for the song to get to the best part....now i miss IT!!! DAMN YOU RROD!!!!! RUIN MY GAME!!!!

...The guitar rift sounds a bit like the main theme from Crystal Chronicles for the gamecube. Not the same composer, is it? either way it's awesome

I have Lost Odyssey placed after Final Fantasy XII on the game shelf. To me, it's the "true" FFXIII.

ACtually, this game is supposed to be the real FFXII. Star Ocean 4 and The Last Story are better than FFXIII.

Hearing this the first couple times on my way between locations, I was reminded of FF9's world map bmg.
...But then one day I left the controller to make myself a sammich while still on the world map...
I was like "HOLY CRAP GUITAR RIFF WAT THIS IS AWESOME."
:D Seriously. Nobuo Uematsu is my hero.
