Yes, the MESSENGERS story is very confusing. They had several different incarnations over the span of almost 9 years. The one factor that remained the same was their leader, Greg Jeresek, who both played in the group (bass) as well as produced most of their recordings.

Yes, they were signed to Motown. Their two single releases can be found on "The Complete Motown Singles, Volumes 10 & 11.
