I know! It made me so sad! :( I think it's just the stupid writters. I loved Syelle. I don't think they should've had Sylar kill Elle for no reason but wanting the truth. They were the Bonny and Clyde of Heroes, a dream team. And no more. :(
He killed her cause he decided to be a bad guy, or a monster, again. She was technically the only thing holding him back from that path- she made him feel alright being normal.
Sylar is all about being special, so she became a threat, and he killed her with a bit of regret. He's not out of character at all. He's Sylar; selfish, ambitious, and a little crazy. He's a good villain and people needed a reason to hate him again. Looks like the writers found it, lol.
Sylar killed Elle because she lied to him about Arthur and Angela Petrelli being his parents and because she flinched on the beach when he went to touch her. So he saw - or understood, probably - that she could never really forgive him for killing Bob, her Father.
All I can say is that K.B. is one lucky woman!
