Not to mention the Turbo Diesel Injection (TDI) gives it much more stunning performance than its preceding R8 models. This new, clean diesel is not only silent but much more efficient in terms of MPG (potentially). This car has the capability to slip past others at blinding speeds. If it weren't for the computers that restrict it to roughly 500 HP, it would just about rival the Bugatti Veyron. Seriously.

Get over yourselves. Cars are not all about speed. A great car entails far more. Asthetics, aerodynamics, reliance, overall engineering, etc. Take the Veyron for instance; fastest car in the world but looks like somone took underwear and stretched it over the grill and hood...ugly. Whereas the R8 is beautifully agressive and is just about all the speed you want and need. It's build is very solid as well. Well made.

Except that it is 2-2.5 times times the price of the R8 and the SLS AMG, and gets the same performance, and doesn't look as good IMO. Still a nice car, but I'd sooner pay 150,000 for an Audi(Volkswagen) that does 200 mph rather than 375,000 for a Lexus(Toyota) that does 202mph. I don't know if that 2 miles per hour is worth 175 gs.

No its a V12 TDI. That engine is already available in the Audi Q7. The engine has 6.0Liter cylinder capacity, makes 500 HP and has a enourmous torque of 1000Nm from 1750 up to 3250rpm. The Q7 accelerate in 5,5 seconds and has a topspeed of 250km/h (limited). And thats what tha engine do in a Q7, a 2 ton SUV. In a light Sportcar R8 it would be a kickass!!!!

More torque is not really a good thing, it means you need a bigger heavier gear box. A sports car should have RPM's over torque (unless your American and you are building a hot rot for sound and sentiment).

Diesel cars are not faster, in fact always slow at equal displacement. You need a turbo to make up the difference... what was that about lag?

What I reckon is though, in the front end the allegedly menacing design is applied at the expense of some basic aesthetics. I read the numbers for this Concept when it was orginally released.

And. . . There wasnt much difference between all three R8. V8 Slowest being the slowest overall. But the big V12 was i think something like, 0.2 seconds to 60 slower than the V10 but i think the V12 was faster top end wise at 206mph or something (3/4 boost.) Full boost got it to 225 or something, i cant remember it correctly.
