@dragoninfire123: No, I wouldn't recommend it. I usually use Methyl Alcohol, but sometimes use Denatured Alcohol. I you have the fuel additive HEET (in the yellow bottle) where you live, that is Methyl Alcohol. It is sold at all auto parts store and Walmart sells it as well.
At first it looked like you were just pouring alcohol inside the can and burning it there, and i was a bit confused as to why the alcohol was coming out the jets instead of just burning through the hole at the top.
But then i noticed that your design is a bit different to the others ive seen, instead of having the usual separate pre heater youve built that section right into the middle of the stove and that isnt just a hole in the top of the can. Its two separate chambers. Very neat work!
@FelixTheHouseFreak: I wish I could claim it as my design but it has been around for a long time. I got my directions from a great stove making web site called zenstove(dot)net. Great place, check it out.
Top burners work better with a pot stand. From what I've read they work better if you give them 1.5 to 2" of space. I made a pot stand out of hardware cloth, you can see it in my pressurized alcohol stoves video.
You might try taking a safety pin and putting it down in the hole on the fuel bottle to make it come out faster. You might like it the way it is though. Great Vid. Thanks
I haven't built any alcohol stoves in a while. But you can get step by step directions as well as templates for various parts from a web site called zenstoves. Just Google it. I would leave the link but YouTube does allow to leave a URL in the comments section. Good luck.
I'm not sure what you are referring to as pot holders in this video. On some of the other videos I used hardware cloth as a pot stand. I just wanted to use something cheap and easy to make and find.
Don't try to "RIP" it off. You want to apply downward pressure. If you score the bottom deep enough it acts like a perforated edge. So when you punch a hole in the center of the bottom with the Exacto knife sometimes that alone will begin the score line to break. If it doesn't you can either continue to score the line until it gets deeper or cut from the center to the score line and then CAREFULLY push downward to start the line to break. It takes a little finesse.
I made the stove but it didnt work cuzz My outer wall tared im not so good in english but the flames were so small like an ant!! not normal flames i think i had leakage cuzz of the rip or taar or teer dont know the name
Don't worry, your English is better than my Dutch, :-) Yeah, the inner wall can only have the three half holes. It cannot be torn. Check out Zen Stoves and look under alcohol stoves for "topburner jet stoves" or "side burner jet stoves". They have great step by step instructions with pictures. My first stove didn't connect the piece of metal for the inner wall correctly. It worked but I noticed something was wrong. The stoves I built afterwards worked better once I figured it out.
jeah the ermm stretch tool is not a good idea cuzz i first cut open the welk and then cut the can cuzz if i need to work whit the xacto knife then i need a good grip on the can so i leave it in peace and then cutt then can but the stretch tool needs a closed well you know, so what did u do?
now i have problems stretching the can! i made the alcohol stove sucsesful and it works but i have a major bump cuzz it didnt fit good! now its kinda not straight so now if i put a frying pan the oil goes to one side! i realy need some help whit stretching it
You need to make a dilator can. Take a full can and scrub off the paint with an SOS pad until it's shiny. Then empty the can and cut it to 45mm from the bottom. Drill a 4mm hole in the center of the bottom. Now take a full can and carefully slide it into the 45mm can. The hole on the bottom will allow pressure relief. Push down evenly until you can see the bottom of the full can in the hole of the shiny can. Now you have your dilator.
very nice personally i like the side burner better but there both good, but i have one question... y does it take a while for the flames to come out of the jets?
The side jets don't go all the way through to the center. There is an inner wall that creates the fuel chamber and it has 3 holes that run along the bottom. When the stove heats up it creates vapors and that is what actually fuels the jets. Google Zen Stoves and look at how the "jet stoves" are constructed. It will help you understand. Thanks
I did too at first. I take a really sharp Exacto knife and scribe around the bottom slowly. It's time consuming and tedious. Once you get a nice deep score line you can then take the Exacto knife and punch a hole in the center. If you have to, cut up close to the score line and then push with your fingers and the score line will rip off cleanly if you have it deep enough. Good luck
You can make them from any soda can. I just happened to have diet Coke on hand at the time. Google Zen Stoves. Zen Stoves has directions to built many types of stoves. I just liked the soda can alcohol stove the best. Have fun.
how about a comparing the two with equal amounts of alcohol and judge them on time of burn and time it takes to boil water? This was a good demo of both types of stoves.
I thought about doing that, comparing boiling time, but wanted to keep this video simple. I'd like to brush up on my editing before I do that so the video doesn't end up being too long. Thanks for the advice.

Nice
A side burning stove does not need a pot
stand. It is it's own pot stand.
2kargarage1 6 months ago
@2kargarage1 what about the air needed for the flame in the first place? Wouldn't it "starve" if you had a pot siting on the top hole?
