Great--I'm totally into the stuff you're doing. One guitar-playing note--John Hurt seemed to hook his thumb over the low E string at the first fret to get a low-bass F note for his rhythm when playing in the key of C. Do you ever do that? Just wondered--took me a while to figure this out..
This would be real solid if you gave a shit about the song. Seems like you could care less about what it's saying. Some real talent poked its head out a couple times though. Props, I guess.
Ya Jay Musseato, and how do you know where she's from? She doesn't seem like the suburban type to me; and she's certainly no chick but a fully grown women, and you should shore up your attitude maybe a little guy. The last women I heard do this great music was Didi Palazoa years ago. I love this lady's music; so competent and cool. Keep pickin those country blues, whatever your name is. bbbboB
Excellent cover, strong playing! The few negative comments from (I assume) non-players baffle me: Possibly inspired by something going wrong in their lives. Reason I assume these are non-players: A player knows what is required to achieve the high skill level we hear here :)
I don't understand the hate. Obviously it doesn't have the same emotion and no one can play it like the original but you have to admit she has talent and this is a nice version.
What drives me crazy are these people who have to say, "that's not the way it goes" or some other dumb comment.Well your not John Hurt but you took that tune and made it your own.Damn good for you.Your what is called Original Talent.
i love the look on her face at 1:58. she holds it for a good while, totally dispassionate. i love this girl. great picking. i tried to learn a variation of this called "Ain't No Tellin", but i wasn't as good as this pretty gal!!!
I would love to hear you sing and play, Frisco Town, by Memphis Minnie.
Its so refreshing to hear a young lady thats so outstanding in the blues. You are an excellant guitarist and I love your voice. I think you are out there on your own. To be honest the novelty is worth a great deal on its own. I wish you luck for the future, might be hearing a lot more from you.
Excellent guitar playing. I don't understand why she changes the vocal melody from John Hurt's. I guess that's artistic license but I'm a traditionalist and I like singing the same melody as John Hurt.
um....if your only reference to the blues is SRV or Eric Clapton, then no. But if you could ask them who their influences were, this type of music would come up.
those light gauge strings? the E7 should crush the the c before it. and remember each verse pauses fo a 2/4 beat of c7th--thats what makes the song somehow.
I'm sixty and grew up on John Hurt. It is reassuring to me that someone so young, would have such obvious reverence for the his music. John lives on. YES!!
I for one feel like my day is going to better having listened to you this morning. As far as all the comments I've read here, take the honest, encouraging, and positive one's - tuck them away somewhere nice, and let the others bounce off your windshield - like a June bug - well... In June.
Great guitar and singing .. If you are ever in Connecticut stop by my pottery in Litchfield and we can play some . Great to hear young people jumping in .. Great !! All the best , Guy Wolff
Very nice but sorry doesn't sound like blues. Actually few people can really sound like the original blueswhen they sing. Still wonderful job, you did your best ( :
I think you have a strong voice - and you sing without fake sentimentality... so I wonder, could you do a strong Leadbelly song - or something he covered?
Love your singing, and your playing is just great. Have the technique and a few fingerstyle tunes myself, but have yet to perfect the fingerstyle playing and singing.
You have it down to a tee and sound wonderful, thanks for posting.

I heard this the first time as I learned tolay guitar. The owner said "If you learn these songs, you can teach me"
Years later, I became homeless. But I worked everyday....lived in an abondonded warehouse.
I always thought of this song as I would lay on the floor to sleep.
The next day, at work no one knew I had no bathroom or shower.
It was something so simple then. A place to lay down safe, that I loved. Anyway...

This seems to me closer to Doc Watson's treatment of this tune than to Mississippi John's.
I think this was the right choice: your voice has a plaintive Country wistfulness.
I think it is a definitive version.
