I voted, by not buying a fucking Cell Phone - Rip off
Forcing me to pay $500 + dollars for a friggin stupid phone then offer me lousy cell phone plans or accept the 2-3 year contract an get ripped by the same lousy cell phone plans
and here we are 2 years later and Canadians are paying more than ever for their cell phone plans and overages. Fortunately there is some light at the end of the tunnel, as more, New wireless providers emerging and offering better plans for lower price. We are still light-years behind Europe and still paying about 35% more than Americans.
The iPhone youve purchased is a smart phone. It means that it pick up internet even if it is not used, and then you pay thousands dollars to Fido. The customer service people are not too nice other. They are very hard to deal with, and it is impossible to prove that iPhone making very expensive mistakes, the mistakes you have to pay for!
And nobody in BC can protect your rights as a consumer.
I still can't believe people in Canada still would wait in the line to get ripped off by the most expensive, ridicules prices and rules in the world getting in the line to get ripped off for three years just imagine there is absolutely no excuse for criminals in rogers to high jack peoples pocket like that but I blame the government too. not just the people sure people are not doing much about it. lets stand up and kneel rogers down to a reasonable rates that Canadians deserve for a while
...you get when you allow that much regulation. In a (truly) free market, the market adjusts to what the consumer will tolerate. So canadians get to deal with abusive practices that do not fly in other countries. Meanwhile, in the united states, with four truly national carriers, and numerous other small regional cell providers, we pay very little. We also pay less for cable, satellite and internet. and oh yeah, gym memberships and other so called... (continued)
case in point last night when an uncle in lethbridge told me he had to PAY for an interactive satellite programming guide.
This is going to anger alot of my fellow canadians (yes, i was born in Calgary ok?) when i tell you that this ABUSE you face is the direct result of allowing your government to regulate you to such an extreme extent. The cell phone industry is not the only culprit. You pay more for nearly everything such as petrol, electric, gas. This is what (continued)
Ok... I live in the states now and i can tell you that canada mistreats people when it comes down to cellular service. Heck, in the united states you can purchase a $100 cell phone and get UNLIMITED TALK TEXT AND MMS SERVICE for about $40 a month.
It never ceases to amaze me how in canada people pay far far too much for services. this is because there is far less competition and far more government regulation on the telecom industry in canada... (continued)
1.A cellphone is a luxury itself, if you think it's expensive, don't get one.. if you want to make a salad and lettuce is 4$ do you really have to have salad today ?
2.North American wireless companies take you guys for a ride (im a canadian myself) merely because you guys are easily seduced.. you don't have to be on a contract and ever face a 400$ cancellation think about it.Rogers and Telus and Bell etc offer you a subsidised cost of the phone based on the contract,if you think they're still pricy or that 3 year contracts are lengthy, don't be on one, simply buy your own cellphone and get a month to month plan.
.. I don't hear anyone complaining about prices of tvs or dvd players.. if you want the convinience and not the headache.. pay up at first and no one is forcing you to be on a contract. Those companies are profitable businesses and ofcourse they want you to sign terms and pay and all that jazz.. they never grab you in a choke hold till you sign the contract
3.The iphone is a luxury of a luxury.. there are so many phones out there that have way better functionality than the iphone.. who cares if it's a touch screen.. Don't get me wrong I think it's a great phone, but remember how many generations of ipods apple had to make to eventually get it right.. I used to work at an electronics store and the most returned to vendor for repair item was the ipod
4.If cost is a huge difference maker don't rush in: we all saw what happened to HD DVD .. people went out and paid hundreds for the technology and very soon it will be completely useless.. now im not saying that will happen with the iphone.. however the tech is still relatively new.. the first gen iphone is an awesome portable media player but a crappy cellphone.. sound quality isnt good, and sending a text or email is so annoying
WHO HAS TIME DO USE ALL THAT STUFF ?????? besides.. that's not very bad considering all you're getting.. but again.. you don't have to get that stuff because I can garuntee that there isnt a canadian out there that's able to utilize all that stuff AND have time to go to work/school + use the iphone to listen to music and watch videos and have a gf/bf and go out for a pint once in a while and/or socialize.. its physically impossible
I just checked with Rogers and they are charging $ 584.92 for Iphone 3g with 3 year contract. This is so outrageous. And then you have to pay 30 dollars for data plan with system access fees, 911 charge and other bs. Rogers should go out of business and they deserve it big time. Hate Rogers for life
People are simply like SHEEP...Blind and stupid, to be taken for ride any-time & any-where ... Ted Rogers is now laughing and we Canadians are in square one again ... Instead to show our unity and stay side by side in our demand we fail since there is always number of those who will spoil the case ... No idea who sad that, but we are like a Dancer with a wooden leg trying to win tango contest ! Greed is an awful piece of character real estate and that is what many of us did show. Sad, very sad
150 minutes VOICE ONLY = $30 plus $6.95 s/a fee = $37.00 per month - ohhh, don't forget the Activation Fee & the 911 access fee (whatever they are). All this just to be allowed to talk for 4 minutes per day?? So now ya want to access the internet eh? Add $30 bringing the total to $67 plus tax...will that be your arm, leg or first born? What's worse is that kids will buy this phone who don't understand the value of a dollar. This toy will no longer be a novelty in about 1 week.
....see what I'm saying, dude. When you start saying shit like "It's only $20 or $30..." - you are deliberately excluding all the other fees that Rogers adds. Why WOULDN'T you include those fees? You guys jerk me around when I talk to you and you jerk us around on Youtube. STOP THE FUCKNG BS, FUCKER.
yep - we get SCREWED in Canada. Richard Branson has been bitching about this for years...which is why he brought Virgin here - tried to make the Canadian market competitive with pricing. I will say that they've done a decent job with youtube/rogers picnic stuff though - their ads are pretty funny.
Yeah but the thing is that Virgin is aimed at the other end of the market. Cheap phones/low cost plans for occasional users, teens and people on a budget. And even Virgin has upped their rates since they have come over here. We need companies that will directly compete with Rogers for the same market. Tech and enterprise users, cellphone junkies and the high end market.
It states on their website that if you choose not to go on a plan then you will be charged a certain rate. So I dont care what a rep says tell them to check on their own website for heavens sakes.
Rogers Robbers, same thing. Hopefully this will work. Im tired of being burned by them. There reps lie and give so many different plans to different people. So much discrimination goes on. There price plans stink. Canada is SO behind with this. Robbers greed has slowly but surely gotten worse and finally its come to a head.
iphone = "i-can't-do-arithmetic" Only 20 something morons that lust after the thing will buy it. Thier mommies will have to bail them out of their $300/mo phone bills.
I see MAJOR buyers remorse for ANYONE buying one these things with the Rogers plan.
As I have always said the issue is not cost of the phone but the cost of owning it. We, Canadians were petitioning for it to come up here but we should have been petitioning for fair pricing.
Yeah to smaller competitors. CRTC is allowing market entry to small wireless outlets. Not companies like T-Mobile, Verizon or O2 that have money to implement invest in setting up a 3G network and other larger scale services. And thereby be real competitors to Bell, Telus or Rogers.
It's like mom and pop shops vs. expensive Walwart
Actually you are not entirely correct. The Rogers has to share their own cell towers at a discounted rate until the competition grows enough to establish itself. It will take awhile but the gov't warned Rogers that if they were to become unreasonable on the lease arrangements that they will step in and regulate it again. Rogers has no choice but to share the GSM spectrum or the age of derugulation will come to an abrupt end.
In the Fall...it's gonna utilize the Rogers network & Rogers MUST lease it to them @ a substantially discounted cost until they establish their own towers - OR ELSE. The ELSE part is that Rogers will become re-regulated again and must obtain permission from the CRTC to do a #2 in the toilet. I think Quebecor is the big company and everybody will be ditching rogers and telus. BTW telus bribed me $8 per month to go to them & ditch Rogers...cost of last 2 years of contract is unknown. LOL
You guys are stupid. I work for rogers, you can take ANY PLAN with the iphone, there are recomended iphone plans the 60$ plan includes 400megs of data and 150 mins. The thing is if you want to use everything the iphone can do you have to get a data plan. You go through so much data with the IPhone that its stupid, with youtube and direct internet with the touch of a button. But you DONT NEED A DATA PLAN. You can get the 20$ a month voice plan and still get an iphone. GET YOUR FACTS STRIGHT!!!
lol i know i ran out of room for words. Sorry if the post was angry but Im tired of people thinking you can only get the iphone on a 60$ plan. You dont have too, and if people at rogers are telling you you do dont listen, im telling you from a sales person who works there that you dont have to get a data plan, its good to get one if your going to use it for going on the internet and stuff, but just as a phone and ipod use you can keep your current plan
You stated that data isn't necessary for an iPhone. It's not necessary to USE an iPhone, but Rogers isn't selling iPhones UNLESS you add a $30 data plan to your existing voice plan, or else go with one of their "value" packages. I heard this first hand from a Rogers Wireless manager.
You may work for Rogers, but your information isn't 100% correct.
I am so happy that I got my ver 1.0, months ago. I can't believe Rogers is twisting peoples arms like this. I guess it's our own fault, we Canadians just rollover and take it. CRTC should have been pulled up and called out years ago.
That is true, and has been confirmed from one of Rogers' CSRs. The problem is still that the available plans are stupidly expensive, and there isn't even the option for unlimited data at any cost.
While you make a good point, there is a serious flaw in the way you make it. You open with the statement that "thousands of people can't be wrong", which is a textbook example of the fallacy appeal to popularity. Consider that at one point the entire populace of Earth believed that it was flat -- does that mean the world was flat during the time that it was popularly believed to be? How widely a belief is held has no bearing on its truth. Please try to make your case without invalid reasoning.
If you know it to be true, why would you call it pseudo-intellectualism? The prefix "pseudo-" means false, after all. I'm not trying to fool anyone; I have no need or desire to do so. I am trying to explain that genuinely intellectual people will be more apt to take you seriously if your point is made in a logically valid manner. Or is there no value to using sound reasoning when trying to persuade people?
BOYCOTT IPHONE IN CANADA not because of iphone but because of rogers
there are another alternitves to the iphone, TELUS is getting the DIAMOND PHONE and bell is getting the INSTINCT which are pretty close to what the iphone offers but without the arm and a leg contract ;)
I wish you guys the best of luck. Don't get suckered like my fellow Americans did. That iphone might be pretty but it has no features. No mms, no video capture, no visual voice mail, no bluetooth file transfer, you cant even use stereo bt headphones! I know its pretty but so is a blue coral snake. I would advise staying away from both.
I don't want to offend you, but just look at the specifications. I just checked again to make sure, I just want to help but don't believe me, check it out for yourself.
Forced to accept? Uh, last I checked nobody is making you buy an iphone... heck, I just got a brand new phone for under $40, which is about the same as my monthly rate. I'm not "forced" to pay more for a stupid iphone. Course even if it were free I still wouldn't get one.

LOL... Canadians are bloody blind. Canadians in general deserve the high price gauging from monopoly from Rogers, Bell, etc... It is the way Canadians vote, over whelmingly to the leftist socialist commies. Even the conservative party in Canada are moderates, simply due to hate that Canadians have for the superior American open market. Canada should learn something about "True Capitalism", otherwise, stop whining about high prices.
Thanks to "Canadian Identity protectionism" BS, socialistic regulations made Bell canada the only telephone company and ripped everyone off. It is a lot more free today, but not nearly as free as the market in the USA. I'm rich, I don't care, but it gives me joy whenever I see canadians suffer because of their unwillingness to change to a better system, like privatized health care also.
how is privatized healhcare better for the poor? you are rich, we heard. but privatized health care is opposite to equal treatment of all humans, rich or poor. and Canada is all about human rights
Socialized health care has nothing to do with human rights. Deregulation & free capitalism to empower people is the best human right there is.
Apparently your definition of human right is okay as long as it benefits the leftist social communism agenda. I say about 20 million + people in Iraq just got a whole lot of human rights thanks to USA.
Good video/great message. Been following that petition for weeks now. As a note.. the video description says "Apple 3 gig I-phone" .... You might want to update that so it is actually talking about the right product.
It's the 'Apple iPhone 3G', and 3G is refering to the wireless technology, not 3Gig as in the file size..
Haha, well played. What I meant to say was that I have been following what lead up to the petition. There have been reports of "potential" pricing for the iPhone popping up here and there since it was announced.

Food for thought:
In the united states, i will buy an iphone with a $150 a month plan to give me the following:
a) UNLIMITED talk/visiaul voicemail
b) UNLIMITED text messaging (send/receive)
c) UNLIMITED data...
yes, $150 a month. I can buy my wife a prepaid cell on ATT and pay $1/day to talk unlimited between the two lines.
That is free enterprize. I hope you can all change the abusive ways in canada.. you really do deserve better up there!

Consider that at one point the entire populace of Earth believed that it was flat -- does that mean the world was flat during the time that it was popularly believed to be? How widely a belief is held has no bearing on its truth. Please try to make your case without invalid reasoning.
SuugakuKyoushi 3 years ago
Oh stuff it, we all know that to be true but your psudo-intellectualism isn't fooling anyone.
Telekenesis123 3 years ago
If you know it to be true, why would you call it pseudo-intellectualism? The prefix "pseudo-" means false, after all. I'm not trying to fool anyone; I have no need or desire to do so. I am trying to explain that genuinely intellectual people will be more apt to take you seriously if your point is made in a logically valid manner. Or is there no value to using sound reasoning when trying to persuade people?

Canadians DESERVE better rate plans!!!!!!!!!!
MrTechnoGuy 3 years ago 7
We deserve better rate plans but we never do what is required to get fair pricing. It calls for us demanding more large scale competition.

Ahaha did she really start her argument with "lots of people cannot possibly be wrong"?
You're going to need better rethoric if you're trying to reason with a multibillion dollar company.

Okay, how about "Lots of people, who aren't wrong, aren't going to give you money unless you change what you're doing."

I thought you called it the 3 GIG iPhone!
ruffdeezy 3 years ago
I wish you guys the best of luck. Don't get suckered like my fellow Americans did. That iphone might be pretty but it has no features. No mms, no video capture, no visual voice mail, no bluetooth file transfer, you cant even use stereo bt headphones! I know its pretty but so is a blue coral snake. I would advise staying away from both.
Good luck again.
panzer4u 3 years ago 2
umm yea...it does have visual voicemail...
blackdogs377 3 years ago 2
I don't want to offend you, but just look at the specifications. I just checked again to make sure, I just want to help but don't believe me, check it out for yourself.
panzer4u 3 years ago
Forced to accept? Uh, last I checked nobody is making you buy an iphone... heck, I just got a brand new phone for under $40, which is about the same as my monthly rate. I'm not "forced" to pay more for a stupid iphone. Course even if it were free I still wouldn't get one.

agreed, everyone must sign up for the wealth of humanity!
rainhk12 3 years ago
solution: forget the iphone altogether, and get a different phone on a better network or a 7-11 speakout pay-as-you-go.

Canada should learn something about "True Capitalism", otherwise, stop whining about high prices.
justingarak 3 years ago
where does socialism or capitalism factor into a free market available telephone?
this could be one of the most ignorant uninformed responses i've ever read.
r3s3t063 3 years ago
Would it be possible for you to be a bigger tool justingarak?
commandertim 3 years ago
Your first line was ignorant itself.
Thanks to "Canadian Identity protectionism" BS, socialistic regulations made Bell canada the only telephone company and ripped everyone off. It is a lot more free today, but not nearly as free as the market in the USA. I'm rich, I don't care, but it gives me joy whenever I see canadians suffer because of their unwillingness to change to a better system, like privatized health care also.
justingarak 3 years ago
how is privatized healhcare better for the poor? you are rich, we heard. but privatized health care is opposite to equal treatment of all humans, rich or poor. and Canada is all about human rights
Lastofthemiddleclass 3 years ago 2
Socialized health care has nothing to do with human rights. Deregulation & free capitalism to empower people is the best human right there is.
Apparently your definition of human right is okay as long as it benefits the leftist social communism agenda. I say about 20 million + people in Iraq just got a whole lot of human rights thanks to USA.
justingarak 3 years ago
?? equal health care for all regardless of social status has nothing to do with human rights?? explain this to me

Good video/great message. Been following that petition for weeks now. As a note.. the video description says "Apple 3 gig I-phone" .... You might want to update that so it is actually talking about the right product.
It's the 'Apple iPhone 3G', and 3G is refering to the wireless technology, not 3Gig as in the file size..
majred 3 years ago
interesting, since the petition only began last week.
blackdogs377 3 years ago
Haha.

Haha, well played. What I meant to say was that I have been following what lead up to the petition. There have been reports of "potential" pricing for the iPhone popping up here and there since it was announced.
