It's amazing: certain TV shows get their season box sets to come out the day after their season ends; whereas DVD sets of videos like these NEVER show up!
This one is even MORE educational today, not only does it teach us about squares, it also shows us what you could get away with wearing in the 80s, lol. Cool song
Oh, 280zman, I nearly forgot. You were asking what an album cover was. Well, back when music was available on vinyl record albums (and I doubt that they still are), the records came in square-shaped cardboard sleeves. I think that's what Cris meant by album covers, but I could be wrong.
I think Cristobal Franco gives the saying "Hip to be Square" a whole different meaning in this video. I'll bet though if Mario Cippolina, Johnny Colla, Bill Gibson, Chris Hayes, Sean Hopper and Huey Lewis saw this, they'd think, "I know we said it's hip to be square, but this is ridiculous."
Yeah, I agree. There used to be a sit-com called "Square Pegs." I'm told that Sarah Jessica Parker played a character who was very plain compared to the kind of characters she plays nowadays.
I wonder why this one got a disclaimer. Angle Dance definitely deserved one but this one doesn't seem that disturbing to me. Hey I just noticed that 00:50 is in the opening of the show...
@tiradorfranco2 Those "disclaimers" are just jokes (but funny ones!). They're trying to emphasize that these videos are rated CG for "child guidance" or something - i.e. that learning is fun but don't tell the kids or something. (shrug)
Unless you lived in the 80s, you'll probably think this is one of the lamest things ever. It's very much of that time, let's say.

The blockhead scenes at the beginning & end: Where have I seen that before? I'm thinking of a Thomas Dolby video (but forget which)!

this is a part of the 80s I blocked out. Not Square1 TV, but the clothes like that and the early days of rap music. Like, gag me!

Damn YouTube compression, now the video is ruined, the &fmt=18 doesn't work anymore to fix it. And I like this video, Cris Franco rules!
vampeal7 3 years ago
Never mind, they fixed it, I hope.

"Listen up, all you square pants" - is he singing about SpongeBob?
88HJS 4 years ago
:) This is long before SpongeBob. I think he says "square pegs".

Did anyone hear Cynthia do voiceover work for a shampoo commercial a few years back? When I heard her voice just know I remembered.

just "NOW"...

I always thought this was one of the worst videos ever on this show. The only redeeming quality was Luisa Leschin in a miniskirt.
JoelsHitShow 4 years ago
Yes, I don't think it's outstanding in any way.

Don't overlook Beverly Mickins. She's wearing a miniskirt, too, you know.
