I didn't find this fight too hard. I kept up my stamina, removed darts as they hit me, and I even got The End's Camo AND Rifle. I did forget his parrot though....

Just a hint: Thermal Goggles let you see his footprints in most cases, letting you chase him when he runs off.

I just beat him for the first time on the HD collection :) I was really scared of this battle at first. I heard many things about it. But it really wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. I was very cautious and tree hugged alot!  Very nice boss battle. Love this game, so far.

First time playin this thro it took me like an hour and a half to beat this guy.... then 2nd time thro it seemed like i was headin down the same path after an hour.. so i saved it and kinda got over it for like 2 months.. went to play it again and he died when i loaded the game, then looked on the net and there was some cheat that if you quit then changed the clock on ur ps2, then loaded it again he would die of old age... was key to gettin his gun or camo or somethin.. ahaha was awsome.

The End is easy all you do is equip the ap sensor, this makes a beeping noise when you are near him, use the moss camo if you have it which gives you 100% camo and then crawl up on him as you enter his area look on the map and those circles are his sniping spots then use spirit camo (The Sorrow's camo outfit) as this quietens your footsteps and the end can't hear you while you're sneaking up on him also I use the Mark 22 tranq gun to kill him.

@simonistic well for me The End is easy because I've just completed Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater on extreme difficulty and I can sneak up on The End with ease. It took me less than 5 minutes to beat The End. I killed him with my Mrk 22 tranq gun and drained his stamina and got his 100% Moss Camo and Mosin Nagant Sniper Rifle from him on extreme difficulty. I've done this boss so many times I know all the areas he is waiting in.

@simonistic yes I know you get the Moss camo from The End. So don't call me a dumbass. I've completed MGS 3 Snake Eater on the extreme difficulty with no alerts, no kills, no continues and no life medicine used and I just used the leaf camo. I got all the weapons including, The Patriot, The Mosin Nagant and Single Action Army. I got all the camo uniforms including The Pain's, The Fear's, The End's, The Fury's Colonel Volgins camo's & The Boss's sneaking suit. Also I got Stealth camo.

What makes this such a great boss battle is the fact that you're in a forest going up against a very strong marksman who can track just about every move you make.. the atmosphere is great. chirping off the birds.. the fact that the battle is long and grueling.. The End sometimes dozes off. this is just awesome. and not to mention a boss that doesn't kill lethally and offers another chance like no other in the history of Metal Gear solid games.

Anyway, the after-battle motions were the best in MGS1, and never reached that level in the other chapters. (I just mention the death of Sniper Wolf in mgs1, if any of you remembers...)

@darkhedgehog45678 I had terminated THE END without being shot many times.The short times to beat him down is about 18 mins.Using your items well is very important.Searching him with DIRECTIONAL MIC,THERMAL GOGGLES and ANTI-PERSONNEL SENSOR.Besides SVD,you can use XM16E1 with SP to aim him.(Thermal goggles on will be better.) The reflecting of scope on SVD will show your position to him.Share what I learned to you.Hope this will help you to get more fun beating him.Ha...
