@jlcanterbury It's a 5 horsepower briggs and stratton 4 stroke but it's 50 feet away and just on idle. We're just a few feet in height above the river so the pump doesn't have to work very hard. You can hear it putting away in the video if you turn up the sound a bit! :)
It was just a rock. Any area will have it's share of interesting rocks or minerals, you just have to learn what to look for. Some of the coolest rocks/minerals out there won't be very interesting in their natural form but once you learn what to look for you can find treasures other than gold.
On this claim there's some interesting blue quartz chunks as well as small garnets.
A LOT of black sand as well which makes the fine gold recovery challenging.
I have a tool that creates very high vacuum underwater, much higher than any small dredge now being used to look for Placer Gold, I am looking to talk to someone with experience in this area. You can see the tool if you do a search for "Barton abrasive removal tool" where you will see it being used to vacuum fine solids (garnet and expended media) from water filled tanks. email if interested placergolddredge@yahoo.com
what kind of pump were you using? i don't hear any motor going but you have good flow...

The reason my brother was 'high grading' was to collect cool rocks for his daughter.
