I can only say what I THINK to be right. I think that many of the food stores in Arthur ave are run by Albanians. Yes, they all look Italian, but a lot of the Italians from that area have left to live in the suburbs. Now, I could be wrong here, if I am, please excuse my ignorance.Viva Italia!......
And, the italian gentleman is right!....in the very biginning, all the fruit/fish carts were actually in THE STREET!....how do I know?....I recall seeing them, I'm 80 years old, and my Sicilian parents would always shop there. It was simply the very BEST place to shop for Italian food!..
It was Mayor Laguardia who improved on a good thing by building an INDOOR MARKET for all those cart food vendors to do business in. So, in bad weather, the indoor market was then available to all .

Dont let these illegal mexicans take over our little italy's in America it has happened already in south philly dont let it happen in your city and let them take your culture away
It's too bad they killed this area, i remember it when the oldtimers would sit outside on the sidewalks to the wee hours talking and drinkin home made wine. when in the mornings all you would smell is bakeing bread from all the bakeries. When the guys would all try to top eachother with the newest IROCS. Now its a shithole tuorist trap. we had to leave, too many people representin
@alessia118 The same people who care more about a monthly cheack than gaining any respect for themselves by getting a job. The same people who mugged an old lady on the steps of Mt. Carmel Church. The same assholes who made it unsafe for people to go out in the night and not get bothered or mugged or bothered for loose change. the same motherfuckers who destroy their own homes and make it unliveable for anybody else!!! NEED I SAY MORE???
@toesboy13 oh god...well im Italian and i'm disgusted by those evenements...i thought it was still a wanderful quarter in which to live... u r so damn right to say that then...i've even heard that it ha became a second china town as they buied almost everything there..
@alessia118 so am i, I grew up on grote and moved to cambrleng ave. lived there almost all my life. i think i know you. dose your grandmother live in kelly towers??
@alessia118 no of course not, but there are better places in the Bronx to live and countless place to see and do things here in NYC. If you ever visit NY do yourself a favor. Stay away from most of the tuorist traps, they waist to much time and they don't reveal the true flavor of NYC. You must experience this city like a native not like a tourist, NY has a lot to offer, if you can't find it here it dosen't exist
