  • I suppose this can create a nice effect ONLY if you use the same track on 2 CD players, but if you wanna do that just use an echo effect on a mixer ?

Try this with 2 different tracks and it will sound horrendous

  • i blame methamphetamines

  • @forty286 sponsed <3

  • Clevererer lol

  • if he works as match as he talks it would be a great tutorial

  • you have a crazy way of speeding up your track not using the platter did you used to use belt drives by any chance? old skool style u have there.

  • @domisking I started with Belt Drives, he mentioned that in one of his old vids :)

  • show off, lol nice work

  • why dont you do it with pioneer equio.. ? :D you should be a very rich man right ?

  • sounds like shit brother

  • @andrew7723 i was just going to say the same thing, when does any1 try this shit infront of a audience. and the mixer has echo so whats the point.

  • heey bro i would lyk to do a utorial on the radius 3000..!!!i am actually planig to buy.so plz do give ur feedbk hw is it..!!thanks

  • How does this guy always have different gear in like every vid???

  • @forty286

Companys pay him to show people how to use there shit.

  • Hiya,

where did you get the skin/sticker thing for you djm800? cant find anything on the interwebs! cheers

  • BPM= Beats per minute

Track 1 and 2 has the same length lets say 5 minutes

    Track 1: 120 BPM*(times)5(min) endresult is: 600 total beats

    Track 2: 130 BPM*(times)5(min)= endresult is:650 total beats

Therefore they wont end at the same time = Unbeat

Use math and your brain ^^

  • @WerewolfSlayer91 Wait lol... You can't say both tracks won't end at the same time when you just said both tracks have the same length. (5 minutes). BPM is the number of beats in a one minutes period which isn't talking about total track length. A track with a high BPM number will just have more beats in the same time period as another track with a lower BPM number. =]

  • @feedyourspeakers lol haha. Man i must have been tired when i wrote this. But what i think i ment to say was that if u now have two tracks at 5 minutes. Then when you gonna match the beats they will not have the same time frame. Because of their total beats. If you speed the up track with the lower BPM up to the one with higher BPM it will end faster. 600(track with a normal BPM; 120) devided by 130 = it will last 4,61 min

  • When I have 2 different tracks ... I move the tempo from one and it beat matches but gets unbeat >< any suggestions?

  • @Jorgepwnmode It just means that your BPM's are close but still not exact. If one track is 130bpm and the other is 130.5bpm they can be in sync for a bit...but then will drift off.

  • Don't take this as an ignorant comment, but what's wrong with just using the sync button if you are using say for Example Virtual DJ.

  • @818silencer818 f

It's just cheap and you' aren't doing any effort of mixing at all ,in addition it doesn't make sense to call yourself a dj without doing any proper beatmatching........ Even though it sounds good , it still just like cheating on yourself and your audience.... I mean nobody cares if you do it for fun or so...

    no offence bro....

  • @CptFrenchfries Yeah I understand, but what if you just "DJ" like in weddings and parties, the audience doesn't really care about complex mixes and beat matching, all they want to do is dance.

  • @818silencer818

Well if it's for little events where people don't care it's no problem.

Only if you want to mix in a club you gotta mix&beatmatch properly and not using any sync-buttons ^^

  • I gotta say its cool to teach beat matching but with modern gear I think its ok to just use your eyes and focus more on more complex mixes but thats just my philosophy. Lots of auditory snobs think you need to use your ears but why? the audience doesnt give a f@@k

  • @srekal88 have a bit of respect, he makes really useful videos...

  • i am ordatory ( i learn better through hearing things so this almost comes naturally to me

  • I really need a controller for my djing

    so i can do this

  • aw man u got sum baire beatz ! keeep bringhin dem t00nz bad boii!

  • u talk to much dude!

  • @silot1 shut the fuck up

  • @silot1 if you don't like him chatiing and explaining stuff you should NOT be watching these video's

  • @silot1 no... YOU talk to much. shut up and learn to listen to the sound of respect holmes

  • @silot1 yeah.. seriously shut the fuck up.

  • 3:05...more claverrrrrra...:))

  • Cleveererre?

  • But how can you know from the start which song is faster or slower?

  • @Njamimars PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE holy shit, I'm tired of this but if I want to be good at it I have to ,PRACTICE,,PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE

  • @Jchot What u been using?

  • @Njamimars One stanton str8-80 (I think) an old roland mixer with a broken crossfader, a mostly working technic 1200 (stroke of luck how I got it) and traktor scratch duo which is only 150 dollars at b&hphoto (dot com)

listen to one song in one ear (via cue head phones) and use the other ear to hear the song playing out loud.

  • @Jchot Thanks mate, I am practicing alot these days, most likely I am going to spin at parties.

  • 3:06 cleverererererar xDD

  • cleverererer

  • I don't understand how doing this would help me.

  • nice cup !!! :)

  • but how do u know if its the right or left cd players beat going faster or slower

  • @djkostat

usually the CDJ has an indicator at the top there shows the current tracks bpm.

When you get good enough, you are almost able to gues the bpm rate by just listening :)

  • @djkostat try listening to the fucking tune ..its not rocket science ... and you have the audacity to call yourself DJ Kostat !!!!!!!! ...maybe you should just go back to being Kostat and when you learn the basics of DJ'ing you can refer back to being DJ Kostat

  • @djkostat you're an asshole. :D dj kostat, why are you calling yourself dj? :D

  • cleverererererer

  • Man your a mine of solution for dummies ! really u rock !

  • What's the first thing a beginer should try practicing?

  • @TonyYnot8624

depends normally most would say beatmatching, though i've myself began practicing when to use effects and such.

  • Best thing you can do is just put black tape over were your bpm counter is on your cdj's and train your ear from there.likewise with the bpm counter on your mixer.Day by day you will see a difference in your beat matching.Well it worked for me.

  • If he is trying to get them off beat or whatever. n since he was the same 2 songs. why doesnt her just look at the time of the songs n match them?? lol

  • Hey ellaskins your always in a different house. Are you a squatter? Are these foreclosure homes. I'm sure if you asked someone you could stay with them. Be safe my friend.

  • Same house pal, it's at the top of the stairs. Does your cardboard box only have one room? LOL

  • Im investing in a new cd player with BMP display, do i need to provide it with the BPM beforehand when i put it on a CD, or does it somehow get the BMP itself? I presume the first?

  • You CD player reads the first 10-20 secs of the track you are playing and calculates the BPM :) That's what I think lol

  • The CD player will constantly read the cd and keep updating the BPM in real time. You shouldn't try to dj with BPM counters, my friend does it and his mixing is shockingly bad, not only that, but he will NEVER get a perfect mix doing it that way.

  • what track r u using J?

  • nudge it with the jog wheel. =)

  • What about mixing a beat like this, traditional 1(bass kick) 2(snare) 3(Bass Kick) 4(snare)---with--- 1(bass kick) 2(bass kick) 3(snare) 4(snare). I find a lot of this when I mix Dn'B.

Thank you for putting yourself out here like this! It is a great help, even if I know what your talking about already it is helpful to hear you take on it!

  • DnB is the hardest to DJ, id say good luck

  • It's called the Amen Break!

  • sometimes palcing beat from new song between two beats from old song exactly in the middle gives nice effect.

  • how many hats do u have! lol great guide

  • Its just basic physics of sound.if anyone does acoustics as a class they will understand this.

  • that mixer is the sh*t to play with ;)

  • In short this is "ear beat" training ;:))

    Nice work!

    Cheers from Norway

  • Great vid buddy! What monitor are you using there?

  • thanks bro you help alot.

  • Lol Does He Just Have Decks Spread Out Everywhere around His House

  • Happy New Year, Jonathan, and thank you for the sweet video, this is one I've been wondering about for a while. Be well in 2010!!!

  • you can also do it by starting them at the same time then pitch bending one of them

  • do some serato stuff!

  • Effing Wicked.

  • whats that player on de left???? is it an american audio too????

  • it looks like a stanton C.314

  • stanton c.324

  • Stanton c.324

  • why are you using american audio cdj if you already have cdj1000 ???

  • @nicolaslievens sponsor stuff :)

  • whats the track name??

  • Enzyme Black - Take It

not only does he mention it at 1:55; it is also in the description

  • are them american audios any good?

  • Lol, we are trying to match beats while this guy is matching BPMs without having them hit at the same time! Lol. I suck.

  • dude you are amazing your videos are so useful,,but am just wondering how many Cdj's and mixer's have you got,,god every in each video there is different set :)

  • Phasing J? more like Flanging.

Isn't phasing an "Offset" on the stereo signal??

  • @jimmy

Both effects are very similar, and both depend on the phase interactions between the harmonic spectrum of 2 signals.

1: On a Flager, the second signal is delayed X number of milliseconds, and the delay time is modulated (commonly by an LFO).

2: On Phasing the second signal is treated with a filter (commonly all pass filter) thus altering the phase, and the interactions between the harmonics of both signals.

They do the same thing, but on different parts of the spectrum.

  • @nemesis4go10 What are you on about, I've been producing music for 6 years, I know the difference.

  • You said -isn't phasing an offset on the stereo signal-. Phasing has nothing to do with the stereo field.

Not that I care to correct it, just wanted to point the actual process of both effects since there is a lot of confusion around those two.

    Cheers.

  • This is just a demo. If you know ur tracks this will definitely work. You just have to pick the right parts.

  • i see the logic, but ill have to play around and see how it works.

  • i see the logic on this video how ever, watching it makes me want to just whack the jog wheel on beat haha

  • Im not a dj but I always wanted to be one but I always see dj's move the jogwheel then the pitch but couldnt you just move the pitch to the same beat as other song then just cue play and speed up?

  • @dominickd16 na will never go exact unless u keep playing with the pitch control/pitch bend

  • @dominickd16 in a word no. if it were that easy, we wouldnt need the jogwhell to pitch bend with

  • you can do it with just the pitch, takes practise is all, ill do a video on it

  • even though they are the same bpm it does not insure musical continuity. so it could technically still sound "off beat" even though the tracks are at the same bpm. you utilize the jogwheel to align the beats, hence beat matching.

  • beatmatching = getting 2 tracks at the same bpm....

beatMIXING = getting 2 tracks same bpm and the beats on top of eachother

  • good video, love your tutorials

  • your ears will help you tell how fast a track is going. its not going to tell you what the exact bpm is, besides you should know the bpm of the track you are playing before you start to play it so you should already know whether you need to pitch the track up or down.

as a vinyl dj it requires alot more skill to beatmatch because the track will ever so slowly begin to fall out of time due to the circumference decreasing per rotation.

  • J your growing some hair back? I think its time to buff the head. I think we all liked you better bald! lol

  • how was your new year you didn't do a new year party happy new year to you

  • nice one jon,i see your gettin back to doin the good old tutorials rather than that cd pool shit

  • @WILLJEAKS

    AMEN brother!

  • Interesting!

  • To have best control over bmp use 4-6 value of pitch =) think logicaly more space betwen 6% pitch when at 16% u have alot of less space to get great beatmatching =)

  • why dont u just beatmatch them then nudge one back a beat on the jogwheel?

  • at which value of the pitch do you usually use.. 4..6..8...16..32..or 100? i know it depends on the music but what is the most comftobale one?

  • In earlier videos I'm pretty sure Ella has said less is more, and he floats around 6-8.

  • @Smashedsmurf yeah i know he said it but i forgot. use them at 6 or 8 depends on the song and yes it's the best way to do it :)

  • how do you know the bpm on turntables?

  • Yours Ears.

  • your nickname starts with 'dj'... hmmm... anyway...

if you're using a djm-800 ot other mixer with a bpm counter you can use it as a rough guide. turntables don't have bpm counters.

Nowadays serato and traktor scratch are typically used by turntable DJs as you can see the bpm, and other useful information on your laptop screen.

  • @ramzevans obviously, that's why i'm asking. on tt's its rpb.

so how can you match the tempo on turntables and a basic mixer?

  • you listen to the snares or whatever constant beat there is in the songs and match them up

  • Yeah that's how it usually goes.Snare, Kick, Hat or Clap on beatmatching or 2 or more of them.

  • with your EARS ?!?

  • @brietzmann oh so you think my ears are going to tell me how fast a track is? o.O that's what i want to know!

  • your question was how to match the tempo. and for doing that you do not need any beatcounter or other stuff. you du everything by ear. well...at least that's what people did before computers did everything for you.

  • firstly, you should read both your questions. they are different. how do you find the bpm? and how do you match the tempo on truntables and a basic mixer? are not the same question.

if you count how many beats there are in 10 seconds and multiply that by 6 you will have a rough estimate. or just count how many beats there are in 1 minute and theres your more accurate 'bpm'

    duh...

  • they are the next model up from mine i think ?? american audio cdi 300 ?

  • hey great video j!

    when you on blogtv next?

  • use this link for it to work...watch?v=12l9xw1Imc8&fmt=18

  • Too bad, this video says 0:00/0:00, so apperantly its not working :/
