  • Video is so cute.

  • Have to watch this vid every now and then mainly because it puts me in the same mood when I first heard it. Its a wonderful thing to be a "black" person. Especially when our people are in their right minds..seeking knowledge, wisdom, understanding, and selflessness...man being around people who are pursuing those things is like a glimpse of heaven on earth. lol - At least to me it is.

    #BeEncouraged&Inspired

  • @80scooby Uugh that was actually a compliment. Sarcasm much honey?

  • Eeeee! @ 2:19! I love that couple! That is how me and my fiance are! I also love how the crowd is a mixed crowd! It shows the unity between different people. Go India!

  • My favorite line, "Where are your people from, maybe Mississippi or an Island." Ugh! I love that! I don't know why but it just makes me squeal! This song makes me proud to have brown skin. I don't care that I'm dark. I'm proud to be black! <3 Thanks India! I love your music!

  • Her voice is so gorgeous... pleasant..... sooooo smooth.......

  • I love this song and I love India Arie's music in general and SHE loves brown skin and so do I...This song isn't about race in MY MIND but even if it was...whats so bad with loving the skin you were born in or your culture/heritage? She is an artist and with a voice like that she could be singing about onion bagles for all I care...She is gifted and I think you all should just appreciate her art for what it is...BEAUTIFUL

  • Brazilians have brown skin, I my self have golden beige/ tan skin and love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Her music reaches out to all types of people:)

  • Black is sexy remain lovely ♥♥

  • 25ppl dont got brown skin

  • This Song Made Me Feel Better About Having Brow Skin! :)

  • Filipinos have brown skin =]

  • Black = Sexy.

  • Race by skin color and physical appearance is something people made up because without skin we all look exactly the same. there is only one, human.

  • Can't Americans just listen to good music without racial prejudice? The chick loves brown skin. Can't she just express herself? She hasn't said she hates black skin - that is only found in your heads.

  • I hate when white people come into a video thats showing love to the beauty of Black people they wanna trash it

  • @theyoungzay because you think only white people hate niggers, right.

  • @superf0b everyone would hate a "n" but, no one should hate a BLACK person or any other race of people. I hate it when people think that's our name. We are BLACK not "n", or anything else derogatory like that. Just like Mexicans are not wet__ or white people aren't crac__. So, the next time you r going to reply to someone, think about what ur about to say, because if u act on anger, you might say something stupid (like your comment here).

  • @theyoungzay Real, Classy, Down to Earth. India Arie is an Original unlikely to be duplicated by any of the New Audio-Toned Pop..ooooh...yeah...baby...BS. India hands down is one of the best~and my skins almost as lite a snow.

  • @theyoungzay They're just jealous because if a song was made about their skin, it'd be called, pink, flaky, doughy, stinky skin. LOL

  • I <3 being white! hehe ;)

  • @XxMaryann231xX Thats dumb. Race isn't an achievement, it's not a skill. It's not like you work hard your whole life to become white. Saying "I'm proud to be "white" is tantamount to saying, "I'm proud to have skin". Are you proud to have ears? It makes no rational sense whatsoever. Do you feel so inadequate as an individual, so you claim belonging to something bigger than yourself out of desperation.

    ~Yahoo

  • @StarSisters2,

XxMaryann231xX was simply responding in kind to KwurKee's top rated comment, "I <3 BEING BLACK."

I'm sure her comment was just poking fun and no offense was meant.

  • @canycme exactly! :)

  • @StarSisters2 okey, thanks for that explanation, but I wasn't serious haha :D

  • Like the The Other Calendar at Facebook

  • most sensual kiss i've EVER seen (that's not on the lips)

  • his brown skin against my white skin..............mmmmm love my husband:)

  • in slavery times, had a negative effect on the current black people because it made them feel as if the "darker you are, the uglier you are", which is not true at all! I love you India and thanks for confirming what I already know to be true =)

  • @TheCutegirljess Thanks for saying that. I can't stand when people say, "Oh _____ is too dark." Or "OMG ____ is so dark!" My response, "So what?" Nothing is wrong having a dark complexion. I used to dislike my dark brown skin and then I decided to stop listening to all the haters.

  • @aoazulemi3 girl yes but the famous line is oh well ___ is cute to be dark skin!

  • She motivates me in every way to continue to embrace my dark skin! I love being of color, and no one can ever make me feel any different! India, is an inspiration to me and in this cruel prejudice world, the young girls need more positive influences such as she. So many black girls are insecure of their color, especially darker skinned girls who wish to be lighter. Black is beautiful all the way around! Black comes in different shades and I love it! Its a shame how the past society

  • She is so beautiful. Everything she sings makes me think about making love.

  • this song is so amazing beautiful. when i was younger growing up i wished i had light skinned or a different but, everyone wants to change something about themselves. when i got older and grew a little wiser. i begin to love my skin color i have dark chocolate brown skin. i am confident where i go & say to myself i can have any man i want. people recognize confident with beauty. to me i am beautiful i hope all women feel this way regardless of skin color. i am a women that know her self worth.

  • @browneyedgal2389 Absolutly browneyed....i agree

  • @browneyedgal2389 same here

  • @browneyedgal2389 thank you for that my sister. God bless.

  • @projectchik your welcome

  • @browneyedgal2389 :: luv it :) In the words of IndiaArie "I know my creator didn't make no mistakes on me" lol :) I feel ya on the older and wiser. I got teased as a kid by fam members no less for being the lightest of the light skinned in a family that consisted of half light skinned and half brown skinned and didn't take into account the fact that my dad was white. As I got older I realized it wasn't my problem it was theirs. Knowledge IS power...they lack knowledge my own kids possess.

  • @chakar703 Yeah i know how you feel. My parents moved us to mostly white all neighorhood in middle school. Children were were so mean. I had all sorts of problems not to mention a girl told me she did not want to be my friend because i black threw my bag and tripped me. People will tell me your pretty for a dark skinned girl as if I'm supposed to be ugly because i have dark skin. I used to let people walk all over my self-confidence but, not anymore. I love my dark skin would never trade it.

  • @browneyedgal2389 I hear that. I'm actually very jealous of you. I'm light skinned, but I wish I was dark. Because there is a more richer beauty to it then if you were pee colored light. I know, love who you are. But still, I'd like to be dark skinned.

  • @PiaoliangHua I used to be really jealous of others. I realized how beautiful I am. I am finally accepting myself for who i am although i am still finding myself as person but, sweetie you have to realize that you are more than your skin colored, hair, and but, you are a beautiful soul that lives within in your body. your body is only how you are on the outside but, your soul is what lives within you. remember you are beautiful have confident. I know its hard out in this world today.

  • @browneyedgal2389 my best friend is black, maybe its cuz of where i live but ive never really witnessed true racism, i mean my high school was 50% white and black and we all got along great

  • @alex20wild consider yourself lucky then. :)

  • @browneyedgal2389 sure bet

  • no matter what the racist white people says, black of all shades is beautiful, not just light skinned people , all shades, I love my brown skin and proud of it, and no one can make me feel inferior about my skin color. I've seen beautiful people in all shades of color

  • This video makes me wanna be black. lmfao, How come black people have the best love songs? I wanna listen to this while having sex but im not black, so idk. XD

  • @crewifyable dooooo ittt. It doesn't matter what color you are lol . or idk if ever you happen to date a black person put that song on ;)

  • @crewifyable That's ok...get yourself a ghetto pass and work it. lmao

  • @crewifyable You don't have to be black to enjoy a song, silly.

  • @SpiralDaze First time anyone called me silly. lmao, i was expecting a person from britan to do it lmao

  • i dont have brown skin, but i simply adore this song...

    so classy and soulful...

    real music to enjoy...

    much love to Ms. Arie...

  • 24 PEOPLE DONT HAVE BROWN SKIN

  • loved it then and love it even more .. makes me wish i had brown skin .... love this track soooo muchly xx

  • ...was that cee-lo 1:38 ?

  • @thechocolatebee I know! I thought it was, too. But I paused it to take a better look & I really don't think it is.

Hahahah, that would be crazy if it was, though!

  • @liljapanesegrl75 lol ye it would. when i saw him tho i was like "huh ?" but in a Scooby-Doo kind of voice lol

  • @thechocolatebee HAHAH, me, too! Not exactly in the Scooby Doo voice, but I get you. :] That'd be cool if they knew each other. I'd be curious to see them collaborate. (:

  • become lighter* :p

  • There is no such thing as races within the human races. Technically we are all African! The only reason race exists is through people like Hitler.....aka..society, but science proves something completely different! It's only through migration away from africa and colder climates that our features become darker.

I LOVE this song and I love the Darkest of brown skin to lightly brown, it's all beautiful :)

  • @gia2black I get what your saying, but how do u explain hair?

  • thumps up for having sex with black men! lol

  • i want to meet her sooo bad ! , i bet shes down to earth && humble

  • would have been better to have a nice dark beefy guy instead of such a skinny guy, but great song nonetheless

  • if i was her age i would totally dig him, like as in hes a very handsome man

  • Love making love to this song

  • 24 ppl must be lightskinned lol...#teambrownskin I love this song

  • @LadyA081387 lol right

  • Was that Cee-Lo????

  • I wish more black folks listened to stuff like this. Now with lil wayne unfortunately being the role model of so many kids including black kids, they are being taught to hate their skin color everytime the listen to his music and watch his videos. The self hate has got to stop!

  • @khalilahinjapan Lil Wayne does not teach self hate of his skin..idk what lyrics u'r listening to. If anything, I take his lyrics and imply self love...when u sing the songs, u become the artist and when he says I'm the best, u'r saying to u'rself, I'm the best. He has some songs that not kid appropriate but that's for the parents to decide. He's he's a dark brother, and one of the best. How can he possible be afflicting self hate?

  • @jhoney1223 "Beautiful black woman, I bet that b*tch look better red” is a lyric in the song Right Above. What does that say to you?

  • I <3 BEING BLACK !

  • thank you so much

everytime i wacht this i feel so confident about myself and then i can confront the society

  • I'm a young india arie. U want to cuddle

  • i need me a young india arie in my life...

  • india arie is so gifted. she doesn't get the credit she deserved

  • love this song Please check out my version... like or dislike. THanks

  • LOVE!

  • brown skin, in my mouth, u so sweet...

  • who's gonna love me like this?

  • @natureboyinyourface aarrgh i know right?

  • LOVE THIS SONG

  • Prince covered this song at the North Sea Jazz festival in Holland on July 10th, 2011.

  • Im mixed from the carib islands n i have a lighter skin tone but i Luv me some Brown skin in any shade :)

  • Found my next song cover. Love this beautiful song.

  • I Love This Song

  • We need more songs that embrace the African race such as these. Due to hip hip videos(which are controlled by white industries) that uplift light skin & anything THAT ISN'T BLACK, our Black youths are being taught to hate their beautiful brown skin. We are losing self-esteem in our culture & at this rate we will be extinct. MY BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL !!!

  • @Lexia01 so true.. things have to change

  • @Lexia01 ...........

  • @BforQueen Well, that was dumb. Why "reply" to my comment when you're just going to put momentary dots? What I said was correct & if you disagree...sucks for you.

  • @Lexia01 AMEN TO THAT HONEY!!!

  • @Lexia01 Truth!

  • @Lexia01 Dude stfu allmost all rappers are black and they in their musicvideos they definetely dont uplift light skin. Black people ARE NOT taught to hate their skin. Black people wil lbe extinct ? dude stfu are you 6? Actually the world is becoming more and more accepting of black people. Stop being fucking emo

  • @HemaFTW Wow I'm not even going to entertain that dellusional & inferior comment. I would be an idiot to do so. You keep living in that fantasy world of yours okay ;). Have a nice day...you're just living proof that some people are closed minded & still asleep.

  • @Lexia01 Pff never mind. Ofcourse racism exists but you're acting like music videos are promoting white skin, everybody is against blacks and that you are taught to hate your skincolor. That is simply not true. Grow the fuck up this is not the time of martin luther king anymore. We've got a black president for chists sake

  • @HemaFTW Nah, I don't need to do anything. But you need to self-educate yourself & read books my friend. Enough said. I'm ending this discussion :)

  • @Lexia01 Tell the truth speak the word girl BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL AND WE GOT TO EMBRACE EVERY BIT OF IT!

  • Hello. Babe, great song
