  • LEGEND

  • Great Days There were no f---- Immigrants

  • Sometimes you forget just how many really good songs Ray Davies has penned thanks for reminding me

  • Come on Ray Davies get old like the rest of us. No it just won't happen Brill

  • chuffin' marvellous.

  • he is just as good as ever and still has that cute boyish expression as he sings. sure would love to meet him and sweep him off his feet, if only i could. keep on dreamin movin forward!!

  • I can't enjoy the nice songwriting. It's just painful to hear his voice sometimes.

  • Ray is always great on the time that never was

  • 1 november Amsterdam!

  • hop farm tomorrow! :D

  • FANTASTIC!

I Just Cant Wait Too See Him At THE HOP FARM FESTIVAL !! :D

  • John Lennon was the King, the rest come in second, that is the truth and we all know it.

  • @Nicolene130 that's opinion

  • what a song writer. better than that faggot dyan.

  • Good that one of the greatest songwriters is still creating gems like this one

  • Lennon is Lennon a genius in his own right. We all have and love our favorite/best music but Why compare it in a way to say one is "better" than the other. I appreciate both Ray davies and John Lennon, Vive la difference!!!

  • I think he is greatest than john lennon, yeah, i said it!!!....

...a lot of people stone me 'cause that, but i don't care!!...Ray is god

  • AGREED!!

  • @DohertyTownshend

    I AGREE 100% !!!! I thought I was the only one !!

  • @DohertyTownshend Ray who?

  • @DohertyTownshend English professor?

  • Ohhh Ray, Du bist der größte für mich;-))

  • Totally agree.

  • Quite a statement. I disagree for sure but....

  • had a pint with him a couple of years ago.a very niv,cee genuine man

  • lucky you!

  • mmmmmmmmm

  • its just i very often drink with him and he has never once mentioned anything about you or this drink you speak of.

  • Ray's still got it.

  • Probably not......BUT! Lets send a mail to the Boss. If he agrees that virtually the whole catalogue is chronic bunk I will, as punishment ,Groundhog Day the entire Ray Davies and Kinks collection.

  • I learned a long time ago that the Kinks will always be my favorite, with the Boss, who I am seeing tomorrow for the world tour opener in San Jose, right behind. Bruce wasnt always perfect, especially in the 90's with 2 mediocre records Human Touch and Lucky Town, but the Kinks literally have hundreds of timeless gems, and the fact that music critics and musicians worship them and not the general public makes them even more special. Go listen to Arthur, Village Green and Lola albums to start

  • in the yrs 64-71, Ray and the K. had countless hits in europe and UK. Their string of 45s is legendary. we school boys then DUG them outtasight. (only B's and RS wete " better"). The K later albums differ, but generally contain MANY wonderful songs. I HAVE THEM ALL!! ON VINYL!! SAW RAY IN 2006, Utrecht NL. Eet meer haring.

  • As a #1 Kinks fan and #2 Bruce fan (hence my youtube name) I would like to apologize for BigRiverOne and his ignorance...you are embarrassing me son. The Kinks put out a treasure trove of music and Bruce is legendary for his live show...and vice versa. enough said, they are both head and shoulders above anyone else in my book (as long as Bruce is with the E Street Band of course)

  • "very few hits 4 Ray Davies" ....Great songwriting doesn't always equal "hit" . But, you should already know that River. Guess you haven't REALLY listened to or spent enough time with the Boss.

  • That's right, The Kinks have dozens of songs that I consider masterpieces, but weren't hits. Ray is one of the truly great, genius songwriters of all time.

  • Was he ever. Well said, rrrasmus!

  • big river one, im from america and i just want to say you are a complete fool for saying ray davies and the kinks are not good and only had a few hits. That is total bullshit but more importantly, anyone who knows anything about music knows that to really know any artist or band you need to listen to much more than just a greatest hits cd, so before you go critcizing ray and the kinks, check out all their stuff you god damn fool

  • If Bruce Springsteen had been born in England he'd have been Ray Davies and vice versa! It's all about your influences.

  • ray proves he hasnt lost it,he never will, the glasgow kinks loyal fan club,we love you ray.

  • 正直前作がイマイチだったのですが、このアルバムは良い!!

    この曲大好きです!!

  • Ray Davies for prime minster, one man who COULD sort our once proud countr out. LOVE YOU MATE !!!

  • Really good to see us come so far, but havent we forgot who we are......? Great song, poignant lyrics. Genius at work.

  • Lovely. I must get this record.

  • This song is beautiful. I just love the lyrics and the melody, especially the part about the fruit and veg man what a classic song. Only Ray Davies would release his first solo albums over thirty years after the Kinks prime and have it be this damn good.

None of his contemporaries outside of Bob Dylan have released any solo albums this strong in the last 10 years.

  • search youtube for "ray davies over my head" it is off Ray's 2006 solo album. The name escapes me right now, but I saw the Austin City Limits Davies performance of the songs off the 2006 album. Simple great!!!

  • is that Carl Palmer on drums?

BUT until then catch Ray on his solo end of year 2008 tour in the US! - Frank Lima, The Montvale, New Jersey Hillbilly Boy aka Dan the Fan

  • someone asked who the blonde is.

    thats karen, his girlfriend.

  • oh I love Ray's guitar

  • Не стареют душой ветераны! Круто - чувак занудствует, как и сотни лет надвд.

  • Hi

Any of you know if there is a DVD released for this show? I tried to find something , but there is no info at Internet about it

  • Can anyone tell me who's playing the red gretch? He was smokin' hot on the Letterman show.

  • The main man enough said no one can touch Ray the fastest gun in the west .... god how we love you come back to Ireland and Dublin please

  • celt 68...not much chance of ramondo coming back to Ireland too soon, I'm afraid...not even the UK...since he moved to New Orleans and took out US citienship he plays regularly only in North America now...hates the UK, I believe...in fact, he's headlining a gig here in Winnipeg, Canada in two weeks where they'll be about 100,000 crowd...so lots of dosh...that's all this guy has ever cared about...ask those who know him. Great tunes, though, innit????

  • great tunes, definitely, but I can't agree that all Ray's ever cared about is the money. He's always rejected commercial trends in favour of persuing his own artistic ideas. Also, he's been playing in the UK, I saw him a couple of weeks ago! did not get the impression he hates it here at all

  • Where abouts did you see him? i saw him at Hampton Court Palace, and i agree, he seemed very happy to be back in England. I also didn't get the impression he only cares about the money, you can tell he is still very passionate about his music...

  • I was at Hampton Court too, amazing performance! Great to see him still trying out new ideas and writing new material, not just resting on his back catelogue

  • Ray actually lives in London now, north London, right round where he grew up. So you are way off the mark there. And I think it's save to say that he doesn't hate the UK, he's probably one of its greatest champions. And this particular song is great evidence of that, that's what it is about.

  • Does e?? U sure? Read article where he was interviewed saying he now lived in New Orleans and it was the only place he had ever felt really a home and that he had wished he had moved there years ago...I lived in North Londona t time of Ray and the Kinks and the Muswwll Hillbilly thing so was VERY surprised to read this interview,,,said his new band was based out of there and all that...

  • Love you Ray! So glad you still are keeping the fires of rock 'n' roll burning...

  • i was there under Ray's right handside 1st raw. Great song write and great gig.!.

  • Me too - it was my birthday as well - what a present!

  • someone have the theme "Musique d'amour"

    Composed by Ray Davies??????????????

  • самурай-мужчина! просто монстр непотопляемый какой-то!

  • Ray Davies'music speaks to the common man, and often refers to memories that shape his yearning for a simpler, purer time. He writes of anxieties, disillusionment and failed relationships but always finds hope for the future. His views are witty, sentimental, critical and hopeful all at the same time. "Gotta stand and face it, life is so complicated."

His quirky songs and wry observations are cleverly wrapped up in some of the most melodic tunes you'll ever hear from a rock artist.

  • one of the best writers of songs in the pop history.

  • I just saw this song live at the Tower in Philly. It has to be my favorite song from his new stuff. I had only listened to it one time before the show. But at the show i felt like i knew every word.

    A wonderful masterpeice of music

  • I was there too at the Tower. He's one hell of an artist. There's not many of the originals that still can sing their original songs in the original keys. I was wowed watching him sing "Tired of Waiting" I thought, geez he's 63 and still going strong. He IS the storyteller. Thanks Ray!! Love ya to death!

  • The more I listen to this album the higher I rate it. These are grown-up beautiful songs that get a hook on you.

Thanks poster aned thanks Ray for remaining so brilliant. PLEASE TOUR UK AGAIN SOON!

  • Hey, Ray-Don't be such a stranger to the music scene next time. Look what happens to rock when you disappear for so long. All the shit groups take over. Let's have a KinKs reunion before it's too late.

  • Here here.... a reunion, I hope so, but Dave has vowed never to reunite. Is there still hope??? What do you think?

  • God, we wish! But I really don't think he sounds up for it. Partly because he's still recovering - but mainly, I think, because he doesn't want to be steamrollered by Ray. Shame though.

  • I agree, it would be excellent if they did a reunion tour, but theyve all moved on, Pete is in Canada, Mick is in the Kast off Kinks, and i doubt Dave would want to work with Ray again. shame.

  • JUST AWESOME.......Enough Said!!!!! Many Thanks

  • You were magnificent tonight Ray - please play Auckland again. We loved you.

  • Ray?Dave?...Please remember...Love lasts forever!Longer than a pop song.Right?We love you..And all your beautiful songs as well.Angels are everywhere...it's f...ing lovely!

  • Please come back to America Mr Davies.

  • So true Ray...

  • WHo's the blonde on the back-up vocals?

  • "by being a broad"?

  • Excellent guy, great british man, wonderful person .

  • What a beautiful song.

He has not lost the touch to speak for the 'everyman'.

He was my first concert when I was just a girl of 15 and now 37 years later he still can bring a tear to my eye.

  • I love it. I have been a Kinks fan for about 30years. Their precious poetry and music has

inspired me as a watercolor artist. It is great to have Ray checking back in. I appreciate his passion and view of the world.

  • Wonderfull!!!!!!!!!

  • This LP is the best Ray has ever done, and that is saying a lot.

  • Best artist ever!

Hope to see him again with Dave and Mick.

  • great song great album. great work. great artist....thanks Ray

  • great song. grea

  • I never tought this genius lost her hair, sic transit gloria mundi, great artist now baldie

  • Great song writer.

  • Don't get much better than this!

    Thank-Q!

    Gregg

  • Certainly a return to form for Ray here! Super!

  • a return to form?

The man has always maintained..perhaps your ears have just been elsewhere.

Ray Davies...is there anyone to even at least challenge him?

  • My ears have been listening to average Kinks/ ray davies releases for about 20 years. Maybe your ears need syringing.

  • It's a return to form indeed. Phobia, Uk Jive and Think Visual were pieces of shit. Oh and before you say anything The Kinks are my favourite band and Ray Davies my favourite musician/artist/songwriter ever.

  • You need to have your head examined!

How can you claim the Kinks are your favorite band and Ray is your favorite songwriter ever and call those three albums pieces of shit?!

Are you really 20 years old as your profile states?

Usually it's the old farts and their "Village Green" mentality who would take that stance on later day Kinks material.

I do agree with you that Ray is the greatest singwriter ever, no one can touch him...now, then or ever.

  • Those three albums are terrible, each has two amazing songs, but still the result is pretty bad. And I do appreciate all their career, I love their 60s work the best but I also love their 70s albums, Muswell Hillbillies, Preservation, Schoolboys in Disgrace, Misfits and I even consider Soap Opera an underrated masterpiece.

The 80s were okay, they went down on quality a bit, but still I adore Word of Mouth I think it's great.

  • We obviously both love The Kinks so it's moot to sit here and argue about now and then, but I have to tell you we are on total opposite sides on thinking.

I feel Preservation and Word of Mouth are the two album that I can say only have a few killer songs on them.

Put it this way..a so-called decline in the quality of Kinks material would still land them in the excellent catagory.

Few if any can claim that.

  • to Johnny Seven...I am with you. No one can

touch him. I am an old fan, 52, but my mind

is young and beautiful. Just right for all the

Kink's music. It is for all.

  • I would like to disagree with you, but all 3 of those records were mediocre, but the good stuff was still pretty incredible. A few good songs per record? Perhaps. But, I can't honestly say I've listened to much since then from any artist that doesn't suffer from the same "a few good song" review.

  • great !!!! the best for ever

    when the next tour ?

  • Great Song from a great Album.

  • Great song so so true, how boring is Britain today, same retail parks, same shops in every high st in the country, empty shops often become tacky takeaways, finger on the button Ray as always,at least your unique.

  • Excellent comeback!

  • i can relate to this song .worked in constuction for years and now am disabled and am told by the powers that be I didn,t work the right "quarters"to draw disability!seems the working man always gets pissed on in the end! This song makes me feel better!

  • 'Work' used to be a good thing. I hope something good comes your way :)

  • THANK YOU !

  • Great song! Great new cd! Is this from a DVD release?? Thanks for posting!

  • This man is a god, I swear... Fantastic as always, cheers for posting!
