  • Very useful! I'll hopefully be getting a cannon soon, so I'll remember these tips :D

    Favourited!

  • and u CAN auto focus while filming, there is a very clear setting under "Movie"

  • i dont think u can tell people how to make videos, when u cant properly sync ur voice

  • he's on technobuffalo!

  • first time watching this channel i was like what the hell, he works for techwaffle too?? "Because of the intro" but then i realized that this was his channel :P

  • Nice video! But i was wondering if it was possible to just record VIDEOS straight to the computer instead of using the SD CARDS .. ( i mean I want to bypass the memory card and record directly to my Laptop - hard disk ) _ (??) any ideas ? _sorry for my english..

  • Lol this is a cool channel :D

  • Very nice video! Very helpful, I thought I would never get the focus stuff on my t1i! But thank you,I will pop in my cd to my laptop!

  • 2:37 - lettuce!

  • great stuff! one thing you (and almost everyone else) missed.. you actually CAN autofocus while recording, it's only not that great..

  • I can not believe that there was no mention of this AWESOME SOFTWARE with my t2i OMG. Installing it right now.

  • the more things i keep finding out about this camera ....sick

  • Nice one yaa Keep it up

  • Hey WTF? My Canon t3i DIDN'T come with a CD! I want that.

  • now lets try that outdoors ,halfway up a mountain in the high wind, snow and sub zero temperatures... :o)

  • HAHA GO TO THIS AND PAUSE IT 1:00

  • Do they sell the disk in stores? My brother broke it!

  • @TheCulinaryWizard I believe you can download the software from your camera manufacturer's homepage.

  • You CAN auto focus while filming on the T2i...just make sure the lens is switched to AF then hold the shutter down halfway. It looks rubbish while recording but is useful to setup your focus quick before filming.

  • Thx for the vid. Just an fyi same focusing + shutter speeds + ISO's is available for Nikon since the D100 dayz. Nowadays am shooting still & video w/my Atrix tho. Again thx Ima subscribing - good stuff.

  • thx for talk much!

  • Yay now i know how to do stuff... and shit. I put all these programs onto my computer when i got my camera nearly a year ago! and only just orked out what i can use them for today XD thank yooo!!

  • THE REALLY RAD THING... is that this is MY camera :D Heh heh heh, 3 it

  • Whats the program called?

  • @SkateStaR210 Canon EOS Utility.

  • @SkateStaR210 eos utility

  • @SkateStaR210 eos utility

  • BEAUTIFUL!

  • What is the program called? I installed the CD but I can't find the program that allows me to see what the camera is seeing..

  • fuck i threw the cd away cause i knew i wouldn't need it xP

  • Does that software that lets you control the camera on your computer work on a Mac?

  • @purellbb59 yes its mac and pc well at least the one i got with my 600D [T3i]

  • @TheiPodTuch Thank you thats perfect. Thats my up coming camera (:

  • @purellbb59 I'm Glad It Helped :)

  • @purellbb59 Yes, it does work on a mac :D i've seen it on other ppl's mac's as well

  • @karoouum Well, Camera EOS Utility actually doesn't support Mac OS X Lion as of now I am almost certain.

But, As always I could be mistaken.

  • @TheWizard854 EOS utility version 9.0 and above or 7.0 and below do not work on lion. however version 8.0 and 8.1 work.

  • @Sebastian5495 Wow, I never knew that.

    Thanks!

  • @TheWizard854 :)

  • I Just Bought the 60d, I Can Auto Focus While Recording... Pass That Along to Mr. Franco!

  • Good advice. I just picked up a T3i today and I am definitely going to be using that software now that I know what it can do.

  • lucky i just got a can 1100D :D cause my Panasonic just broke ;P

  • thanks for advice, as the old saying goes you learning something new everyday.

  • Ty!!! Very helpful

  • Very useful! Thank You @techwaffle

  • a computer screen in my case a laptop

  • "trippay!"

  • Oh God what a waffler :-(

  • Wait just a cocking pitting minute. DSLR's aren't film cameras. As a matter of fact, the word Digital is in the name. Last time I checked, a DSLR uses an image sensor to record video, I cannot image shoving some Kodak film in their to record movies. You are only filming when you are using a film camera. Other than that, you are recording.

  • @lizards821 Splitting hairs?

  • @cpo2u Not really, people need to know that when you are filming, it means you must be using a film camera, not a DSLR.

  • g-d. japanese guy showing camera, love it

  • great vid tutz I learn new tricks why would'nt think of that

  • A little strange to use a camera as a camcorder but I guess it's what most people do.

Is there any good camcorders out there that could actually help achieve a film/movie look?

  • Awesome video dude...

  • this was very helpfull thankyou ! (: one thing , im new to dslr's and when i video record on my canon 1100d can i just have a auto mode where i dont have to focus ? for action sports and such , reply asap please (:

  • @HaydenBelk123 Simple answer: No.

  • what is the camera he has at 1:00?

  • @otherMineKB panasonic lumix zc7

  • On another note the 7d can use Af during video but becuase of the facts it's not a video camera it looks over exposed, so it's not built for video, something we are talking about

  • Non of the canon cameras have Af during video mode, according to canon, still photographers also confuse the Af by disregard it for video, you do need it to lock into subjects when using a video camera, in action and distant shots especially

  • 7d can autofocus while filming...but nobody does that.

  • Your voice is Awesome!

  • boring

  • thinkin about installing the software, too, does this also work with my eos 500d (rebel t2i)?

  • @MrJeffrey365 sorry, I meant t1i...

  • Funny.

  • what's the best Canon camera that I can get for around $200-$300 or less? Specifically for video recording.

  • @thepureviolence get a Sony Handycam 1080, You wont get a good Canon for Video for that price.

  • Why do Japanese worship eletcronics and imitating Americans

  • @SkyFilmography I think that statement might be a little backwards...

  • Cock sucker

  • wow man lets now ride phils dick too much, his channel sucks anyways

  • I just bought the Canon rebel t3i and this was SO helpful! Thanks for sharing these awesome tips! I'm definitely going to be coming back to check out more =)

  • What camera are they using to film!!!! its such good quality

  • i don't think it works with lion ={

  • i assure that Phil is not watching lol

  • What was the beginning song right before the waffle came up?

  • or use wide angle and close down the apperture to F9

then everything will be in focus.

You will however need more light than usual

  • I just bought a T3i, myself. I'm on a mac, though.

I hope the remote software will still work.

    Thanks for the tip.

  • we shudnt zoom while its on auto mode rite??

  • @rockindglobe well you can. it definitely would not hurt the camera or the lense. but i think if you zoom while you're in auto or manual focus setting, you do change the focus point a little but it is not that noticeable.

  • bluewaffle :3

  • its time for jumship???huu

  • Any linux tips for this?

  • OMG THANK YOU !!

  • my hair is wet still

  • 0:08 WHOA THAT SCARED THE DEMON OUT OF ME!!!

Tip from me: don't use stabilizer when dslr is on tripod :).

  • @safian31337 why

  • Comment removed

  • @safian31337 So how can i disable it hahaha!

  • @safian31337 Why not, just overkill.... slows things down?

  • @safian31337 why

  • @safian31337 why not?

  • Link to that Philly D video you talk about?

  • omg that waffle made me spontaneously cackle; lol

  • skip all the ADS crap: 1:00

  • what lense do you use :)?

  • you can autofocus while shooting go to first menu set to AF live mode then scroll down to AF with shutter button that being said i recomend staying manual in case your stedicaming or otherwise have hands on camera because a focus while shooting will ruin a shot.

  • tripphey

  • what about exposure controls, for super low lighting? IT IS IMPORTANT THAT I HAVE FULL CONTROL OVER EXPOSURE CONTROLS!

  • Dude, I like your style and even though this was a short video, you gave out some really good info. Thumbs up my man!

  • did you use the canon 550d to make this video are were you using another camera?

  • this guy is in no position to be teaching people how to use DSLRs when his video is horribly over exposed and has the wrong white balance

  • thanks dude!

  • TRIPPPPEEEEAAAAAAYYYYYY

  • i'm subscribed to 3 jon's, jon rettinger jon TLD and Jon waffle :)

  • 921 $

  • Ha it's Noah Q or whatever his name is from TechnoBuffalo!

  • hey Im a really newbie with camera , but how do you do from 0:01 - 0:07 ? its like the cutting scene ? u know im talking about ? do we need like 2 cameras or something ?

  • I cant understand a word that comes out of that chinese mans mouth... l2speak.

  • You CAN focus while filming, yes. I've got a T2i as well.

  • @palemango but it looks like crap. I have a 60D.

  • @JulianKooijmans Yeah, that's why I stick to manual focusing while moving around.

  • Haha, this was funny.

  • Love the tips and ideas showed here - UnitedByPhotography.

  • can anyone please tell me if theres a similar software for nikon? the one that comes with the camera doesn't have this feature. PLEASE.

  • Bro what did you use to edit your video and how did you compressed it for youtube? Quality is amazing!!!!

  • Everyone in technology is called Jon

  • CANON CAN AUTOFOCUS WHILE FILMING BUT IT SUCKS

  • your videos are great! but your jokes... not so much... im serious about this, im not joking... trydifrent kinds of jokes or maybe practicing or maybe dont even say jokes because it distract people from the real issue of the video... good luck

    sign: thewallfilms!

  • @TWFthewallfilmsTWF Yeah, totally not trying to be mean, but I agree. The video was super helpful though.

  • Cool didnt kno the cd had that lol

  • Thanks To Blogs like This I Don't Haver To Read Manuals.

  • Thanks! This will make my life so much better filming with my t3i!

  • Im not Phil but this vidoe helped a lot! what's this program called because my t1i came with 3 discs

  • this video edit is just lousy.... the constant chopping of the audio when you speak through out the video is just plain annoying and demonstrates a poorly thought out video!

  • is phil d watching this?

  • If only I had a DSLR... : (

  • does anyone know if this program that allows you to control the camera is only for windows? does it work for macs as well? thanks!

  • Great vid. I learned all of the tricks here on my own over the course of a few months. Wish I found your video before all that damn trial and error! ;)

  • OH SHIT, TLD!!!

  • hey look TRIIIPPPPPEHHH

  • Canon DSLR CAN auto-focus while filming.

  • @zieWRITES how can you help me with this message me thank you :)

  • @iliketurtlesme well, it's nt reallie an auto focus. well, it's like how u focus on live view while taking photos.move the square to the subject and hold the Exposure Lock button. correct me if i'm wrong.

  • @zieWRITES No, i guess what he meant was... continuously auto focus like what the Nikon 3100 has... I have a 550D or in this case the Rebel T2i... and i keep on half pressing the shutter button to refocus on moving objects... but most of the time i do it manually(which is a lot better)... Cheers!

  • Can i Shoot at 24fps / 720p or 24fps / 1080p on Cannon 500D? i need help how to do this settings.. thank u very much if any could help for that settings

  • niiice!:D I was like.. do i have the CD? Running at my room and picking up the canon 550d box and i found a CD:D WOOHO!

  • love this asian dude. lol!

  • What's the name of the cd???

  • @spy96 you aré right, i'll keep saving for the follow focus!

  • U are so happy face!!!!! :-)

  • can you focus while recording on the EOS utility?

  • You can autofocus WHILE filming on 550d

  • @spy96 Yeah, but it's too slow

  • @MaghoxFr Depends on the lens in my experience.

  • @spy96 I have the 18-55mm and a 55-250mm and both are pretty slow. Which one would you say it's acceptably fast?

  • @MaghoxFr ultrasonic ones. 1.4 50mm for example. Could be better, but better than "wroom wroom wroom wroom"

  • @spy96 They say the nifty fifty is a good one, I'm broke now so I'll stick to what I have. It would be awesome to autofocus though.

  • @MaghoxFr It is more accurate. But it is noticeable on the footage tho. über accurate :D

  • will keep this tip in mind when I finally get myself a DSLR :D

  • chuckle chuckle :D but yes very educational

  • does any one know how to do that with a nikon?

  • @MrlloydCook I know! Sell your Nikon and buy a Canon. After that watch this video and follow step by step on how to do it!!!

  • @MrlloydCook depends wich camera i have a nikon that takes video and every nikon should come with a cd that says nikon camera control its the same thing as in the video

  • @MacChris4691 I have a Nikon D3100

  • @MacChris4691 check your box for software cd's if not google nikon camera control and you can download it

  • @MrlloydCook

with a Nikon (d3100, 5100, 7000) you don't need a software to auto focus in video mode... you just press the shutter button half way down..

  • @TheVGvids No, I'm not asking that I'm not a retard, I'm asking how to controller your nikon over your computer... did you even watch the video?? :S

  • @MrlloydCook there is a program you gotta buy for like 200 dollars.

  • @MrlloydCook ya, throw it in the trash and buy a Canon

  • @MrlloydCook You use a program called Camera Control Pro
