Thanks again Chris for coming out to show this during the 2010 Mt. Woodson Shindig. I can still recall first meeting your Mom and Dad while your Mom was TRing Robbins Crack when she was seven month's pregnant with you! You've been climbing longer than you think, lol!
Hey Kurt and Chris, we just replaced the bolts on the Dunce Cap. The first bolt was an old casing bolt, the actual threaded bolt was only in 1/2"! I'll post a pic of it later. There are now a mix of 1/2" stainless 5 piece rawls and fixe triplex.
brilliant project to have done! climbing great benefits from not only passing the torch, but revisiting the unique light that older versions shone. I remember the being at competitions with agro Kurt circa 91-92 and its so awesome to see him in this melo vibe soul mentor era. Bravo for those with the vision to realize a project and relationship such as this.
I can remember being in the Valley in the early 90s when Kurt Smith was drilling the shit out of El Capitan with his Bosch. I think he even admitted chipping holds. It was not considered an advance in climbing.
Chris, great climbing as usual! Saw your up on Mt. Woodson today. Training for another ridge route on Shasta again. Just make sure you don't heat any more cans of soup in the fire! Peace out Mr. V

Wow. That was so cool. Just like life, it felt too short; but it was FULL. No pre-placed draws made it super awesome. Can't wait for more like this. Project dot dot dot...
Where is that climb at 1:08? I want to check it out next time i'm out there.

The rating in the Vogel book has the "Dunce Cap" at 5.13a. Pretty stiff grade for Josh 20 yrs. Ago.

Just came from there. Tons of boulders. Grading I felt was pretty burly. I usually boulder V3-V4 and the V0's and V1's were crushing me.

reat climbing and nice job with the video, but what's up with this bolt-protected, chalked-up route being presented as "old school"?"
Catascouts, what does it mean when you say "great clip?" What is a bad clip?
batumshockalocka 1 year ago
@batumshockalocka "great clip" means "this video clip was great"
a "bad clip" would be someone lip syncing to Brittney Spears.
