the general definition now for a planet is if it can clear it's orbit, you also have to consider how much dust may be in the systems Orot cloud, if it's big enough to be seen it's a planet at the very least
HOW IN THE WORLD are we able to see exoplanets, kuiper belt objects and planets in other galaxies but NO ONE not even the HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE can get a CLEAR resolution of PLUTO?????!!! Ridiculous!
@herpiethelovebug ya i know its not orbiting our sun, i meant, the guy says its as close to its sun, as saturn is to our sun.
so all planets outside our solar system are exoplanets? i dont think that's right...
from what i understood since i posted here, its a planet that was formed outside the solar system, or after the solar system creation process was over. then got moved into the suns orbit somehow.
@elmondark Its just a word to describe a planet not in our solar system. That's it. There is probably another word to describe an object that exhibits the behavior you describe. Unfortunately, I don't know what that word would be :)
I like to believe that science and religion fit together nicely. We evolved from sea creatures? The Garden of Eden was a coral reef. Other planets exist? God made them too. I hope you understand and don't want to throw me into a fire for what I believe in.
To be able to get from one side of the star to the other in just a couple years at that distance means it must be moving dozens of times faster through its orbit than Saturn.
If it's at the same distance as Saturn and takes only a couple of years to complete an orbit, then it's moving about 15 times faster than Saturn, which takes 30 years.

bloody hell! A video about astronomy that hasn't been filled with spam about electric star shite by that fertilizerspike moron! Though, I'm sure he'll turn up in time with his empty claims and lack of evidence.
@didjabringadidjalong It's probably too far away from us to be reached, and the objects around it are probably very dangerous, as well as the massive gravity on it, so i dont think thats a candidate for earth 2 :D
Have you ever noticed that Dr. J has the habit of moving his head to the left and then to the right while talking...I always smile when i see him on a video.
can be created within a few million years, this shows how scienitst fails real hard-they are without imagination. Why cant they imagine that the gasgiant is already formed as the star is formes and ignites which is more likely
They can imagine it, but it doesn't fit current scientific understanding of planetary formation, which is based on the laws of physics, not our imagination.
Scientists postulate (or "imagine") new theories or fine-tune existing theories and then they put these theories to the test, do they fit observed facts? If not, then it's most likely not a valid theory.
What you, or they, can imagine isn't conclusive, facts are.
@creamsykle .Can add more to already the thrust from the warming star must be dynamic and front must be made around the star where material falling in meets the trust from the star, anyway I find more likely that that sciensist looks for answers that fits them in their posistion as they progress though life
@BloodMired420: Assuming you stay the same distance from the planet's center, since the gravitation field produced by a body is g=GM/r^2, it would scale along with the amount of mass the planet has...now it remains to be seen what they mean by 8X "larger". I'd think the 8x larger refers to frontal surface area as seen from Earth. This means its radius is sqrt(8) times Jupiter's, and it's volume is ~22.6 times Jupiter's. Assuming similar densities, so is it's mass. Its gravity is ~23x stronger.
@K25125 alpha beta, delta are the relative magnitude of the stars in the constellation with alpha being the brightest. The "b" part is the second body of that stars system, usually a planet :)

i dont get it, exoplanets are planets outside the solar system right?
so if this planet is as close to the sun as saturn, why is it called an exoplanet?
if its orbiting its star, it shouldnt be called exoplanet.
so what am i missing?
elmondark 1 year ago
@elmondark Its not our sun. It circles another sun. Hence, exoplanet.
