America is in a slight decline, it is simply a guilded age go read a book or take an American history class. the one thing this guy got right was that history repeats itself, he just got the details wrong. also nothing is set in stone...
Read the book. These four and a half minutes do not give the book justice. We are so caught up in the "catastrophe" of the moment that we believe that the world is practically coming to an end. There are some moments in time that seem terrible but ultimately don't matter to the big picture because of geography, history, social cleavages, and so many other fixed circumstances that are out of our control -- this is what the book is about. We can argue forever about little events, but it's useless.
The world is already a multipolar one today let alone in 2050 when the US would not even have the largest economy, the US navy obviously does not "control" all the seas altho it might have some sort of presence on most this fact can clearly be seen in the inability to control piracy in alot of the worlds waterways, by 2050 alot of countries will have the economies and wherewhital to afford large navies and militaries which the US simply can't match, US hegemony barely lasted 10 years 1991-2001.
This whole book is just absurdity piled on top of absurdity. He misses one of the most influential pieces of history. And that's money. The book does not adress finance or money at all. And thats a massive oversight. Who's gonna pay for this US empire? Surely not the already bankrupt United States?
Not really convinced - although I haven't read the book. I suspect pundits embedded within an empire (as this guy seems to be) simply can't get enough distance to think the unthinkable - as in, America won't be the supreme power after 100 yrs (how many roman intellectuals thought they could fall? Even at the last?
Good point about Turkey, but the bit about orbital solar stations seems a bit like early predictions about the 21st century. Only tangentially relevant and very quaint.
Neo-Ottoman's are planning to fulfill their secret agenda which is theocracy in Turkey. As we secular Turks do not want to control Middle east. We want just peace. And most of us (only seculars) belive hamas is a terrorist formation. As always The USA has been doing is shooting its back yard. This what Friedman said is a tail. I afraid Lots of peole are going to die agin and again.
@199219931994S göreceğiz. this just a choice of being ignorant or lettered. dogs should go iran. People like you with inferiorety complex can live at iran istead of living european countries.
We are powerful then saudi arabia economy due to secularizm. They have oil we try to gain know how. I thing elit Jews and WASPs of the USA making the whole plan for the next decays to shape new world order. It is funny. They attempted to ruin good relationships between Israel and Turkey in that way they help rising fundementalism and radical groups in Turkey. Secularism in Turkey is the only fuse for Both Israel and Western countries. Neo-Ottomans are radical fundementalists.
I don't think Mexico will challenge the US; quite the contrary, I think Canada, the US and Mexico will become a single huge powerful country, the North American Union.
@ssgkillsuall Yeah, and the Mexican people won't let it happen either. And the Canadian people. Except, it's already happening. Look around you, are you blind?
fuck you your a fucking idiot "americas the greatest country in the world" "this book is about the decline of european power and the rise of american" EUROPE IS NOT A COUNTRY!!! AND!!! JUST BECAUSE THE COUNTRY AMERICA IS NOT IN EUROPE DOES NOT MEAN THAT IT IS A WESTERN COUNTRY AND HAS AN ALMOST IDENTICAL CULTURE TO FUCKING ENGLAND AND FRANCE AND ITALY AND GERMANY AND AUSTRALIA AND CANADA AND FUCKING NEW ZELAND!!!!!!! WHATEVER AMERICA CAN DO THESE COUNTRY'S CAN DO AS WELL MOTHER FUCKING AMERICAN!
@eatingbeansoup military and economic power, a very adaptive economy, a massive GDP and its highly adaptable military all make the United States a power unlike anything we have ever seen. It has access to two massive oceans making trade and defense from conventional forces easy and it has huge industrial and natural resource assets. The countries you listed are not going to be any less prosperous, its just that they will not have the same power that they had at the start of the 20th century.
this guy is blind to the fact that soon there will be no more countries that a global goverment comprised of three superstates with a world army is in the midst and everybody will be slaves to the elite
Well, since it's safe to assume average YouTube commenter is shortsighted, stupid, and underqualified, I'll have to give Friedman the benefit of the doubt. At least he admits that it's all speculation unlike some other know-it-alls.
MEXICO!!!!!!!!!!!! There is no dought in my mind that Mexico will be an important economic and political influence in the world. The conspiracy is that the U.S government is involved with the drug trade in an attenpt to keep Mexico unstable. But its only making Mexicans profesionals in urban warfare. wich can be used against the U.S. it self if need be.
Mexicans are very smart and they will propably rise to become an inportant economic and political power. With all the projected new immigration from Mexico due to U.S. labor needs, will end up leading the two countries together. Not only because of the cultural mix that we already see today but for the best interest of North America. It may start with conflict but when faced with external threats will unite. And the era of continental countries will begain.
I AM NOT STUPID I AM A FANATIC MAN !! IF I EVER GOT POWER YOU WOULD ALL BE UNDER ME LIKE HOW VLADIMIR PUTIN IS FUCKIN MOST NATIONS RIGHT NOW YOU CYPRIOT GREEK FOOL ASSHOLE TRAITOR ASS COWARD !!!
George Friedman means that Turkey ist the STRONGEST islamic country. It is the "USA" of the islamic world. Turkey has a very big and strong influence already now to the islamic countries, the prime minister Erdogan made this true, with Erdogan it is a beginning of a stronger, bigger Turkey in future.
But the question is: How more big will Turkey become in future?
But it should be enough for the WHOLE islamic world, for the WHOLE middle east.
Turkey was in defensive position and successfully preserved itself in the last 85 years, after losing WWI they could not find a chance to fix themselves because of colonized countries, after WWII cold war started and they found themselves right in the middle of cold battlefield.
Things changed, Russia lost he cold war, Europe is not a political power anymore, USA does not need to stay in the region, they are going back.
Most people underestimate the know how Turkey holds after thousands of years of imperial control and governing different nations in the region, it has extremely deep state culture. It is linked to everyone in the region, it has religious connection to Islamic countries, it has cultural connection to south Europe, it has historic and ethnic connection to central Asia. While colonist brainwashed southern Europe pretty well, even they feel much similar to Turks instead of central Europeans.
Turkey is both real home of Roman Orthodox Church that can be given its official status and they abolished caliphate, which also can be reinstated if needed. You comparing Turkey, a country that occupied most wanted, most central parts of the planet for thousands of years, that was almost always in its history was center of an empire, to few century old rookie states established wiping unarmed people living in the stone age, come on...
Georges Friedman is a dumbfuck ,Turkey has a 17 % unemployement and it depends highly on foreign investement. America has a huge economy crisis and if us economy is growing i wonder why its still doesnt shows.
@AnatolianFakeAltai2 So you think because things are bad now, that is how it is always going to be? One economic crisis can tank the U.S.? That seems a little short sighted. The U.S., in the past, over came multiple wars, The Great depression, and horrible pandemics. When the sun goes down, are you afraid that it will be dark forever?
@AsmodeanSDAJ Things have change today there is more people on the planet and the ressources are more limited then the old days, if the US recover its gonna take a longtime becuase of the huge debts. By the way the US debts is the biggest in the world. And please dont give me the GDP excuse i heard that so many times in the past. Recovery maybe but Americans gonna have to change there mentality before that happen. Dark forever maybe if your people dont change there way they see this world.
@Anatolian The US might have the greatest debts, but It also make the most money. It’s a cash flow thing. That would be like saying, well, the Roman Empire had the greatest number of poor people, things must have been horrible for them. Now, I’ll admit that the U.S. needs to change its mentality, but even if it doesn’t, the decline of the U.S. would likely occur over a 50 year period at the least. Limited resources typically mean the people with the Guns get the resources. Who has the Guns?
@AsmodeanSDAJ The Us might have a lot of money but it is borrow money that doesnt really belong to them and still the federal reserve is printing money with absolutly no values. People with Guns are people that have money and the US is in great need of foreign money. Tommorow super power will probably no be the US military power, even if you believe Friedman bullshit.
@AnatolianFakeAltai2 you cannot topple a world super power with a recession. the only way to do that is by destroying their ,cities, economy, and military power through warfare. all the states really has to do is wait patiently for china's banking system to collapse. what is it with people these days and shrieking about how 'the end is neigh' when the slightest recession hits? how about the next time there is some crisis, just sit down, take a deep breath, and have a glass of water.
@GUNSANDAWSOMENESS Well i am sorry to say this but before the chinese banking system will collaspe the one from the States will already be bankrupt a longtime ago trust me, dont think you understand the situation in the Western world, most Westerners countries have huge debts. This thing is getting worse then a crisis governement have to stop speading for usless wars and exagereted military spending like military base all over the world.
@AnatolianFakeAltai2 again, it takes more then a recession to bring low a world superpower like the states. the states have been through much worse, and much longer crisis' then this one. and I make my point again: the only way to bring down a super power is through military means, otherwise if it is truly threatened it can decide to stop playing by the rules and simply conquer everyone who opposes it.
@GUNSANDAWSOMENESS By the way, this thing you just said is thw opposite of democracy and the rest of the world are not suppose to be hostages of governements that cannot even manage there own economy. again i will say this recession is actually just starting. Anyway believe all the illusions you want but the results are gonna be the same at the end.
@piquantugur I hate turanist turk because they made trouble to me so i give them a taste of there own medicine, and i doubt that turks will be a strong country.
@piquantugur My grief is against Turkish Turanist and that hotblooded shit i dont give a fuck about it but peaceful people i dont attack them, but anyway if Turkish are so peaceful then why all there neigbours hate them.
@piquantugur Well not all Turks believe that and Turanist are for the most part anti-Westerner and also you dont seem to know how much problem turanist are causing on the internet.
@AnatolianFakeAltai2 just about 2 weeks ago a kurd blew up himself and injured 30 innocent people about 3 months ago kurd terorists blew up a bus carying kurdish villages including a baby.we build schools for kurds .they blows up them and kill teachers
@AnatolianFakeAltai2 we have to protect our country and people .what would you do if some foreigns come to canada and kills innocent people? believe me they are not even humans they can kill anyone
@AnatolianFakeAltai2 if canada was in mideast you would always have to fight too everything happens in this region and you cant really run from the issues
@AnatolianFakeAltai2 well whats done is done no one can change the past it is their choice to hate us.maybe you know our current foreign policy ''zero problems with the neighbors'' now our relations with our old enemies iran syria russia greece etc. are ok
@piquantugur well i hope is gonna last for long because if your looking for expansion again then i dont think the same scenario of history will happen.
@AnatolianFakeAltai2 uhh. We already have the top 10 strongest army in the world and 15th largest economy so we are strong... And we always were strong and will always be. And we are getting more and more powerful for each day... get your facts straight retard
@MrPedoShine Motherfucker you forgot to mention that actually you are the 17 world largest economy and if you are the 10 largest army it doesnt mean that your one of the most powewrful one most of your weaponry is still old specially your aviation and not to mention that Turkey doesnt have a verry good air defense. Your country has actually rightnow 11.4 unemployement. Antything you need to know fucktard i have not problem to give you fucking retard nationalistic brainwashe Turd....
@AnatolianFakeAltai2 you dumbfuck this video is 2 years old we were 17th largest economy back then but now were 15th which is a proof of our extremely fast growing economy. Also you fucking piece of shit our army uses state of the art technology. Our air force is extremely powerful. We have the 2nd largest F16 fleet in the world and we ordered 120 F35s so get your facts straight you PIECE OF SHIT!. We have one of the most money spending armed forces in the world. Get a life you armenian fucktard
@MrPedoShine Well cockbreath maybe this video was posted two years ago but the fact that your the 17th largest economy dates back from a year ago and the next report will only appear in january for the year 2010 idiot. Piece of garbage, your aviation is compose of F-16,F-4 and F-5 none of these airplanes can match most of the powerful fighters in the western world total retard and fucking piece of crap dumbass.
@AnatolianFakeAltai2 Well has for the F-35 yes Turkey has order many of them but still the western world already dont give much trust in a islamic coutry that is getting more and more anti-westerner dumfuck, and quit frankly i dont think you know much about this plane that we Canadians have also order piece of crap. Yes you spend a lot on the military this is why you coutry is not a democracy but more a faschist state dumbass and that is because you army was in need for new weaponery.
@AnatolianFakeAltai2 no your not you fucking nerd. your either a butthurt greek cos you were our slaves for 800 years or a armenian piece of shit who cries about the armenian "genocide" which is totally bullshit or a butthurt fag from another country that we fucked throughout the history and theres alot of those shit countries. I doubt that a candafaggot would make a channel like yours lmao
@MrPedoShine I am Canadian loser and bullshit is what you give for information cocksucker. And Canada is not a shot loser country dumfuck like your fucking country that is rich in the west coast but verr poor in the far eat your a joke lol
@AnatolianFakeAltai2 just gunna correct you on this one dumbfuck. Its VERY rich in the west... Istanbul would make your shitty canada country look poor cos canada is just full of retarded eskimos living in igloos. in Istanbul there are fucking luxury cars, buildings and skyscrapers everywhere. And 40 billionaires just in Istanbul. Fucking luxury car dealers all over the place with 2011 Ferraris and shit. And the F16 is an amazing aircraft if it wasnt USA would retire theirs lmao. So you FAIL!
@MrPedoShine Fake fuck i can see you have never been in Vancouver Toronto Calgary and so on Istanbul is verry rich indeed but there is many shothole in turkey idiot and i think Kurds would probably would love to live like the eskimos live today in Canada, i can see your full of shit thats for shurt we have all of what you said and probably more except for the size of your army. The F-16 is a good fighter but not the best fighter like you pretend just because you turks have that fighter You fail.
Turks are going to rise again..

@Khaagon nope in the next 10 years they will only be half the size economically as the United States
ssgkillsuall 11 months ago
Read the book. These four and a half minutes do not give the book justice. We are so caught up in the "catastrophe" of the moment that we believe that the world is practically coming to an end. There are some moments in time that seem terrible but ultimately don't matter to the big picture because of geography, history, social cleavages, and so many other fixed circumstances that are out of our control -- this is what the book is about. We can argue forever about little events, but it's useless.
vawver 1 year ago

I suspect the world is going to based around China. It's industrialisation is key to its success.
ProtectTheDamned 1 year ago

Pstnc 1 year ago
Mexicans are very smart and they will propably rise to become an inportant economic and political power. With all the projected new immigration from Mexico due to U.S. labor needs, will end up leading the two countries together. Not only because of the cultural mix that we already see today but for the best interest of North America. It may start with conflict but when faced with external threats will unite. And the era of continental countries will begain.

But it should be enough for the WHOLE islamic world, for the WHOLE middle east.

quetzaldl1 1 year ago
Turkey was in defensive position and successfully preserved itself in the last 85 years, after losing WWI they could not find a chance to fix themselves because of colonized countries, after WWII cold war started and they found themselves right in the middle of cold battlefield.
Things changed, Russia lost he cold war, Europe is not a political power anymore, USA does not need to stay in the region, they are going back.
utkua 1 year ago
Most people underestimate the know how Turkey holds after thousands of years of imperial control and governing different nations in the region, it has extremely deep state culture. It is linked to everyone in the region, it has religious connection to Islamic countries, it has cultural connection to south Europe, it has historic and ethnic connection to central Asia. While colonist brainwashed southern Europe pretty well, even they feel much similar to Turks instead of central Europeans.
utkua 1 year ago
Turkey is both real home of Roman Orthodox Church that can be given its official status and they abolished caliphate, which also can be reinstated if needed. You comparing Turkey, a country that occupied most wanted, most central parts of the planet for thousands of years, that was almost always in its history was center of an empire, to few century old rookie states established wiping unarmed people living in the stone age, come on...
utkua 1 year ago
Georges Friedman is a dumbfuck ,Turkey has a 17 % unemployement and it depends highly on foreign investement. America has a huge economy crisis and if us economy is growing i wonder why its still doesnt shows.

AnatolianFakeAltai2 1 year ago
@AnatolianFakeAltai2 So you think because things are bad now, that is how it is always going to be? One economic crisis can tank the U.S.? That seems a little short sighted. The U.S., in the past, over came multiple wars, The Great depression, and horrible pandemics. When the sun goes down, are you afraid that it will be dark forever?
AsmodeanSDAJ 1 year ago
@AsmodeanSDAJ Things have change today there is more people on the planet and the ressources are more limited then the old days, if the US recover its gonna take a longtime becuase of the huge debts. By the way the US debts is the biggest in the world. And please dont give me the GDP excuse i heard that so many times in the past. Recovery maybe but Americans gonna have to change there mentality before that happen. Dark forever maybe if your people dont change there way they see this world.
AnatolianFakeAltai2 1 year ago
@Anatolian The US might have the greatest debts, but It also make the most money. It’s a cash flow thing. That would be like saying, well, the Roman Empire had the greatest number of poor people, things must have been horrible for them. Now, I’ll admit that the U.S. needs to change its mentality, but even if it doesn’t, the decline of the U.S. would likely occur over a 50 year period at the least. Limited resources typically mean the people with the Guns get the resources. Who has the Guns?
AsmodeanSDAJ 1 year ago
@AsmodeanSDAJ The Us might have a lot of money but it is borrow money that doesnt really belong to them and still the federal reserve is printing money with absolutly no values. People with Guns are people that have money and the US is in great need of foreign money. Tommorow super power will probably no be the US military power, even if you believe Friedman bullshit.

AnatolianFakeAltai2 1 year ago
@AnatolianFakeAltai2 you cannot topple a world super power with a recession. the only way to do that is by destroying their ,cities, economy, and military power through warfare. all the states really has to do is wait patiently for china's banking system to collapse. what is it with people these days and shrieking about how 'the end is neigh' when the slightest recession hits? how about the next time there is some crisis, just sit down, take a deep breath, and have a glass of water.
GUNSANDAWSOMENESS 1 year ago
@GUNSANDAWSOMENESS Well i am sorry to say this but before the chinese banking system will collaspe the one from the States will already be bankrupt a longtime ago trust me, dont think you understand the situation in the Western world, most Westerners countries have huge debts. This thing is getting worse then a crisis governement have to stop speading for usless wars and exagereted military spending like military base all over the world.
AnatolianFakeAltai2 1 year ago
@AnatolianFakeAltai2 again, it takes more then a recession to bring low a world superpower like the states. the states have been through much worse, and much longer crisis' then this one. and I make my point again: the only way to bring down a super power is through military means, otherwise if it is truly threatened it can decide to stop playing by the rules and simply conquer everyone who opposes it.
GUNSANDAWSOMENESS 1 year ago
@GUNSANDAWSOMENESS By the way, this thing you just said is thw opposite of democracy and the rest of the world are not suppose to be hostages of governements that cannot even manage there own economy. again i will say this recession is actually just starting. Anyway believe all the illusions you want but the results are gonna be the same at the end.
