Saw Steve Winwood in Atlantic City, NJ last year in 2010 and he was fantastic ! and very unpretentious, a truly great musician. Opened for Santana and for me SW was a far better musician and a far better show.
Who says Cream or The Experience were the best trios? Traffic were far more versatile. And Winwood has the finest voice in all of rock in my opinion. Brilliant performance.
I found their secret cave where they obviously stashed their loot! When I asked him who he was he said just look behind. 40,000 headmen bit the dust!!!!!!!!!!! I have always been smitten by this artists words and music bring back the 60's & 70's.
I love everything about Traffic. Steve's vocals are amazing and Gentleman Jim's drumming is amazing but I really think their secret weapon is Chris Wood. That guy knows how to bring out the best in a song. The sax on 'Glad' should be proof enough of that.
One of my ALL TIME favourite songs...un-freakin' believable version...never saw this..excellent!!! That's gotta be Capaldi on drums. I think Winwood is playing the bass on keyboards...Just stripped down and fantastic!!
Steve Winwood's voice reminds me of Sam Moore of Sam & Dave. When i first heard Traffic, i certain that Sam Moore was the singer and not some white kid from England. Winwood is one of my favorite singers.
I thought Clapton was in traffic, too. No?

I love this version...these guys are GODS!!!
I don't even care if he messes the lyrics up at the end. In case anyone's interested (at 1:51)
"Well I turned around and forty thousand headmen bit the dirt
Firing twenty shotguns each and man, they really hurt
But luckily for me they had to stop, and then reload
And by the time they did that, I was heading down the road"
Sends shivers down the spine!!! Especially when sung by the king of white soul...you rule S.W.! Raw power!!

I swear Steve Winwood is BLACK AS HELL... I should know a little about this, I'm black myself. There's just too much rhythm in him not to be.

AHAHA that is funny because the first time I heard traffic I asked my dad if he was black.
