considering the F4 costs around 23-28 grand used where the s1000rr can be had more easily here in the states at a mere 15 grand, its definetly more suited for american sport bike riders. when was the last time you saw an F4 cruising dowtown in the states? very rarely, not many mv augustas are produced each year which drives the price up. this bmw is a nice bike for a great price, comparable to a 1098 but the duc costs twice what this one does.
I love the Japanese bikes, I really do. You would have to be silly though to think this bike can't compete with them. This is BMW's VERY first superbike and it's already putting away every other liter bike on the market. Stop being so pissy and thank BMW for raising the bar on the competition so we can see even greater bikes from everyone.

Sorry BMW but I will keep my 09 CBR 1000RR. That bike is not the best looking thing out there and for the price difference it isn't worth it. BMW brought this out knowing the 2012 revamp isn't out yet. Comparing this bike to the CBR is like splitting hairs,. You can talk all day but on the track the numbers do the talking. BMW has NOT done anything completely great, it is competitive. It is NOT ahead of anything rather right up there with them. I would put it in the CBR's class, which is #1

The Germans have beat the Japanese at their own game. This bike is a high tech miracle. Its what the R1, ninja, gixer and Blade should be if they weren't so preoccupied with sales figures. Its about time performance motorcycles caught up with the advancements happening in the performance car industry. I like my bikes hi-tech and by that I mean technology you can use on the street. What good is a cross plane crankshaft when 90% of sports bikes are ridden on the street?

The fact is that they don't call it the 1000RR listen carefully he does say S1000RR, MCN UK have nominated it to be the new KING of the HILL, out performed all the Japs in BHP, braking, and top speed. Now what will I get as a trade for my ZX-12R..?
Lets see, time will show all. Japanese and Italians are producing sport bikes long time before BMW so we will se what newbiee can do, so i dont think it will keep up with Japs or Italians, but if i wrong, that will be one of the best sport bikes in the world and great succes by BMW motorrad.
i hope so...otherwise they will have a glaring hole in their Supersport segment...They should consider that, and making a 13/1400cc bike to compete with the Zx14 and hayabusa aswell...do i think they will? No. Do i wish they would? Yes.
Sport homologated bikes come in 2 sizes 600 and 1000 cc (except that they allow 2 cylinder bikes up to 1200cc such as Ducati to compete in litre class because they don't put out as much HP.)
The 1300 and 1400cc production bikes are mostly a sport touring bike.
BMW makes 1300 cc Sport touring bike that I consider superior to the Hyabusa. It is a ton more expensive, but that is because it has all the farkle that one would expect of BMW plus a shaft drive.
They also have a GT version of that bike with a ton of farkle on it including a big windshield and saddlebags. It's slightly less power, but a modification to the air box will fix that.
Any of the new top sport touring bikes have a top end of 160 +,
meh japs have been developing sportsbikes for decades, dunno if the germans are gonna pull it off in a year, having said that, it is a nice looking bike

I'm already on the list and will have mine in Thunder Grey Metallic with DTC and ABS. Forget the quick shift though as it didn't get good reviews in the HP2. Delivery should be in March but I'm stuck in Iraq through June. Can't wait to get home and ride!!
I think the mistake many of us are making is to think about this in terms of other, older BMWs. This is not a touring bike, or a sports-tourer for old men. It should be seen in the same class as the R1; GSXR; ZX10R; CBR-RR; RSV4; 1198 etc. That's the class BMW are aiming at, and they are not aiming to come in as an also-ran. They want to be at the top of the group, in every particular.
Have they achieved that? Well, the jury is out - but it's looking pretty good so far.
I don't think it's the most attractive bike, but I agree it's better than the current R1. It's distinctive without being ugly. Streets ahead of anything with stacked headlights.
Wayne Gardner said it was far better than he expected in many ways. It is a match (or more than) for any standard road bike in handling, power, quality and ease of use. He particularly praised the handling and the engine management and throttle control, the modes and so forth.
Add all the extra features the BMW has to your R1 and it wil cost more then 3k dollars. The difference in price is there because the BMW has better brakes, suspension and lotsm ore. Its an out of the box trackbike unlike the R1 where u have to put cash in the suspension and brakes to make it track worthy.

At 28 more HP and lighter weight than the R1, it will blow that bike away.
As to competition, BMW have been running the bike in world Superbike competitively for the last year. First year out not all that bad.
That color is hideous. fortunately they have a red, white, blue race replica color available as well as an anthracite.
Probably means that the hideous green will be a collector's desire in a few years.

i hope so...otherwise they will have a glaring hole in their Supersport segment...They should consider that, and making a 13/1400cc bike to compete with the Zx14 and hayabusa aswell...do i think they will? No. Do i wish they would? Yes.

Sport homologated bikes come in 2 sizes 600 and 1000 cc (except that they allow 2 cylinder bikes up to 1200cc such as Ducati to compete in litre class because they don't put out as much HP.)
The 1300 and 1400cc production bikes are mostly a sport touring bike.
BMW makes 1300 cc Sport touring bike that I consider superior to the Hyabusa. It is a ton more expensive, but that is because it has all the farkle that one would expect of BMW plus a shaft drive.

They also have a GT version of that bike with a ton of farkle on it including a big windshield and saddlebags. It's slightly less power, but a modification to the air box will fix that.
Any of the new top sport touring bikes have a top end of 160 +,

I'm already on the list and will have mine in Thunder Grey Metallic with DTC and ABS. Forget the quick shift though as it didn't get good reviews in the HP2. Delivery should be in March but I'm stuck in Iraq through June. Can't wait to get home and ride!!

I think the mistake many of us are making is to think about this in terms of other, older BMWs. This is not a touring bike, or a sports-tourer for old men. It should be seen in the same class as the R1; GSXR; ZX10R; CBR-RR; RSV4; 1198 etc. That's the class BMW are aiming at, and they are not aiming to come in as an also-ran. They want to be at the top of the group, in every particular.
Have they achieved that? Well, the jury is out - but it's looking pretty good so far.

I don't think it's the most attractive bike, but I agree it's better than the current R1. It's distinctive without being ugly. Streets ahead of anything with stacked headlights.
Wayne Gardner said it was far better than he expected in many ways. It is a match (or more than) for any standard road bike in handling, power, quality and ease of use. He particularly praised the handling and the engine management and throttle control, the modes and so forth.

Add all the extra features the BMW has to your R1 and it wil cost more then 3k dollars. The difference in price is there because the BMW has better brakes, suspension and lotsm ore. Its an out of the box trackbike unlike the R1 where u have to put cash in the suspension and brakes to make it track worthy.
