those who have questions about Bono's singing haven't heard U2 well.
I mean listen to the songs like sunday bloody sunday, a sort of homecoming, where the streets have no name, with or without you, one, lemon, beautiful day and hundreds of other songs.
The Edge IS u2 now.. Bono is lost somewhere in selfrighteousness and confusion or other such place. But this man really functions as required. Good ol' Edge. Got to love him.
An incredible song form an amazing band like U2. Edge has such a lovely voice. Shame we can't hear him sing more often. "Love is blindness" is one of the greatest songs ever written and this version brought tears to my eyes. U2 <3

The Edge is a beautiful singer in his own right. Sure he doesn't have the range of Bono but they sound like brothers with the Edge's voice being a softer version of Bono's. As an illustration, if you go way back to the song 'Seconds' from their War album, the Edge singes the entire opening section with Bono not coming in until after the first "Fall, rise and...fall, rise and...". Not many people even realise its the Edge singing.

The interplay between them on Seconds is pure gold.
ofcourse he sounds a lot like bono, he has been backing him up for a lot of years, and making bono sound better for just as long. and he has to sound like bono because otherwise it would distract the audience from bono's singing. so it's not really shocking that his singing sounds a lot like bono's.
people who are a fan of adele, start singing her songs, right?
after a year or so, when she is writing her own songs, you can hear the adele influence in their voice, it's only natural!

okay, i dont understand this BONO-EDGE comparison/competition. each an individual that together is beyond dynamic. EDGE doesnt have the showmanship of BONO. BONO doesnt have the instrumental compassion/emotion of the EDGE. i too cannot get enough. deff the highlight of the film.
Edge and bono sound similar cause they sing together and they are both tenors from Ireland although edge is welsh he sounds Irish when he sings. Any well versed U2 fan knows that edge is the engine that drives U2, the only thing Bono does all by himself is song writing and even some of those are with edge or the band. Anyway this is an awesome film. and an even more awesome band. U2 forever.

Bono is Bono with a reason. Edge sings great, no doubt, but he hasn't got the wide range like Bono. He can sing in this voice and a bit higher too, but that's all. Bono has a wide range, he can go, or at least he could go, from the deep voice on Exit, to the falsetto on Lemon. He has the ridiculous passion in his voice and without that (alos, it's not the only reason!), U2 wouldn't be where they are now.

So many times I get confused bono's voice with the one of the Edge. He has such a beautiful voice sometimes I think they should switch roles in a band,,,just for a diversity's sake:-)

While listening to U2's older albums, it's almost impossible for me to tell Bono's and the Edge's voices apart. They go so well together, but I do love it when the Edge gets to go solo. This video is up there with 'Van Diemen's Land'.

@wackinstack Funny, I seem to remember reports that Edge and his brother had been frantically practicing guitar, to become musicians. When Larry started a band, Bono was just looking for way to (loudly) express himself. Whichever way it went, they turned out alright. Even Edge's brother.
@wackinstack Apparently, Edge has been able to sing well for a long time. In the book U2 by U2, the band talks about how in one of their earlier gigs, the dancing girls came to Edge before the show and begged him to sing instead of Bono, because "Bono can't sing." I wonder where those dancing girls are now.... But yeah, Edge has had a lovely voice since he was a teen.

While listening to U2's older albums, it's almost impossible for me to tell Bono's and the Edge's voices apart. They go so well together, but I do love it when the Edge gets to go solo. This video is up there with 'Van Diemen's Land'.

@Batgirlgl I remember when I first got into U2; I loved Van Diemen's Land. Totally thought it was Bono singing. Even in Miracle Drug when The Edge sings that one part, it really does sound like Bono! No wonder why they sound so great live.

@tsteffes If you haven't already seen a documentary-film entitled "It might get loud", you must see it. The film is about guitars and the history of guitarists including different styles of musicians and their effects and inspirations to new generations of guitarists. It stars Jimmy Page, The Edge and Jack White. -Three musicians who could not be more different in their playing. It's incredible and I heartily recommend it to you.

@Cloxxki Hey it could very well be from so many years jamming together. It wouldn't surprise me if he learned to sing from Bono, he is a remarkable singer and could most likely teach anyone to sing.
Whatever it may be, I'm just happy to hear the music of U2. I'm so glad they never broke up like so many other great bands out their.

@wackinstack Funny, I seem to remember reports that Edge and his brother had been frantically practicing guitar, to become musicians. When Larry started a band, Bono was just looking for way to (loudly) express himself. Whichever way it went, they turned out alright. Even Edge's brother.

@wackinstack Apparently, Edge has been able to sing well for a long time. In the book U2 by U2, the band talks about how in one of their earlier gigs, the dancing girls came to Edge before the show and begged him to sing instead of Bono, because "Bono can't sing." I wonder where those dancing girls are now.... But yeah, Edge has had a lovely voice since he was a teen.

Edge's voice is not one bit edgey. I think it is quite calmer than Bono's although they sound so similar.
