Didn't realize that this would generate some discussion on what,at the surface, seems trivial. Anyway for the record, I don't barre it but have always used the Middle & ring finger on the opening 2 notes and slide...yes slide, up with the ring finger for the subsequent note.

It's just a thread on the APM forums where a few of the guys are working on the song and one of 'em asked for some tips on playing the first measure.

I bet the slide works well for that part - I'll have to look at that!

I hope you didn't take my comment about it being trivial as to be rude scott, I guess I really hadnt given much thought as to how to best play this. I've seen it posted that the correct technique for the right sound is to Barre the second fret and hammer on to the fourth fret of the third sting and then the third fret of the second string before pulling off on the second fret of the first string.

I guess what ever phrasing works best for individual player is the key...I suppose.

No, I didn't think you were being rude at all. I just wanted to clarify that the ongoing APM forum discussion is about the entire song and learning to play it - not simply the best way to play the first measure.
