I run a stock uniden pc68xl with a wilson power mic goin through a 102 inch whip, I got in a real open feild the other day and shot a skip to kansas(I live in Georgia)

Its not a easy as doing it on a big radio(my base its easy) but if you catch it just right, it is possible.

I takes way more than just pure power to talk well. I have heard a guy using 8 element beam on a 100 foot with a 100 watts talk all over guys runing over 10.000 watts on the bowl. Antenna and coax is everything!

those 2000gtl cbs are great radios i had i moded iput in 26nz band nz and 27oz freq worked great 73,s from new zealand tomcat new zealand my call sign rick..
