  • Even in the so called golden era there were wack artists but the funny thing about nostalgia is, we tend to block out all the unfavorable things & only really remember the good ones.

I listen to WAY more artists now than I did back then. I was set on a select few. Now? I'm all up in Cali, Detroit, NC, TX, All over the map wit it! Times change, people change, industries & practices change. Dope never does! If you tune out the weak & filter what you listen to (aka NO RADIO) you good!

  • I agree with what you're saying in principle but honestly I think there is another golden age in hip-hop and it's right now. Think about it. Hip-hop got stagnant for a few years, fell off which led to the phrase "hip-hop is dead" but there was a resurgence after that and it spawned a LOT of new crazy talented artists! We now have more variety of dope MC's than ever before. and on top of that better sound quality! The golden age is now it just went underground!

  • Some day there will be another golden age for hip hop, and all this mainstream shit will go down. Atleast i hope so.

  • oh its comming back. J.cole,Wale, Jay eletronica, Blu and you still have good people like common, jay z, eminem , reakwon and such putting out decent material

  • perhaps you could enlighten me, a brief elaboration of this golden age of rap?

  • ok jay z sucks but i agree that hip hop is dead

  • Man i subscribed to you. can you do me a favor and check me out. i'll try not to waste too much of your time. Check out Negative Energy

  • @ixi0DeeCee0ixi Alright man. I'll check it out.

  • Old school rap will never sell like it used too sadly.

  • Will there ever be another rap group? What happened to rap groups?

  • i don't think hip hop will ever be revived into the mainstream medias, but i also don't think it matters because real hip hop lovers know where it's all at i meen it's not on the radio but just thank god it's still around even if it's underground

  • MY FAV RAPPERS WHEN I WAS A KID WAS KRISS KROSS THEY WERE SO DOPE VSES THE RAPPERS OUT NOW LOL

  • oh the real....i have no idea to be honest, we can only hope. Now their is new upcoming dudes like fashawn, jay electronica (i know he's a bit older and got only a good 5 yrs at the most but lets enjoy him while he's still here & hungry) j. cole, mickey factz, emilio rojas, blu, yelawolf, big krit, skewby, horse shoe gang (slaughterhouse's crooked i's bros), currensy, xv and freddie gibbs are reppin REAL hip hop but the million dollar question is...will the mainstream audience take big notice?

  • IT STARTED WITH SOULJA BOY!! HE STARTED THE HIP HOP APOCALAPSE!!

  • hip hop isnt dead, it just moved underground.

  • word bro..peace and love

  • Man I with you on that.....there was a time I watched B.E.T but like you said they play garbage music everyday. Thats why I listen to underground muisc :) good video man

  • I wanna golden age back!!! Classic hip-hop is da best! But America is no more like it was b4. I'm still listening only to '89-'00 hh. Peace.

  • Dude it will come back. I can feel it. Give it time

  • @TruPoetz, Mb it will, but I doubt... :(((( It's my dream, lol. I wanna all those HH parties back again, and all that shit...

  • I believe it will come some day, this autotune shit is getting terrible unoriginal, soon the idiot mob will get enough brains to realise it sucks and then they will stop listening. Getting good shit back into the mainstream is the big problem, we need them to do something great that just freaks everyone out.

  • yup its goin on rite now, u outta the loop son

  • Lupe Fiasco is all i gotta say

  • this guy thinks like me what happened to hip hop D:

  • I'm sorry to say, but the Golden Age will never return; corporate interests will not allow it.

  • i bought an xm radio bcuz of all the trash i hear on regular radio, the only new mc that i'm feeling is j.cole, but if it wasent for xm radio i would have no idea who he is, this was before he made his debut on the blue print 3. the shit that wayne and gucci mane and soldier boy are doin needs to be a different genre of music, it's trash!

  • "The Golden Age can return, people just need to wake up. Right now, the teenagers own the rap industry and think that it's Hip-Hop when it really isn't. If The Golden Age would return, it means we educated the masses about Hip-Hop culture."

  • theres only 50 000 heads that are true to this, the rest are clueless to what real hip hop music is.

Nothin like that Boombap 90's golden age old school hip-hop. All my friends insist on that mainstream weezy garbage. Its not even worth arguing anymore they just dont get it.

  • Comment removed

  • exactly my guy.

rap has changed hella. i remember listnin to 50 in like 98 along with nas & jada/ the lox & dmx, royce da 5'9 an even eminems underground shit,

an now a days i juss look back on it like dam. things change. an i NEVER listen to the radio no more either. i mean back in the day every song that came out was good. now a days theres like 1 or 2 every 5 months

  • the world has gone retarded with "lollipop" and "lol smiley face" .......

  • i say it 1million times any rap after 2001 is not rap it is shit

  • except underground!

  • They will never be another golden age in Hip Hop! but remember the golden age of Hip Hop gave birth to NAS, Biggie, Wu Tang, Buck Shot, Jeru, Jay Z, Mobb Deep, AZ, Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, GangStar, Onyx, MOP, DITC, Large Professor, Organized Confuzion, U M.C's, Snoop and Dre etc etc.

  • wu tang

  • hey carl at least we still have underground rappers

  • I've noticed how a lot of Asian rappers are much more talented then the mainstream rappers these days....

  • i don't think so. I think it ran its course. It will certainly influence new music styles though.

  • i think the record labels have been purpusely been changing art of hip hop over time to turn it into a product which will appeal to more people bring more money, that's why we see rappers out like lil wayne, hurricane chris, lil boosie, mims, rick ross(i'm sick of hearing "i'm a boss" that shit was played out after his first ten songs) new commercialized hip hop product is what sell so I doubt that we will see a change in that unless people stop investing their money on these ridicoulous artists

  • no

    faggots killed our best

    tupac after mike tyson fight

    biggie got shot

even michael jackson gets murdererd by a stupid doctor

    music sucks now

R.I.P tupac, biggie, MJ all legends

  • Mj killed himself, if he had told the doctor that he was already on pills then he wouldnt be dead

  • @925bayareapinoy

As much as I like dPac and Biggie they did a lot to destroy Hip-Hop and were actually the beginnings of a lot of bullshit (The fake East Coast-West Coast war, constant beefing, etc.).

There may be another Golden age of Hip-Hop, but we can't leave it up to the Major Labels because they're clueless and they don't give a shit about Hip-Hop.

It's all in the hands of the independent now.

  • well those days are done...we can still listen to them, most of them are still touring...its just like rock n roll in the 60s and 70s....music just changes over time....haha and it changed for the worse in the case of hip hop

  • The Goldenage was once in a life time. It's done. At least we have their music to remember it

  • It's happening now. The hip hop yr looking for is everywhere, we as people just need to open are eyes.

  • I completely disagree there won't be another golden age of hiphop. I BELIEVE THERE WILL BE ANOTHER GOLDEN AGE where there are rappers out there that are fans of the 90s hiphop can put their hardcore lyrics down on nice beats we have today. There will be another golden age. Patience is all we need

  • sucks being 16 now!

  • Maybe. I think you need to focus on other places. Canada has some great hip hop artists that make the top of the charts in Canada but get no play in the states.

for example check out artists like K-Os, Shad, Prince Ali, Classified, Shaune Booth and so on

  • i completely agree with you i dont think hip hop is dead but i do think its dying...

  • Unfortunately,no with the way things are now hip hop has no future.Jay-Z and Nas can't babysit for these kids forever.

  • The answer is No.. The way music is today it is manufactured PURPOSELY to be whack and dumb down the population , look at all genres,, people like lady gaga, lil wayne... they all shit but they have millions of followers..people Aka are brainwashed

  • agree tribecalledquest15, today music is only busniess and to control people. its all commercial, it has nothing to do with reality or feelings someting like 2pac,rakim,TCQ,pharcyde rap about. not only with hip hop but same with any genre like you said. i dont think music from the mainstream will ever change but the underground music will keep coming up

  • i can answer that question right now

    hell no

  • U not going 2 hear it on the radio that's 4 sure. U know how they used 2 have that saying "the revolution will not be televised?" With Clear Channel owning all the stations, u better believe it. Stay tuned 2 the underground, we past due 4 one of those tipping points culturally, so great things MIGHT be on the horizon soon...

  • so true

  • again i agree there will never be another golden age and i think its because the standers of hip hop have really gone done. Like when big and pac were around you had to be good to make it the bar was so high like jadakiss and bone thugs. now all you need is a dance you can even take other dances and make them in to one big dance like soulja boy and people like it. I guess the bar is not that high the kids dont really understand what we mean by say this shit suck cause our rap had to be good

  • So, I know I have talent because he came to me to collaborate on a song but, as far as answering the question. Yes there can and will be another Golden Age of Hip Hop. I have faith and plan on being apart of the solution to that problem. There is No doubting on my side of the computer.

    Real Hip Hop Always!

  • This is the first video on youtube where I actually read every single comment because the topic was/is very important. I'm a rapper mainly a lyricist and I find lyrics to be very important as well as the message in the song. Like most of you have said people are doing it for the money and not for an outlet of what's happening in the community. If you love real hip hop like me or you do music lets network, write and discuss how to solve this. I got a song coming out with a famous producer.

  • I feel you.I honestly just don't know.

  • If People Like Common, Talib Kweli, Q-tip or Slick Rick start to get commercialized a little bit, maybe we could have something, there will never be another golden age, but maybe we could have a silver age ;D

  • seems they are a bit too commercialized as it is now.

  • no i dont think so cuz everyone plays commerical bullshit to make money and people buy in to it

  • yep i totally agree with u.

  • Yeah I like the 20th century hip hop/rap.

  • I think there will be another golden age of hiphop I grew up on the 90s hiphop and music today is not what it use to be but stuff like autotune will play out just like crunk music did .

  • great video man. im gonna subscribe.

  • Thanks man, it means alot.

  • i believe there is a small chance it can come back strong. if eminems part two of his album is good enough we got dres coming out soon, if 50 can go back to him old self maybe we can start 2 pull out of this commercial hip hop age. were also gunna need some new stuff from nas too because he's as close 2 old rap as we got

  • It's very simple to bring back the golden age. You have to get enough MC's to challenge the current trend. For instance in the 90's the word Player was reborn, SouthernPlayalistic, Players Ball, etc. Big killed it with Still Not a Playa. Somebody has to kill the THUG ~ make a video about the Hype Shit of today, for the future rappers. Make rap mature and fun again. Also back in 90's the DJ had to be MORE talented than the RAPPER, the DJ was the foundation with the BEATS and PRODUCTION.

  • Thanks for your thoughts!

  • @carloctave are you a nas fan?

  • @1992lance Of course! He's one of my all time favorites!

  • @carloctave my top 3:1.Tupac (duh!!!; :P) 2.Rakim 3.Nas. Yours?

  • @1992lance Are you asking me about my top 3 favorites or are you asking me about my top 3 all time?

  • @carloctave faves.

  • @1992lance 2Pac, Nas, and 3rd place is a BUNCH of rappers. I can't decide...lol.

  • @carloctave name one dude.

  • @1992lance Elzhi.

  • @carloctave nate dogg fan?

  • @1992lance Yeah. I was really sad when he died.

  • @carloctave It's a shame. Are you an illuminati believer?

  • @1992lance Yes, I believe in the Illuminati. Do you?

  • @carloctave Why not......

  • @carloctave i think i should get this off my chest: i must say i truly apologize that i actually liked soulja boy 4 years ago. i'm so sorry and i regret liking it. i've been a 90's fan since just february, but i can't stand mainstream.

  • @1992lance Glad to see that you made the right choice.

  • @carloctave This may sound silly, but it feels like a sin. If you can forgive and forget, things would be perfect.

  • @carloctave oh, and there's still good music (lupe, cudi, mac miller, etc) but it's just not the same.

  • @BennyCorleone i agree with you, im one of those MCs who challenge current trend wack rappers

  • i think lil jon fucked everything up.

  • dont listen to ayo for yayo because that song sucks and he is only featured in the song its not his song you might know him by another name like dre dog

  • Yo man try andre nickatina he is hella good in my opinion

  • Eminem is back maybe he can save hiphop a little bit

  • mainstream is killin hip hop

it aint dead and theres still really dope MC's out there but shit if we dont do somethin bout it now then hip hop will die and the younger generations will start thinkin artists like wayne and soulja boy is real hip hop coz thats what they see on tv.. its ashame man we need another golden age of hip hop

  • You know what's frustrating. I've had to sit in my car while my friends tell me how terrible my new Q-Tip album is and then listen to them talk about how much they like the new Gucci Mane song. it made me want to run my car into a ditch.

  • Yeah, I know what you mean.

  • @bkr0127 u should told'em look in my car we listen what i want, in yo car whatever, but in mines it's tip, or u get yo ass da hell out in walk, fuck out of here talking about gucci mane with his retarded rapping ass lol, ay but that justme dawg, they zip it or they walk.

  • @bkr0127

hahahaha what a bunch of typical braindead idiots, no offense to your friends.

  • Good hip-hop is not on main stream, all of it is on the Underground!

  • everything that begins with lil or young sucks

  • Lyricism is dying and if the cycle contiues the game will be run by these mindless bullshit artists.

Down in ATL we only have a handful of MCs with REAL talent. T.I., Andre 3000, Ludacris..... and thats pretty much it. But yet the ATL spawns about 100 new shit rappers a year. They catch on with the mindless spread, and pollute rap.

Bottom line, real talent is out numbered by pop rap. For every Jadakis there is 20 Soulja boys and for every Lupe Fiasco there is 30 Gucci manes. I miss hip hop

  • Im from ATL..... and i believe the problem stemed from the south and "crank dat " songs. Down here, i have to deal with shit rappers all around me like Guccie mane, Soulja boy, O.j the juice, and all those otha ringtone rappers.

Record execs have seen that kids are easily influenced by simple beats and new dances from the south. They have seen how much cash it pulls in so they ignore MCs with talent and use fad rappers like SB to make quick cash, then dump them to move to the next fad.

  • Okay, I agree with this. If you were to compare the LOX with Cash Money, people would say Cash Money is better, because they have more KNOWN songs. But if you get people who LISTEN to the LYRICS and not the song, the LOX would have ALOT more votes. I mean honestly, this kid AcidTripy saying 'Money is better than Talent' then how come nobody gets money unless they have talent...besides when MTV plays one video 15 thousand times a day.

  • but what trips me out is that i watch so many videos, so many of us agree that mainstream is bullshit.... then why isnt anyone doin anything about it? if lil wayne is gonna make a rock album, anything is possible.... i wish pac was here

  • im a MC myself and im doing sumthing about it. But the problem is that there just isnt enough artists that do something about it.

  • no, reason being to many garbage comercial rappers....

  • The answer is simply NO.

    Money > Talent.

  • theres not cuz now we goin backwords like rap is gettin worse instead of better cuz all these no talent fucks are rappers now

  • there is a golden age in hiphop its in da underground

  • all of you who think hip hops dead right now, turn off the mtv, get out of your fuckin rooms and go see some shows. where theres shit on the mainstream, you know there is always talent underground.

  • what i think hip hop is kinda like a basketball game and right now is the halftime

  • I don't know if Golden Age Hip Hop will come back, but history has taught us to never say never.

  • I think history has told us to appreciate our contemporary greats, because GOOD music can fade in a second. Personally I bought Nas's last album and I plan to buy Relapse, as a foray of this generally shitty period of Lil Wayne/Soulja Boy rap. If Hip Hop does reach the standards that it once did, we should appreciate it, and maintain it as long as possible.

  • No, the industry controls music and music is intended to be stupid to dumb down people. Its part of the illuminati agenda. Look at the Masonic symbols in the videos. Look on the back of a dollar.

Cannibus is my #1 of all time and is a prime example of a real artist who got shitted on by the industry.

  • probably cause almost all great rappers died. big pun, big l, biggie, tupac,

  • i know what u mean there is still some good rappers i mean look at 3 5 mafia lil wyte but theres alot of underground shit thats gunna stay underground until these lil kiddie fucks that think the radio is the only good music around go away, but lil wayne does have his songs but there aint enough good ones to be conciterd the best rapper alive like tech n9ne says cuz most of these rappers got a queer eye for the straight guy

  • yea man i totally agree wit u. all them rappers like lil wayne, t-pain, soulja boy,and most of the 1s they play on the radio r all fuckin wack. there are many good artists out there that true hiphop fans listen 2.but i love the 90s, that was the best era wit dr. dre, 2pac, biggie, nate dogg, oh by the way what ever happend to nate dogg bein featured on all the hit songs, they were all good, instead we got fake ass t-pain wit that voice altering shit. all the voice altering needs 2 stop

  • i dont see soulja boy as a rappa but i have fun with his songs.

  • I don't think that there's gonna be another golden age, just because real hip hop doesn't make you money, and making money is today's top priority, but I gotta say, a lot of unknown cats out there still spit straight fire, and some comercialized, like Lude, game, common, and others.

  • Listen to Rugged Intellect and Elzhi if you wanna hear something new but hot. Elzhi has been around for a while but is very low key, and extremely lethal on the mic.

  • I know who Elzhi is, he's a beast with lyrics, but I'll search for the other one.

  • I feel ya!!!

  • old skool fans better respect the new skool

new skool kids need to respect the old skool

old skool dudes generated and created hiphop to the maximum extent

u can only ask the new skool dudes to carry on tradition

like cmon its only been less than 53 years since hiphop was even invented

    and hiphop is already dead??

    NAAAAAAH

rock did more than that so did jazz

  • top best rappers ALIVE in my oppinion not in this order. These guys could fully bring back hip hop to what it used to be.

    Jay z, eminem

    Method man

    immortal technique

black thought from "the roots" (favorite)

    nas

    andre 3000

    common

    dr dre, snoop, ice cube.

If these guys kept rapping and recruited new talent then my answer is YES. Oh yeah and lil wayne. but he would have to snap out of his new ways.

  • dude lil wayne cannot bring back hiphop the way it used to be man

  • Im starting a radio station at my college and im going to play all that old school shit and talk about how they influenced music its going to be soo sick. Another golden age? Im not sure. But im sure there will be plenty of sick new rappers coming up who will make crazy good music. rap moves on to the year 3000.

  • I have no idea why people seem to think Lil Wayne is the best rapper ... He is far from it seeing as i know hundreds of underground rappers who are so much better than posers like Soulja Boy and Lil Wayne. I Don't think there will be a golden age again because the rappers in the day are going to be remembered forever and no one is going to be at the top with them. There might be someone who elevates hip hop again but it won't be anywhere close to what it used to be.

  • I just made partner!!!! The only unsigned rapper that I know of...a YouTube partner! Maybe there IS hope!

  • the answer is no. the shit is dead and done man. has been for like 5 years now. hiphop is basically pop now. youre only as ill as your last electronica dance hit. hiphop went to shit when rappers were judged by how much money they have instead of how much talent they have

  • it will be a bit better this year then the last few year's

cus eminem, dre, fifty they all got albums coming out soon and there is going to be more diss track's so people will been responding to them so not ''how it was'' but beter then the last few years

  • Apparently u didnt get what he said. No matter how they "doin they thang" no matter any of dat shit, their music is still garbage and thats that.

  • dude corey gunz,TI and drake, those guys are wack, there not staying true to the game, right now its the underground artist who provide the real hip hop

  • well I listen to ti old albums I know that you probably love the 90s hiphop I do to but man I said ti becuase I feel he a good rapper to me he might be wack to you but to me he not .

  • It's hard to say because I don't know if anybody saw this ear of weakness coming.I'm only 18 so it's hard for me to reflect on the history of hip-hop.I have knowledge but not expirience.I can say this tho, I don't think that real hip-hop will ever die out. There will always be true heads who do it out of love and not money.

  • They're will be...but today most artist only go for that ringtone shit that will make them more money than a gold album...

Murs, The Game, Cypress Hill need to bring this shit back...as well as Ice Cube!

  • I'm glad you made this video, Common makes REAL hip hop, I'm glad you recommended him cause I didn't hear ,much of his stuff before. THANKS!

  • You're welcome.

  • For the most part...yeah but his last song was wack.

  • Will there ever be another Golden Age of Hip Hop? ....damn that's interesting question I hope there would be but like he said in the video there is some doubt...what i do hope is that these Underground Emcee's would get the same exposure as the mainstream one's do

  • we still would have great rappers like tupac and biggie (the originals) but to men e of dem died already i dont know why people keep killin the rappers that make it to the top

  • well, bro, got to admit biggie, snoop, big pun and too short, etc got their age...now Nas and Common still making good shit, u can see...u also got The Game and Ludacris...hwver I just sometims hear to Kanye West and Jay-Z and find it good...just looks, Dj's like DJ Khaled just gets together what would u call good rappers and those who aren't..take a look...good opinion though

  • Yo it all happen when the white producers thought that rap was profitable so they bought young rappers and made money by selling dump easy marketable hip hop. Yo thats ill you giving a shoutout to AZ definitely an underrated rapper. Also Technique is probably the best rapper right now.

  • I agree to a 100% man!

  • I feel your frustration man. Hip hop isn't dead but it's definitely on life support. I'm sure you've heard the analogy but it's like what happened with rock in the 80's. Spandex and big hair and all about money and sex.. no substance. I guess money will do that to people. All you can do nowadays is keep your ear to the underground.

  • I don't think it so... nowadays Rap is a fuckin shit homie, but it ain't dead cuz there are some good rappers still...

  • thank you,

maybe its age but to me hip hop has lost it

  • I def feel you on that. Hip-hop ain't what it used to be. I feel like I'm stuck in my childhood 'cuz I mostly listen to hip-hop from the 90s. I ain't a 50 fan, Wayne fan and I don't like that autotune shit that's on a lot of major rappers' songs. Don't have much choice but to take it back to the 90s and further back.

  • there will never be another 2pac or another eazy e this kind of things happens once in history

good video i totally agree wit u

  • Well said...Right to the piont..

  • mtv bullshit

    its all poison man

what Nas did with hiphop is dead was to open eyes

  • who knows but currently its impossible if rappers like biggie & pac were alive faggots like soulja boy never could ever be recognized

  • never again, get out your old CDs......

  • Money homie, money is what happened. Hip Hop aint about music anymore, it's just about selling ring tones and records and making pop music. People are stupid enough to let business men fool them. These rappers are nothing but business men in costumes. It's all good though, deep down inside we all Hip Hop heads know this shit aint gonna last for ever. Keep ya head up homie.

  • i agree man the radios and bet they are not the same back then when they used to play real hip hop.

  • Thanks.
