Seriously, how can this get some much negativity?! Seriously, this guy is doing amazing things in Bangladesh which we should be supporting and giving towards instead of tearing down his good deeds.
Fuck-wit in bible..epic..we get it Bangladesh is poor.no matter how much you give your sweats to them, they will change for some period of time and then will forget it after sometimes I remember in ISD a lot of charity was done.poverty shall always remain cause they dont have the decent common sense when they have enough capital and yeah you just lost a Xbox and no offence i give a lot of charity..and all but i think that this country is in lack of education and that creates a bad community.
This was a great video. I am a third culture kid living in Thailand. I have grown up in a family concerned with helping and developing the community around it. My dad has worked for over 30 years in Asia as a vet. This is a great video and I wish everyone cared about the people around them the same way you do.

Hey snowlih - "people like me" are just people like you who took time out to do something like this. Thanks!
hey bren - that's a good idea. I will have to look into doing something like that down the road. But, up on my blog, I have an article called "How to get involved - an answer" which lists some organizations that let you go abroad and help others. Check out Hands On Disaster relief for example too.
Thanks! Though I've already researched how to get involved with orgs, I'm curious as to how exactly you did it as it looks much more involved and well, effective. I think if more people clued into what your doing the world would be a better place.
Ahh I see what your saying Bren. Yeah, basically when I first came here - the trip was for two months. I thought I could just go out and give stuff. But I quickly learned I should really try to team up with pre-existing NGOs because that way I can help those in the most need in an organized way. The rest has been luck in networking. But it, in turn, has extended my stay by five fold. It's actually much harder behind the scenes than it looks on YouTube. I share more about this on my blog too.
I would like to come out and help too. i see what you are trying to do and understand it.myself and my brother have gave money to you guys but i dont feel that this is enough please tell me what steps i need to take next. i feel i can make a small impact alongside you.
Hey shututina, thanks for the offer. But, unfortunately, I'm just one guy. I neither have the ability or the capacity to take someone into this project. Sometimes I am able to team up with NGOs or other aid workers who can help me logisitcally - but I'm usually they one that tags along with other people, not the other way around unfortunately.
You are there to make people aware that the world does not end in their houses and that people are living as great as the person next door. For anyone who wants to leave a negative comment or a message, i have one question for you. What have you done to help people in need?
Listen Bro. You should def. ignore the negative comments. Its from people who see you and what your doing and in turn it makes them feel like crap b/c they are not doing anything with their lives that makes a difference. Even if you are helping 1 child out, thats one more than a person who leaves a senseless negative comments. You are not there to be a star and expose yourself for modeling, you are there to HELP people who are in need. Keep doing what you are doing.
Although I realize I can't change the minds of those leaving negative comments - I do sometimes respond to them just to clarify things or explain things.
I found your tube site by accident - I don't have your energy but I feel the same way - but we have this same poverty and hunger issue in Oklahoma - it isn't near as bad as bangladesh - no. But, it shouldn't exist at all here - and is fully a shame it occurs on our planet at all.

i'm from a third world country as well plagued by corrupt officials which lead the suffering of the masses. what i really like about you is the way you portray the poor as dignified human persons. they need our solidarity. not our pity. you're a great guy. keep it up.
Great work Shawn. How outrageous of those ignorant people commenting on your personal appearance, which is perfectly fine. And the citizenship you possess is inconsequential to this global issue. People forget we are all citizens of the world, political borders and nationality are immaterial.
Cool video, don't listen to people who are talking shit to you. The fact of the matter is that you're the one fighting for a just cause and they're the ones sitting at home doing nothing. So who gives a shit what they think. Anyway, keep it up man, peace.
Keep it up you know your making a difference. What a dam good idea, and man you do have your priorities straight. Just remember any lame comments left are by people with absolutely nothing to do with their lives but bitch and moan cause theirs sucks so much
Hey Dan! Yeah, I've been debating a lot about turing my work officially into a non-profit or something.
The biggest thing I want to do is avoid asking for donations. Because, sometimes people tune out a message if they know there is going to be a plea for cash at the end of the message.
Becoming non-profit tax exempt, might be more than I can afford right now because it involves a lot of money in terms of paperwork. But if it makes my work easier, I'd definitely consider it in the future :-)
no, you know what, thank you, man. i know a lot of us gives a dollar to a bagger and fell like we are done for the day and thats not it at all. its people like you, unselfish, that should inspire us. keep up the awesome work man.
If you have the chance, read "Me To We" by Craig Krielburger (Free The Children) and Marc (his brother). Seriously...such an inspirational book and all proceeds go to their charity.
I'm very glad you're doing such an amazing job. I hope you enjoy the remainder of your time and come back home safely.
Craig and I are actually friends. He and I lived down the hall from each other back when we were both first year undergrads. I respect his work a lot :-) He's kind of been an inspiration to me as well.
Haha - thanks Shay. I haven't been able to comment on your latest vids yet cause my internet connection is pretty bad nowadays. The last one I was able to download was your sketches vid about your road trip.
And your right - Toyotas DO get good gas mileage :P
Oh and Shay some of the things I did in the rural villages was buy people fish so they could get much needed protein. I decided to do that after I realized how big malnutrition and lack of proper meals are a problem for many of the poor here.
So I guess I kinda will be breaking that "teach a man to fish" rule in one of my later vids :-)
It's always the nature of featured videos that you get a hell of allot of idiots. But thats people for you... I'm sure for every idiot you reached ten new people that really appreciated what you have to say.
Always good to hear you're doing well Shawn; don't be a stranger... and good luck with your challenge! It prefectly encapsulates what a selfless person you are.
I would suggest ignoring the negative criticisms. You're doing a great thing, and it certainly doesn't matter what you look like or what country you're from. Many of us are envious of what you all do to help those truly in need, and I look forward to your next video.
They are taking a little break while I write a TV Pilot for them and raise some funds to make new webshorts. Let's just say I probably could have bought a couple xbox360s with the money it took to make the first nine.
ABC Family once did a pilot called "The Fallen" which touched upon similar themes of good/evil and demons. I liked the topics - but it was too cheesy, with overly simplistic writing, and was too action-heavy (the Angels had lightsabers. Uggh).
I always thought a show touching on similar topics but with more thoughtful writing could do well. At the very least, you have one audience member waiting for it to be syndicated in Bangladesh :-)
I'd love a copy of the script man. I was just joking about syndication in Bangladesh. If your pilot ever gets turned into a TV series - it will come to Bangladesh in the form of pirated DVD boxsets :P

Personal attacks and hateful comments are all but inevitable, especially on YouTube. So many people lack the wit to sustain a legitimate argument that they will criticize any little blithering thing they can find. Most of them are just jealous and frustrated that YOU are going out and helping while THEY are sitting on their asses, though there IS a way for them to fix that. Personally, I find what you're doing to be noble and inspiring. Rock on, brother. Rock on. ...can I call you brother?

i'm from a third world country as well plagued by corrupt officials which lead the suffering of the masses. what i really like about you is the way you portray the poor as dignified human persons. they need our solidarity. not our pity. you're a great guy. keep it up.

Thanks for all your efforts. Really appreciate it. And you didn't even have to take any notice of hate comments.

Great work Shawn. How outrageous of those ignorant people commenting on your personal appearance, which is perfectly fine. And the citizenship you possess is inconsequential to this global issue. People forget we are all citizens of the world, political borders and nationality are immaterial.

don't worry about all those people talkign down on you.... they are jsut IGNORANT they don't deserve anymore then anyone else.

Dude your so right.

Yeah getting any video features tends bring the video to the attention of people who are not very well educated or have anything constructive to say.
As always I applaud your efforts. Keep us posted.

Best of luck to you. You may want to consider setting up a 501c3 non-profit tax exempt organization and sister with a larger similar organization.

WHAT?! Someone made bad comments to you? Honestly, there is a special place saved for them....
What you are doing is amazing and wonderful. Keep going!

Keep up the good work.... "Teach a man to fish" at least somebody out there gets it!! Good Job

That's an awesome challenge, good luck with it, I know you will do good!

I would suggest ignoring the negative criticisms. You're doing a great thing, and it certainly doesn't matter what you look like or what country you're from. Many of us are envious of what you all do to help those truly in need, and I look forward to your next video.
Take care of yourself.

Thanks man :-) I used to be very worried and nervous the first couple of months I was here. I'm definitely starting to feel a bit more confident now.

I missed you too man :-)
I've noticed there hasn't been any new eps for Iago + Dimitri lately. What happens now that they got that book? :P

They are taking a little break while I write a TV Pilot for them and raise some funds to make new webshorts. Let's just say I probably could have bought a couple xbox360s with the money it took to make the first nine.
notashot 3 years ago
Good luck with the TV Pilot man.
UnculturedProject 3 years ago
I don't know about syndication but I'll send you a copy of the script when it is done!
notashot 3 years ago
I'd love a copy of the script man. I was just joking about syndication in Bangladesh. If your pilot ever gets turned into a TV series - it will come to Bangladesh in the form of pirated DVD boxsets :P
