I trained with this guy in luton this weekend and as far as i am concerned this is one of the best karateka of all time. If you ever get the chance to train with yahara you wont regret it.
@redninja1able Ye I also trained with him in Luton on the saturday only though. He had a small Jap lady from the audience translate. My sensai was asked at one point to stand up and he was asked to explain what Karate meant to him. To demonstarte the power and conditioning of his hands Yahara hit the wall 3 times, and the whole hall shook lol! Well it sounded like it did;)
@BushiWaazup if all you think he is doing is beating up on his students then you have never trained in real martial arts. besides the perfection of character, the katas, the kihon, martial arts are about fighting. Combat. Life and death. If you can't take a hit, you'd be better off doing Tai Chi.
@ndileonardo I think you are right! Sometimes after a night of drinking, I get on YT and make stupid comments and apparently, I said a karate master would be vunerable to a punch in the nose. Well, that was clearly a vodka fueled comment! It is clear that attacking that guy would be fatal so thanks ndileonardo for pointing out my foolishness, I am in your debt!
At the JKA in the 70s Yahara was a bully and a vicious lowlife 2nd only to another lowlife called Yano. Both of them should have been banned from Karate years ago.
I trained at Yaharas dojo in Japan 2008 and he is inspirational and excellent in many areas what a honour it was to be given the oppotunity and how welcoming he was to us OOss
superb spirit and technique . One can train to achieve a decent technique which would be lethal even if it has a quarter of the strength that Yahara performs , but the spirit he displays is something else !
Yahara Sensei is known in Japan as, among other things, a professional provider of personal security for a some very wealthy clientele. What he provides protection against is assasination by members of the Yakuza. He's used his technique is real life or death encounters against multiple attackers. He's still alive. A little research will verify this rather easily. Anyone who thinks that Yahara can't fight in a real situation has no idea at all.....
Yahara Sensei knows how to overtake or to deal with the enemy (decent vale tudo fighter) like Bruce lee/ Van Damme/Jet Lee or Jackie Chan..By speed and focus and martial arts tekniks... martial arts tekniks...
A vale tudo fighters? you mean... those big man all muscles and "i'll break you face"? Karate isn't like other fighting sports. Karate is a martial art. And Yahara sensei is one of the greatest sessei alive today. I met him months ago during a stage. And he's great. This is art. Not fighting. And...you know... Yahara does not fear any vale tudo fighter you can find.
For me, vale tube (like o lot of other forms of fighting) is just beating and fighting for the pleasaure of the fight. and i don't understand that. A good vale tudo fighter is a real war machine! No doubt about it! (this is positive). But martial arts have something more. I can't explain it well... It is something more...personal... imho.
mmm...i understand. Btw have a lesson with yahara sensei was a great honor for a newbie like me (i'm just a first dan. this is just the biginning). i think that yahara sensei is a very carismatic person. i like his hip movements and his spinning tecnique.
Sure. An elbow right in the face or an headbutt is better than a jumping spinnig kick in the 95% of the situations. But i think that a good fighter should be able to use every part of his body. From head to feet.
he's a beast! something that only dedication to martial arts can do to you! i am impressed! did you guys see his aerial techs? amzing

that's stupid!
the techniques only gud for show, all karate techniques is not for reality combat

Why every karate dimostration is against an other karate stylist? Classic Karate punch and attack is very easy to defeat.
robyhh 2 years ago
So are boxing , kickboxing, muay thai attacks etc.
As you see with Lyoto Machida, once you control your traditional karate skills you can go very far and defeat many other styles.

Put him in the cage with a decent vale tudo fighter.
He could wear his nice white gi. It would change colour from white to brown to red and end up shredded.

Karate is/ was for self defence.
Vale tudo is anything goes other than biting and gouging. Self defence means just that.
Be capable of defending.
I believe karate's origins were to be trained along side weapons.
If your karate is an art then good luck if you ever need to defend yourself.

Yes and you have your opinion which is valid.
If martial arts also gives you other things thats great.
Health, confidence, ability to defend yourself, pleasure.
But I would be carefull of the stuff some people attempt to pass off as S/D.
Or indeed the manner it is taught.
So long as you know the difference.

That is fine so long as you understand that it is for you to develop as you will.
Yahara has some good points. He also has some bad points. I would take what you need and move on. High kicks, spinning kicks etc I still train them.
But I know of there value and when not to use them.

I agree. I have sparred with two people today both of which I havent sparred with before. Both had different strong and weak points.

The Best Of Mikio YAHARA Sensei would be put him in a full contact bout. Or the cage.
Lets see what he has in a real fight
