  • Great Video! I clean basically the same way. I do like to use an air compressor to blow out around firing pin and trigger.

  • whats with the black box on the video?

  • @clayton758 i was thinkin the same thing

  • Thank you. This video was helpful.

  • GREAT VIDEO... VERY HELPFUL... ONLY THING IS... I'VE ALWAYZ HEARD YOU SHOULDN'T OIL THE INSIDE OF THE BARREL... JUST SHARING A LITTLE INFO I'VE HEARD

  • @Lo314 Well that is WRONG you need to have a light coat of oil inside your barrel

so it does NOT RUST but befor you shoot it REMEMBER TO SWAB THE BARREL TO REMOVE THE OIL.My carry gun has a very light coat of oil so the barrel dosn't rust.If it is stored for along time then oil the sh** out of it (BUT SWAB B4 U SHOOT) it comes down to if you don't oil it it will RUST and PIT...

  • good video, i learned most of my gun skills on a military tour in israel with a company called lionops. we shot every type of firearm imaginable, and even threw grenades. basically, the only thing our trip didnt do, was learn how to clean a gun

  • I put mine in the washing machine. If you use some fabric conditioner, it'll come out smelling like flowers, which is nice :)

  • its growing some type of something in there lol

  • Very similar to how I clean mine

  • what will happen if i dont clean it , is it gonna blow off right in my hand or something ?? , please someone answer .

  • @WarezProgrammer No. But like most things, if it's clean it will likely function better.

  • @Cr0cket20 thank you so much , cuz i was really worried .

  • @WarezProgrammer If you don't clean if often enough it will start to malfunction and also cause premature wear on the gun.

  • @WarezProgrammer if you dont clean a gun it can get dameged over time.. it can stop working or fire the bulet and it can get stuck in the gun

  • Many thanks for the rapid response. Your video is very clear and informative.

  • Very nice video. I just got an XDm 9mm. The cleaning instructions (XDm manual, p. 35) state DO NOT APPLY OIL OR GREASE TO STRIKER (the use of capitals is theirs, not mine). I’m guessing that your very brief wipe with the oiled Q-Tip at about 8:16 is okay?

  • @223elzey Never had a problem doing it. I'm guessing it's so it doesn't collect dirt and grim maybe.

  • @nebula25x I hope ur kiddin lol

  • You have to be 21 to own a fire arm right?

Thinking of getting a fire arm so would also like a recommendation of a defense fire arm. Pistols Preferably and as cheap as possible.

  • @MrHatlab the ruger p95 is around $300, along with the s&w sigma... hi-point is -$200 if u cant spend that much... im goin for the 14 round sigma .40

  • @sfvirgo have you shot the sigma? if i were you i would save up and get the m&p. I've shot both the sigma and m&p. the sigma jammed every box of ammo and the m&p which i own hasnt jammed and feels sooo much better to shoot. it's an investment for life do it right.

  • @sfvirgo It depends on what you want it for if you want it for a range gun (TOY) or personall pertection if it is for personall pertection then I would go with the Taurus Pt-740 or the 709 I carry the 740 great gun and fun to shoot does not jam no problems it will eat anything that you feed it...

  • A clean gun is a happy gun.

  • My method was the same as yours except recently changed from using Hoppes to Froglube which comes in either liquid or paste form. It's more of a green cleaner that's plant based and non-toxic. My main reason for switching was because of the smell. It doesn't give off fumes like the other petro cleaners do so you can actually clean your guns indoors without getting that lingering odor. Froglube smells minty and it's been working great with 400 rnds so far using it.

  • @darmog I like the smell of petro cleaners. And it makes other folk nervous. Because they know that my gun is clean, and happy.

  • love your videos crocket, How do you like the xdm, I have a xdm 45. I love it.

  • @silentdeathtx4 Love the ergos and the way it shoots. Glad I have it in my small collection.

  • Thx, good vid.

  • Excellent video; solid advice.

  • Excellent video. Reviewed a couple of vids on cleaning, appreciated your attention to detail, very comprehensive, thanks!

  • Great video, thanks!

  • Well done. I also use q-tips and think they work great for my needs.

  • Added to favorites..thank you!!

  • Dude this is a great video thanx for posting I'm a new gun owner and I own the XDm 40 and your method seems to be the best.

  • @bubbakill1 Glad it was helpful. Enjoy your new XDM.

  • i find the bore brush they give you is such a pain to use i littlery have to screw it though the barrel and even at that it feel like you dont really do a good job, so i changed to a snake and just run that though a couple of times. save my hands from the pain and torcher lol

  • Would the spray lubricant work just a well as the Q-tips?

  • @PunchRockGroin Haven't used the spray before, I imagine it would though. But again, I haven't used it.

  • Thanks... i just cleaned my XD9 SC for the first time using your video... i ran about 320 rounds through it before cleaning it.

  • question, do u prefer using CLP for lubrication ?

  • This is pretty much exactly how I clean my guns too. I really don't see what the big deal is about not pushing the cleaning rod out the other end of the barrel, though. Oh, well; like you said, it's user preference. I'm like you with the bore brushes; I've never really needed to use them unless I've been shooting a lot. With today's ammo, there's really no need for bore brushes. With that said, I usually brush out the bores after about 500-700 shots depending on how often I clean them.

  • Thanks, I clean mine basically the same way... just curious, why do you say it is "going into storage for a while?" (and since this video is a little old... is it still in storage?)

  • @550shop I own several so I rotate through. Just depends on what I feel/can afford to shoot at the time. I've definitely had it out since this vid. Thanks for watching.

  • Thanks for the video it really helped me out! You said you switched to the nylon scrub brush instead of the metal one, but you never used it in the video.. When do you use the scrub brush?

  • @Dodge0580 I occasionally use it to clean the barrel. I really have no rhyme or reason as to the frequency, more or less just when I feel it needs that "extra" cleaning.

  • Thanks for the vid. Think i will try the Q tips. Had a hard time getting lube in the slide slots. Just a note. When i first bought my 40, the mag release was hard to work... I put the smallest drop of oil on both sides. Works fine now. BTW saw you on Nutn's channel out on Glacier hike Pt1...Looked like fun!

  • @TheBeeperman Welcome. Thanks for watching. That backpacking trip with Nutn was an adventure for sure. He's a great guy.

  • Hello. could you tell me about how many rounds have been fired thru this gun. I compare wear marks & see how it compares with my XD that has a couple thousand rounds thru it. Thanks. Sincerely,d JAMES.

  • @buzzclark At the time of this filming probably around 500? Not sure though.

  • Nice video buddy. To the point and informative. I have a Springfield 1911 and am looking into buying a 40 cal XDm. I will use the same method you just did.

  • Thanks. I've really liked my XDm. Springfield 1911's great guns.

  • great vid! i jus got a xdm for my first handgun, I will def. use this video for when I clean it!

  • Thanks. Glad to help.

  • wow man. GREAT VIDEO, i clean my XD and beretta the exact same way. You made my video for me , thanks =)

lol and same thing with the mags, not every gun cleaning, but it does need to be done somtimes. Favorite - shared - 5 stars

  • Thanks.

  • Very informative. Especially for a "newbie" like myself. Thanks for taking time to post it. Looking forward to more of your vid's.

  • Good vid! An alternative to Q-tips I sort of stumbled on a few years ago since I'm a pipe smoker is pipe cleaners. You can double over the tip of one and really get into the nooks and crannys. When it gets dirty you just re-bend it at a clean section and continue. You can get bristled pipe cleaners too that have stiff nylon fibers mixed in with the soft fibers.

  • Thanks. Good to know. I love hearing alternatives from other people. Thanks for the comment.

  • Excellent tutorial. I pretty much clean the same way.

  • Thanks. Ya so far this method hasn't let me down. Have you ever tried those bore snakes for you pistols?

  • I run the bore snakes but only if I am pressed for time. They work great, but not for deep cleaning. If you really need to clean it fast and get it back into service, the boresnakes are great!

  • Great Video Man!

  • Thanks.
