Michelle lets the kids be themselves. She trains them to be considerate, as evidenced by the middle and older kids' manners. But she doesn't squelch their spirits. They all express themselves freely and exhibit the joy they have in being SO loved and SO secure in their family. What a gift to those kids, as they are a precious gift to the Duggars and the rest of us.

It's amazing how many people get mad that the older children help with the younger children. Yet most people are perfectly okay with dropping their own children off at a daycare for someone else to raise, expect public schools to teach their own children about parental things like sex, and have no problem with sex outside of marriage, even it that means that millions of children grow up with only one parent; not to mention the 'parents' that leave their children home alone or at afterschool

I've worked in daycare (at ages 16-18 with another girl who started at 14) and with inner city kids who run around with each other and fight while the parent has gone grocery shopping to get cheerios and liquor with their welfare check after their day of sleeping. We are okay with that, and are too bothered to work together to change that, but when a religious family who pays their own bills and spends time together comes along, we complain

She ISN'T able to take care of them all. In fact, I question what she does do besides screw and breastfeed baby after baby. Her older girls are raising the younger ones. As soon as she gets knocked up again, she hands off the last one to one of the sisters. How fkd' up is that? VERY.

That's the way it has been for generations ... since the dawn of mankind. The older ones help with the younger ones and they all help around the house. If more kids were asked to have consideration for other people and property, we wouldn't see as much narcissism, out of control behavior, moral decay and selfishness today. Children should understand that when they're part of a family, they contribute. It's no less true today, when people have fewer kids. The Duggars are the selfless ones.

@funstufffordogs You can call it "selfless". I call it ignorant. It is foolish and stupid to have 19 children. None of the older kids are allowed a normal life as a teen because they are strapped with child-rearing duties. That is NOT the same as just helping around the house. They are burdened with the duties of a parent without signing up for that job. Jim Bob & Michelle are irresponsible and selfish. Hell, Jim Bob will likely risk Michelle's life again to pregnancy--again very foolish.

i would have more respect if they adopted some of the kids there are so many kids out there need to be adopted.. at least foster care. I think that adopted kids would LOVE being in this family there are so many of them

@Mitsy1212they have so many children because they had a miscarriage. she got pregnant while on birth control, and that is why the baby died. they felt so guilty, they decided to let God decide how many children they have. and they have raised their kids so well, the older ones WANT to help, as they should. you are supposed to honor your mother and father. which is what they do.

Oh yeah I am jealous of her because she has had a 5 to 8 lb being ripped from her vagina 19 times. OH Yeah I am jealous. From what I understand of the show, all their children were conceived naturally. I think this family and a lot of other shows are all part of this "oddity" reality TV that's become so popular. I saw an advertisement for a show about a half-tonne teenager - it's interesting that things that were once considered so strange they were displayed have come back in the medium of television.

As for the Duggars though, they seem like a loving family who provide well for their children.

It isn't the amount of children that damage the environment, it is the resources you use w/ those children. The Duggars have their good points environment-wise (always buying used, house that is 400 sqft/ person, versus the American standard 575 sqft /person) and their bad (owning A LOT of vehicles, often using paper plates).

I have seen child-free couples using more resources than families with eight. The amount of children doesn't have to be an issue if you live with respect for the enviro.
