Lee Kerslake is indeed still alive, he retired from Heep about 4 years ago, not sure exactly when. He was not however an original member of the band. I believe Alex Napier was the original drummer. Lee was like 3rd or 4th. He was there in their heyday though. Demons and Wizards through Sweet Freedom and beyond. He left for a while, played with Ozzy and others.
heep should be in the hall of fame along with dozens of other bands, many current members should be thrown out as undeserving. perhaps one day there will be a "heavy metal" hall of fame and those like heep will be put in their rightful place
I saw Uriah Heep back in 1974 and again in 1975 when I was in the service in Germany. My hair still stands on end when I hear their music, so many good memories.
"We are from Finland" I'm too and this is one of the my favourites at the moment. Today or tomorrow I'll get my Firefly and Seet Freedom albums from the post :)
I can proudly say I was there! What a beautiful night that was, well worth the trip all the way from Italy, where I live.
I had my short moment of glory at 00:17 (I'm the one doing the "V" sign). Just a fraction of a second, but it's good to be on a Heep official video release! :D
i remember, i had this 73 vette, i took this hot girl out for a ride, we smoked one. i put in this "tape" and stealin came on... on the heavy break at "my life". i floored the vette... i remember looking over at her and seeing her mouth "WOW". it's always been my favorite heep tune. the guitar solo is one of my faves too. these guys were so good, makes no sense why they didn't get big in the states. well, bigger than they did. that pointing thing by mick is so lame.
This song was always my favorite, and you're right, that's the lineup that absolutely kicked ass. Lee Kerslake just can't let go of Heep and tries to keep it alive no matter what. But the old Heep are gone, gone, gone.....
@Starbreaker Have we succeeded? We think so. Before long we shall have covered with our narratives an enormous period of time; between the "Comtesse de Salisbury' and the "Comte de Monte Christo" five centuries and a half are compresed. Well, we assert that we have taught France as much history about those five centuries and a half as any historian.
@Starbreaker "The high office of the President has been used to foment a plot to destroy the American's freedom and before I leave office, I must inform the citizen of this plight."
@Starbreaker 'I do not like the reappearance of The Jesuits ... If ever there was a body of men who merited damnation on earth and in hell, it is this society of Loyola's. Nevertheless, we are compelled by our system of religous toleration to offer them an asylum.' John Adams, 2nd President of the U.S.A

@Starbreaker This passage is from The Companions of Jehu--page 396--"You are ninnies! I have cheated all the time we've been playing, and you never found out. Those who lost can take their money back." Born and bred in the Catholic faith, Bonaparte had no preference for any dogma. When he re-established divine worship it was done as a political act, not as a religous one.
@Starbreaker "The general public, are ignorant and meddlesome outsiders who must be put in their place. They are to be spectators of action not participants who must be regimented to abandon any ideas about controlling their own lives. Their task is to develop a philosophy of futility and to follow orders while focusing their attention on more superficial things which comprise much of fashionable consumption."
~ Walter Lippmann (Pioneer of Propaganda) (1922)
@Starbreaker there's one big difference between bernie & the late david Byron.... Mr ,byron had an amazing voice& regularly hit high notes... Bernie when will you start hitting high notes?
@Freyja1133 Bernie has hit numerous high notes during his time in the band. I saw them live in May and he hit some great ones. Not to mention, nailing all the harmonies.
I do see where you're coming from, but I don't think high notes make the singer. Bernie sings with great tone and conviction and is versatile enough to fit many moods. As much as I loved Byron, I think Bernie would be my favourite Heep vocalist.
no, heep isn't the same...yeah they still rock, however without david byron, the band ain't the same. this guy sucks he doesn't have the voice at all. hell, john lawton was by far better than this guy. the ORIGINAL line up for heep is far better; byron, hensley, box. they need to bring back byron or lawton.
They are as good now as they were then. No matter who is singing or in the band. This is good. I would prefer the original just like anyone else, but that just ain't going to happen is it.. so here is what we have.. love it or leave it...I think I love it!
I have no problem with groups continuing on but geez man, don't be doing a David Byron song with a different singer. David Lee Roth never sings a Sammy Hagar song and vice versa. With no Ken Hensley and no David Byron, it AIN'T Uriah Heep.
Actually, Lee Kerslake wasn't on the very first Heep album, I don't think. He came on for Salsbury (2nd album) or "Look at yourself" which was the third. Mick Box (guitar) is the only original member left. I believe Lee had to retire due to health problems.
I saw Uriah Heap in 1983 on the Abominog tour. I like the studio version of this song where he sings "I stole the farmers daughter and sure did hurt his pride" and then laughs.
@chronicmike sorry to bust your bubble, but Lee Kerslake was already dead when this done. Box is the only one. unless you consider Trevor Boulder (Ziggy Stardust era Spiders) original, which he's not.
this guy can sing !

This is good, but check the post "Uriah Heep David Byron" with Byron doing the Stealin' vocals live from a 1974 concert in England.
I saw Heep perform that same year in Florida, they opened with Stealin' and fog on the stage, it was great!

How can they bring back Byron? HE DIED IN 1986.
Let it go, he was an amazing singer and a wonderful performer and I have utmost respect for him...but he's gone.
Bernie doesn't suck, he's another amazing vocalist, just be happy there's still a Uriah Heep around.
