@privatedancer06 You're right, they did. I think the writers were trying to convey all the sane people's reactions about the situation through Lucky and Lulu, since there were no realistic reactions from Laura or the GH audience back when it happened.
Luke is a son of a bitch for what he put Laura through; however, I do have to give him credit for coming out into the open and telling his kids what he did to their mother. At least he didnt throw a fit when confronted by his kids. Lucky needs to chill out

Gloria Monty tackled a rewrite that most producers would've never touched, during that time. GH was about to be cancelled, so there was nothing to lose. Gloria took advantage of the chemistry between TG and GF. It was up to the viewers to drink the Kool-Aid or not. Boy, did they drink it.
@DawnYzag in a way luke was getting raped too by the organization, they were forcing all the good out of him while he was in the organization laura was the one shred of goodness left for him and he clung to it. i do not condone what he did but at the same time, you have to understand what was going through luke's head at the time. laura fell for him because he was fascinating and she felt that she could save him in some way,and in a way, she did, she was and is his angel. always will be.......

It backfired on them, since the ratings did rise and the show was saved from cancellation but...the viewers wanted Luke and Laura to be a couple. So, they had a choice, ignore the rape and hook them up, and see their ratings continue ti rise...or risk the ratings to fall again and be canceled.
