besides mccartney's impecable playing... his writing of basslines is ridiculously good. Yes I'm a huge beatles fan... but I don't know of a better bassist than paul. Insanely good at bass, and insanely good at writing bass parts.
good job man.. quick question... did u mute the bass from the original track (somehow) or play with the song and boosted ur bass, so Paul McCartney's bass is not heard?..
You nailed it man. Great job. I also just started playing bass ( on a hofner) after playing nothing but electric and acoustic guitar for 5 years and have fallen in love with it.
Very nice. George was quoted as saying that Pauls bass playing was too busy on Something but you showed how perfect it fits. I think this was the Beatles "finest hour".
For only playing a year, wow! Not that this is a physically demanding song, just that the timing on a song like this sounds very difficult to get right, and you got it as right as you can possibly get it. Great tone with the flatwounds too.
I find it hard to believe for having played only 1 year, you are able to tackle this very complicated and awsome bass line. You zoned in on it...Did you have someone teach this to you? Just curious....Great job..you got the instinct and most important, The Feel.
NinjaKiller112: the Epiphone Viola is not a replica of a Hofner..Gibson made the first violin shaped bass guitar in 1953 a few years before Hofner made his hollow one. called the Gibson EB-1 which was in dark red and had one F hole decal. made with a set neck and in 1964-68 reissued it and added two pickups.
@fairyfellermaster actually there is a surprising history behind that. paul origionally played bass back when they were the choir men and got demoted to rytthm guitar when he messed up a solo. strangely afterwards their bass player died so paul opted to fill in the spot. interesting right?
@megakiller999 Right story different instrument. McCartney played lead guitar originally with the quarrymen . Paul had a go on a song I believe called "guitar boogie" & messed up the solo. Some days later he told John about a friend of his a bit younger called George harrison. Years later when bassist Stuart sutcliffe decided to leave the band to pursue his art career & marry his fiancé, John wasn't gonna do it, George wouldn't do it so poor ol Paul got stuck with the gig of bassist.
@fairyfellermaster True, true. But George was already assigned as the lead guitarist so he couldn`t do it. John was to impatient to learn it, and Paul of course, knew he had to fill in that position to keep the band moving.
This is the only bass lesson video I've put in my favorites & I don't even own a bass lol. I'm no bassist but I think @ the very end you may have misplayed a note. Heck I mess up all the time. Amazing playing nonetheless
a bit of trivia for you although an awesome bass line it was George Harrison got mad at McCartney for such a heavy bass line. awesome playing andd nice touch with the epiphone viola
reddwarfer29: Felicidades maestro, parece que tienes toda una vida tocando el bass.-ademas, muy completa la informacion acerca de como y en que ejecutas e instalas.-excuse me, I wrote in spanish 'cause I have a lot of ideas flyinf in my brains.-any way, I'm sure you gonna traslate, congrats =.you are the man.-Luis Marin.-PS: this coment is because you'r playing only a year the bass guitar!!

@medievallover120 Actually, it's not literally the exact viola you're getting, unless of course you're buying reddwarfer29's personal viola bass. Don't confuse the individual with the species.
Sweet, best i've seen on here. As for the pick..plain and simple people are idiots. Watching your video, I've fully understood how marvellous is the bass part in this song!!! It's very complex, and you played it great!!!! My syncere appreciations, you are an excellent bass-guitar player :D :D :D
1 year? lol, I've started 3 months ago and I'm playing the same as you (of course I already play guitar for 2 years, but...)
About the pick comments: I think that this bass techniques like pizzicato and other things are just some excuses, cause the bassist can't play at the same agility with only the thumb.. I play mostly with the thumb, and I can play really fast.
I use the pick, like Paul, to achieve a sound different from the fingers. Not because it hurts, or he can't play with fingers.
The Epiphone Viola Bass...aah, what a classic. I'm just learning, but I've had my bass floating around for a while. I felt I was commiting a crime not properly learning it. I can't wait to hear mine sing like yours. =D
That's amazing. Paul is such a phenomenal bass player. I've heard all those songs so many times, and when any of them pop into my head, sometimes it's the bass line that comes up more clearly than the melody or guitar lines. You nailed this so well. A joy to watch you play and hear those notes up front like that
Never really appreciated Paul's ability until only recently...No idea why, I just did. I particular like his ability to play things like this and sing at the same time. He's no doubt an exceptionally talented individual. I'd like to spend some time with him and Burton Cummings.
Great bass line and you played it great!! I don't think most people know that George hated that bass line. He was quoted as saying "Paul turned my song into a bass solo" LOL!!
