  • do you have tabs for this song

  • besides mccartney's impecable playing... his writing of basslines is ridiculously good. Yes I'm a huge beatles fan... but I don't know of a better bassist than paul. Insanely good at bass, and insanely good at writing bass parts.

  • good job man.. quick question... did u mute the bass from the original track (somehow) or play with the song and boosted ur bass, so Paul McCartney's bass is not heard?..

  • You nailed it man. Great job. I also just started playing bass ( on a hofner) after playing nothing but electric and acoustic guitar for 5 years and have fallen in love with it.

  • That was amazing. I've always thought that this was the single best bass part of every song ever made and you were great.

  • Amazing! I wish I could someday learn to play the bass just to cover Beatles songs =3

  • @fifiesponja07 What's stopping you? :3

  • Very nice. George was quoted as saying that Pauls bass playing was too busy on Something but you showed how perfect it fits. I think this was the Beatles "finest hour".

  • thanks! nice vid!

  • Very nice! My band used to play that song. The bass is so outstanding it's almost like a lead part.

  • That's one of the greatest bass accompanyments I've heard. Greg

  • you've been playing bass for only a year??????

  • Comment removed

  • that's not a hofner, it does'nt look like the kind that paul mccartney uses. it has a pickguard.

it doesn't really matter. it still rocks!

  • hey can leave a link in the bar or show the notes for us please

  • Man, keep doing the great job you've already started! Liked a lot!

  • I LOVE THE BASS GROOVE :D

  • 2:24 - the best part

  • wonderfull cover but a question , what strings you use ?

  • One small mistake at 1:58 but overall an excellent job.

  • is a epiphone viola or something same not hofner

  • i like these hofners but there so fucking small for a bass

  • great flatwound sound bro!

  • You're great. Are you sure your name's not William Campbell?

  • @locosporlosfabs Please don't tell me you believe in that stupid myth..

  • @locosporlosfabs Jajajajaja I laugh My ass of When I read That xD

  • very nice sound and excellent try, almost Paul.

  • Great!!

  • nice !

  • great work, this is perfect

  • For only playing a year, wow! Not that this is a physically demanding song, just that the timing on a song like this sounds very difficult to get right, and you got it as right as you can possibly get it. Great tone with the flatwounds too.

  • i've been playing it without pick.

  • one of the funniest things to do is to read comment fights

  • Very nice.... perfect Great playing

  • NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Aside from the Hofner pointed in the wrong direction, you did Paul justice.

  • beautifull!!! pick ;o(

  • I find it hard to believe for having played only 1 year, you are able to tackle this very complicated and awsome bass line. You zoned in on it...Did you have someone teach this to you? Just curious....Great job..you got the instinct and most important, The Feel.

  • @TrickeyRickey A year can be plenty if you're committed

  • NinjaKiller112: the Epiphone Viola is not a replica of a Hofner..Gibson made the first violin shaped bass guitar in 1953 a few years before Hofner made his hollow one. called the Gibson EB-1 which was in dark red and had one F hole decal. made with a set neck and in 1964-68 reissued it and added two pickups.

  • A really nice job!

  • great! love it!

  • Is it me or did McCartney play the bass almost like a lead guitar?

  • @fairyfellermaster actually there is a surprising history behind that. paul origionally played bass back when they were the choir men and got demoted to rytthm guitar when he messed up a solo. strangely afterwards their bass player died so paul opted to fill in the spot. interesting right?

  • @megakiller999 Right story different instrument. McCartney played lead guitar originally with the quarrymen . Paul had a go on a song I believe called "guitar boogie" & messed up the solo. Some days later he told John about a friend of his a bit younger called George harrison. Years later when bassist Stuart sutcliffe decided to leave the band to pursue his art career & marry his fiancé, John wasn't gonna do it, George wouldn't do it so poor ol Paul got stuck with the gig of bassist.

  • @fairyfellermaster True, true. But George was already assigned as the lead guitarist so he couldn`t do it. John was to impatient to learn it, and Paul of course, knew he had to fill in that position to keep the band moving.

  • This is the only bass lesson video I've put in my favorites & I don't even own a bass lol. I'm no bassist but I think @ the very end you may have misplayed a note. Heck I mess up all the time. Amazing playing nonetheless

  • Good job, your bass line is the best I've heard (and I've heard all what is out there), you're around 95% of it. VERY GOOD!

  • Nice job! However I think you made some variations to the right bass line.

  • PERFECT.... VERY GOOD!!!

  • hey man can you send me the tabs

  • Absolutely superb cover of Paul's bass line.

  • Touch is too weak.

  • Amazing!

  • I want a Hofner! hahaha great :)

  • @thamyresilva its a epiphone

  • magik

  • Very very good. Congrats! Do you have tabs? Regards! Sartori.

  • a bit of trivia for you although an awesome bass line it was George Harrison got mad at McCartney for such a heavy bass line. awesome playing andd nice touch with the epiphone viola

  • I want that bass man!!!

  • Jamesjonesrocket. Please im interested on your trascriptions can you send them?

  • @hhiber send me your email address and I'll send em

  • hey i was wondering im getting a jay turser viola bass for christmas that would be good too right?

  • I have a massive collection of beatles official bass transcriptions I can send anyone if they're interested, they're not in tab though.

  • @jamesjonesrocket I would love those transcriptions if you can send

  • @sbalestier sure, what's your email address pal, send it in my inbox if you don't want all these slimy bastards to see it :)

  • reddwarfer29: Felicidades maestro, parece que tienes toda una vida tocando el bass.-ademas, muy completa la informacion acerca de como y en que ejecutas e instalas.-excuse me, I wrote in spanish 'cause I have a lot of ideas flyinf in my brains.-any way, I'm sure you gonna traslate, congrats =.you are the man.-Luis Marin.-PS: this coment is because you'r playing only a year the bass guitar!!

  • Paul originally had a more intricate bass line for this song, but George said he wanted it to be simpler. Paul complied.

  • hermosa cancion!

  • great but disencouraging.

  • this is incredible!

  • i loved pauls bass lines

  • is not really dificult...--'

  • @pepito14750

well, write such a bassline and then play it.

we see if you will create so many memorable ones as the best bassplayer of all time, paul mccartney.

  • @OropherThranduil

Paul MacCartney is the best bassplayer of all time!!!!!!

  • @pepito14750

where's the problem, that's exactly what i said.

  • Excellent cover... thanks for posting. enjoyed watching.... still never understood the decapitaion theory?

  • Amazing job: tone and playing = spot on! I always imagined Macca to have 'pulled out the stops' in writing this amazing bass-line as he was probably seething at Harrison having written (IMHO) the best of all the Beatles' ballads

  • Accurate and nice play. Well done!

  • its a epiphone viola bass

    great job

  • exelllent video you are great palyng the bass congratulatios this is great

  • awesome!

  • Oh wow. Thats the EXACT (literally exact) viola that I'm getting.

  • @medievallover120 Actually, it's not literally the exact viola you're getting, unless of course you're buying reddwarfer29's personal viola bass. Don't confuse the individual with the species.

  • @danakerman ... This is the same guy (new account). I just meant I'm getting one exactly like** that bass. Don't be a smart ass.

  • @Shminkingofgin88 Aw, damn, you caught me. I was being a smart ass ;-)

  • haahahaha is like a violin what model is good just please answer me XD

  • awesome bass...

  • This is amazing, but man, you should get a hofner,

  • we have the same bass and what website/book did you find the tabs?

  • Sweet, best i've seen on here. As for the pick..plain and simple people are idiots. Paul was a guitarist first (and continuted to be pretty darn good, his creative solo on Taxman shows this to be true) so ti was only natural for him to continue to use a pick when forced to become the bass player. He's come up with some of the most creative bass lines. Till one of these yo yo's can create a better bassline to an original song then they need to shut it.

  • i say ...FLAWLESS BASS WORK....

i played this bass line in my gigs but not as perfect as this...

  • chido bass suna igual

  • Very good! Tanx man!

  • awesome, I love this, you have inspired me to learn the bass!!!

  • Actually, I can't tell whether you're playing it or your hand-syncing.

    NAH, I'M KIDDIN', YOU'RE AMAZING!

But really, what Hofner 500/1 Violin Bass are you using? And older version or newer? It sounds just like Paul's.

  • superb...

  • I love this song; can't hear it without getting all sad over George's death)x

  • so 21 people are tone deaf...

  • Greatest bass line ever!

  • Macca just doesn't get enough credit for the bass master he is!

  • great playing, thank you so much!!

  • this must have been a bitch to memorize. looks easy though. such a beautiful song.

  • What model and brand is that bass?

  • @BogMyster Epiphone Viola Bass, says in the description :D

  • nice!

  • Great... Paul's bass was almost the lead guitar.. you captured it!

  • nice man great choice of bass

  • Sin comentarios me quede atonico pero solo digo que eres un buen bajista y que interpretaste muy bien la hermosa canción something. Felicidades

  • is that a hofner or viola bass?

  • thats amazin dude, take it your using flatwound strings on it? if so which make of strings and gauge are you using? sounds amazin

  • wow man!!!!!!! your cover is really awesome so i have a question:

does the viola bass has a beatle sound? (of course it doesnt's sound as a höfner) But how great is it's sound and how close is to the höfner's?

Thank you and sorry for my english

  • Comment removed

  • simply amazing:D

  • Watching your video, I've fully understood how marvellous is the bass part in this song!!! It's very complex, and you played it great!!!! My syncere appreciations, you are an excellent bass-guitar player :D :D :D

  • Oh, and nice job man.

  • 1 year? lol, I've started 3 months ago and I'm playing the same as you (of course I already play guitar for 2 years, but...)

About the pick comments: I think that this bass techniques like pizzicato and other things are just some excuses, cause the bassist can't play at the same agility with only the thumb.. I play mostly with the thumb, and I can play really fast.

I use the pick, like Paul, to achieve a sound different from the fingers. Not because it hurts, or he can't play with fingers.

  • muchas gracias amigo!! esta muy bueno ekl video segui subiendo cosasun saludo desde argentina!!!

  • great job. very fluent

  • The Epiphone Viola Bass...aah, what a classic. I'm just learning, but I've had my bass floating around for a while. I felt I was commiting a crime not properly learning it. I can't wait to hear mine sing like yours. =D

  • wow no words great job. you think this song can be done by a different bass!! reddwarfer29

  • great! I´m looking forward to buying my own bass and I would love to be as good as you are after only one year practising :))

  • Perfect :D

  • Excellent performance of a tricky bass part! Well done, and thanks for sharing!

  • just brilliant, mate!! well done!!

  • Awsome Bass playing mate, and I love that Bass!!

  • Good job, note perfect.....

  • That's amazing. Paul is such a phenomenal bass player. I've heard all those songs so many times, and when any of them pop into my head, sometimes it's the bass line that comes up more clearly than the melody or guitar lines. You nailed this so well. A joy to watch you play and hear those notes up front like that

  • eres un pendejo para tokar el bajo

  • thats very true in fact if you watch the till there was you video he does not use a pick

  • Good job man!!

  • FANTASTIC playing on one of Macca's signature songs.

  • I play with a yamah rbx 170 and for something is bass is great !

I think i'll buy an hofner 500/1 contemponary.

    From a frenche people, 14years

  • whats the science behind this? Do I need to know the chords or the scales to play this?

  • Right on meccabeat I don't understand how ignorant people can be sometimes. Sounds great by the way!

  • Never really appreciated Paul's ability until only recently...No idea why, I just did. I particular like his ability to play things like this and sing at the same time. He's no doubt an exceptionally talented individual. I'd like to spend some time with him and Burton Cummings.

  • i have been playing guitar in 1 year and i cant even "F" xD You are awesome dude :D

  • cool men, really excellent job! 5/5

  • McCartney was a brilliant player. Thanks for the tribute, you rock.

  • @jacme1219 What do you he WAS a good player ? :)

  • thats a sweeet guitar

  • good playing, hard to see the fingering so I can learn from it though...

  • Good playing, well done!

  • best bass line ever!

  • EXCELLENT! 5/5

  • paperback writer and something two of the best bass melody

  • Great bass line and you played it great!! I don't think most people know that George hated that bass line. He was quoted as saying "Paul turned my song into a bass solo" LOL!!

  • How is Epiphone a Beatles copy? Paul has always played a Hofner.

  • Love it!

  • Very nice job. Your left hand still looks a bit like how a girl throws a baseball but you are well on your way to becoming a fluid player. Once again, nice job.

  • sweet. i always thought that the bass playing on this song was incredible.

  • Super bass line !

  • i have tht bass!!!!

  • tocas genial!!

  • Absolute perfection in how you played that and thank you for mentioning what brand of bass that was you were playing, because now I'm going to buy an Epiphone viola bass. It has such a rich, deep, full tone that I've been looking for, but couldn't shell out the two thousand for an authentic Hofner. This will do me just fine. Thanks again!

  • i got a hofner for 400 its pual mccartny style

  • Very nice cover ;D *Thumbsup*

  • SUPER!!!5*****woow

  • A really great bass cover and I agree with MultiTechnics...

  • shut your mouth 74Apollo74!,, he plays better than you I'm really sure!, so I play bass since 25 years i recognize a good player even if he begins grrrrrrrr!!!

  • i read that you had been only playing bass for a year, so this is very impressive, you've obviously been a musician much longer though, awesome playing. btw one of the greatest chord progressions i have ever heard! love this song, if u havent already learn the solo u should too!

  • G'day pbobassist,

Thanks for your comments, yes I used to play keyboards many years ago, and have decided recently (3.5 years ago) that I wanted to learn to play bass as I am a big fan of The Beatles and Paul MacCartney. I downloaded a few bass tabs and practised every day, especially this song, Something as it is such a great bass line to play. All the best.

  • @reddwarfer29 Gday? Are you from Prince Edward Island?

  • this bass line and the one for taxman are just amazing

  • y pensar que george harrison nunca estuvo de acuerdo en como toco paul mccartney el bajo en esta cancion, jajajaj ironias no creen?? live the beatles

  • Well done my bass bro! Leave it Paul to come up with such a KILLER bass line!

  • dude did you take formal lessons or on your own

  • G'day LuchoMucho1969,

I actually learnt the Bassics (excuse the pun) by downloading and playing bass tabs of songs that I was familiar with, plus also watching video tutorials on YouTube. In the first year I practised nearly every day for at least 20 minutes.

  • Great bass line! Keep it up!!

  • Well Done!

  • you're an idiot

  • and you say that because?

  • You made one of the most beautiful bass lines in rock history look so easy to play!

    Congrats!
