  • where did you parachute from?

  • can i kiss your lips..?

  • perty sweet

  • COOL

  • well done

  • Wow....

  • Great! Clawhammer rules!!!!

  • Lol, aluminum banjos sure look funny without the resonator. Great playing, though.

  • That is brilliant............

  • Wow great job. Clawhammer can play it all.

  • mind = blown :)

  • That is one almighty fast clawhammer going on there, reminds me of billy connollys style. Nice one mate.

  • awesome playing man, as sandwalker said, any tabs for it?

  • sweet -- nicely played!

  • You rock that song!

I am looking for the tab for this any idea where I might find it?

  • damn!

  • Clawhammer is king.

  • Wow, that's sick... Is that a Fender Banjo? I think mine's the same one.

  • for that did you just take the reso off your banjo??

  • Yes

  • I do not know about a Banjo. Steve can play.

    Kiss My Ass.

  • what banjo is that it kind of looks like a epiphone mb200 with the resonator removed

  • That was cool, I been playing learning clawhammer for a month after about 18 months of bluegrass, and fail to see how anyone can make their hand move that fast! But, I guess time will tell.

  • well payed i realy liked the part between 00:42 and 00:57 nicely played, keep it up

  • wow your doin a very difficult job ! Congrats !

  • lol i can't stop smilin when i play my banjo :D

  • is that a melodika in the background? my bandmate was playing one of those so hard at a show she puked into it :) tried to play it off like nothing happened!

  • i smile when i play cuz i love the music (not saying you dont but thats how i show it while playing)

  • I also have never knowingly smiled whilst playing any instrument, apart from maybe the kazzoo and the banjo is no exception. It's not that I'm not enjoying myself when I play, it just doesn't create a smile.

  • COOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

  • Great rendition! It would be nice to see a smile....banjo players are too serious!

  • Is this ADGBD with a capo on 2nd?

  • it sounds like regular tuning then capoed at 2nd and the high G raised to A

  • Any chance you could repost this a bit slower? Or is it available in tab somewhere? SWEET!!!!

  • Wow! I love this! 5/5, I'm a banjo player myself.

  • incredible agility for clawhammer style - congratulations

  • thats amazing man! really cool variations on the original tune ! 5/5!

  • lol awesome playing, but have fun too eh?

  • thats awesome

  • Allow me to demonstrate my ignorance for a moment. Can someone please explain what "clawhammer" means regarding the banjo please? Is it a style of playing? Or is it a particular type of banjo? Thanks.

  • Clawhammer is a style,But the way this guy is playing is not the clawhammer style I know.

  • Clawhammer is a style of playing where all of your right-hand movement of striking the strings is downward and only involves one finger and your thumb. It makes keeping a steady rhythm really easy, even with syncopation.

  • It is also a style of Banjo, Bluegrass banjos have resonaters on their backs, while clawhammers have open backs.

  • Thanks. `Learn something new every day!

  • Unless you play like Grandpa Jones, Clarence Ashley, Roscoe Holcombe (sometimes), Brother Oswald, Ralph Stanley (again, only sometimes), any of the Sand Mountain-style guys...

I could keep going, but I think I've made my point. Although you CAN call an open back banjo a "clawhammer" banjo (nobody says just "clawhammer" for the instrument itself), it's not strictly true. There are/have been plenty of clawhammer players who play banjos with resonators.

  • Wow! I would have checked to make sure all my fingers were still there after that... spectacular!

  • Nice! Sounds great, but I gotta agree - smile! You look to serious!!

  • relly good but you gotta smile dude... the look on your face kinda killed it for me

  • does grandpa jones play clawhammer?

  • YEAH!!!!!!!!!!

  • Amazing..an art form preserved Absoluty wonderful---keep "claw Hammerin" it!

  • what key did u do that in

  • The Key of A

  • Awesome hahaha totally awesome

  • Hot damn. Yeah!!!

  • hahaha nice strait face.. lol.. seriously thoe that was nuts

  • well done mate

  • that banjer looks just like my danville

  • Blazing! Keep Picking!

  • how in tha hell u do that i pick 3 fingers and its easy tried doin that lol i suck that way u r 1 great clawhammerer u know three fingerin as well ?

  • same here, i cant even do the little hand thing =)but 3 finger i can do easily

  • Nice one mate, good playing

  • Now thats a five knuckle shuffle!! Keep on pickin picker!!

  • modern? that aint modern taht how banjos was played way b4 bluegrass came round anyway i gotta banjo like that danville aint it?

  • Whew, pretty good! I'd ask you to join my band but when we do bluegrass we play in the traditional style, not so modern like this.

Check out our version of the old time classic, "Come On Day" (at my youtube page) and let me know. We are gonna start playing out in bars this summer.

  • You have no idea what you are talking about. This is the traditional style. Bluegrass came much much later and was invented by professional musicians, not your average folk picker. This is how a banjo is supposed to be played.

  • Man as a clawhammer banjo player I always get knocked by people saying "clawhammer is too slow and it sounds sloppy sped up" Well this video evidence that that's just untrue!

  • aye, i personally think it sounds awesome for alot of songs, but for some songs, like maybe imagine (lennon) it may not be the best, but i wish i could play that style like you guys, but my fingers cant stop wigglin =)

  • Bravo! Dude!!! Bravo!

  • you are badass

  • AMAZING!

  • Thats sick! ur hand must hurt after that.

  • I've never seen anybody play this in Clawhammer style (obviously Mr. Scruggs didn't). Very nice job!

  • Holy crap!! You are freakin fast!!

  • Excellent....need I say more?

  • Thats the fastest clamhammer playin iv heard!!

  • holy crap you play so fast! thats some good banjin!

  • You are awesome.

  • great job, if you want to see the pros

search "earl scruggs and steve martin foggy mountain break down". it will probably show 2 versions watch both.

  • You can own my soul if you can teach me clawhammer like that!

  • hmmmm, interesting I see a melodica in the background, o and very nice work on the song, my grandfather would disown me if i ever attempted clawhammer lol.

  • DUDE! That was fantastic. I watched it 5 times in a row. Nicely played.

  • Very nice

  • WAY COOL!!!!

  • Outstanding!

  • Dude, you friggin tear that thing up

  • I loved the section with the descenidng parallel chords. Don't know why, but that's just one of my favorite kinds of runs to hear ont he banjo. just magic! Checkout my fiddle medly if you have a chance

  • nice man... did screw up in the beginning or was that on purpose gahahaha. i play scruggs style and i usually screw up when starting a song, but once i'm rollin i'm like a machine ghahaha. man i love banjo

i liked it a lot man never heard foggy mountain breakdown clawhammer style ghaha

  • I prefer the sound of clawhammer to Scruggs style...Earl is insane good, but clawhammer sounds better to me

  • wild

  • VIVA LA CLAWHAMMER

  • bravo!!!

  • Extremely well done!!! Bravo!

  • hmmmmm........ neat.....

  • There was a point that I could have never guessed it was foggy mountain! Nice clawhammer, but this song might just sound better while played in Scruggs-style.

    Still, very good job!

  • awesome mate.

  • you should use picks

  • this is a totally different style of playing...for clawhammer you dont use picks

  • Amazing, thats the first time ive ever seen that done clawhammer style. Where are you from?

  • Long live the clawhammer

  • You got the mad skill dude. Please for the sake of good music keep it up!

  • That's too good! In one of your other posts you said the banjo was tuned normally. G tuning? 5th up to A because of the capo? And man I want to see a close up slow mo of your right hand. I play bluegrass but just cant get the rythm for rapping it. Good job though.

  • dude that was cool dont listen to these knuckle heads!

  • Your a moron acalmerkarma... you ever try and play banjo... its hard... i want to learn... but its not as easy as it may seem... i play guitar and i figured that would help a little to get the basics... but nope... its harder then guitar... amazing instrument though

  • Haha, listen to all the banjo experts telling you to use fingerpicks. Good playing.

  • I feel I need to defend this gentleman's talent; he's not using finger picks because it isn't that style of playing...hence the term "CLAW HAMMER"!

  • no its "CLAWHAMMER" What do you think Earl Scruggs would say about not using picks I myself play with picks and clawhammer but picks are way better sounding. I mean dont get me wrong he can play good I just think it would sound better with pick especially in this song.

  • you should learn to use finger picks...it would sound cleaner.

  • Really Cool, not a big fan of banjo, but really Loved it !

  • glad to see i ain't the only one clawin' on a bluegrass banjo. that is awesome good sir, hope to hear ya' plunkin' at a festival sometime.
