I am a british beach lifeguard, we are a world class service, the skinny, stupid, pool guard doesnt represent british lifeguards, hes a first aider, not a lifeguard.

The commentator is right, being a pool lifeguard and a beach lifeguard are totally different. Im an english pool lifeguard but certainly wouldnt think of trying to swim that far out in massive waves whilst wasted.
