i live round the corner from here, in the shadow of the eagerly named "chipmunk mountain" (its more like a hill with houses on it) and i hate to burst everyones bubbles but i can confirm they are ground squirrels :(
butttt, everyone calls them chipmunks, so its staying that way.
These chipmunks are not originally from Fuerteventura. They are actually saharian ones, well prepared for these type of dry weather., they can survive without water during long time. They have been introduced in the isle accidentally during the second half of the XXth century, maybe thru the spanish legion settled in both places. They have been causing big problems in tomato plantations, etc. They are not allowed to be taken away from Fuerteventura and now they are part of it and protected.
im going here next year at the beginnig of august, is it good, and is it hot?

They will be wild if you keep calling them chipmunks. They`re a type of squirrel from Africa.

Chipmunks are now to be seen in the wild in London too ! Presumably escaped from captivity like those wallabies and parakeets.

One of the many things I miss about Fuerteventure, can't wait to go back. I really miss the climate too! it's so cold here in the UK!!
