Recently studying ASTROTOMETRY (please note the difference)
I learned that incoming sungrazing comets ALWAYS precede a CMA (precede isn't quite accurate-his model uses hypersymmetric)
Electromagnetic pulse from a solar storm is been of recent interest to government.
Research studying the impact of a devastating solar storm in our technical/communications-dependent society has been the presented to the White House
Their response and lack of preparation for the general population is disappointing
I found out about the threat of an EMP while studying astronomy. It was only recently that I learned that this could happen if a rogue nation or enemy launched a crude mid-range missile into the atmosphere above the United States.
It's only logical that if someone dared to attack us without fear of a retaliatory strike, this is exactly how they would do it. Our ability to strike back would be crippled, we'd never know who did it and we'd start killing each other in a matter of days for water.
This is a very intersting topic, and its crazy how vulnerable our electronics are to EMP. A terrorist attack EMP is plausible, but a solar storm EMP is inevitable. Scientists predict that a major solar storm will occur in 2012. More people need to be aware of this threat and take action.
I've been researching what is called a "Faraday Cage," which might be helpful to protect electronic equipment such as your emergency radios and your vehicles.
The problem is you wouldn't want to be the only vehicle on the road, either. Can you imagine mobs of desperate citizens trying to take your car so they can find water?

I never knew EMP was such a threat. This conference sounds like a great way to learn how to protect against EMP.
