I always adored Danny Kaye. I was a heartbroken young lady when he passed on. It's been so good to be able to introduce him to my own children through DVDs of his work.
It seems that Danny, at times, SOUNDS LIKE TONY CURTIS! Tony has a great voice.I checked Danny's with Tony on the clip called "What's My Line? Tony Curtis" I noticed it especially at -- 0:30 (Baby); 1:22 (Hi Baby); 1:33 (I'll call him Cecile); 1:40 (The Baby); 2:17 (...Ellington isn't it); 2:45 (I certainly hope so); 3:34 (Oh yeah).
It is very funny when Danny puts his hand on his own head at 2:56!
Why is Danny staring at the other guy's head at 0:38? I don't get the joke, but it looks funny!
@suabranches A lot of his movies have been released on DVD (some Region 1, some Region 2, and classics like "The Court Jester" should be available in both codes) so you can buy them - amazon usually has them.
Oh thank you for this clip! I really needed to see Danny Kaye at his best and finish up in laughter and tears all at the same time. What wonderful memories this brings back, as I used to watch this show as a teenager!!!!
Even though Danny Kaye was way way way before my time I still think his comedy work is genius and will live on forever. I love the way he says "Dirty baby".
That's the joy of recorded entertainment. When it's carefully preserved, it lives forever. The odds of my meeting Danny Kaye when he was alive were no better than they are now, so what do I care if he's dead or alive? He's delightful!
So true. I actually sat behind him in one of those box seats at the Hollywood Bowl August 2nd, 1980. It was cool that evening and he turned around, arms crossed, mouthed "it's cold", and gave a little Danny Kaye shudder. Memories.
That is sooooo cool! I wish I could of met him. He seems very nice. I can usually tell that about a person if they are nice or not. Was he with his wife there? I can't get over it... You saw him in person!!!!!
Yes, we live in an unusual time because so many of these people lived or died so close to our own lifetimes. But in 30, 50 100 years, no one will say, "I'm only 22, but I like so-and-so." It will be a moot point, like saying, "I'm only 22, but I like Shakespear." Our ages in relation to theirs won't matter at all. Think of how people will react in 500 years! Danny will still be making them howl.
I love Danny Kaye. I wish they would put his whole T.V. show on DVD. It's so sad that he did not have a long running show but his film work is beyond compare!

Check out "The Best of Danny Kaye: The Television Years." It's available on Amazon. Cheers.

Thanks for pointing me in that direction. I'll check it out. I'd like to see his shows as an
adult. When he was on the air back then, I was in nursery school....Around when all the stations were going to colour broadcasting.
