Mags and it worked quite well for qualification purposes. It is completely unreasonable to use during a combat situating and therefore should only be used as a last resort. If your support gunner is using m-16 mags while you are in combat, you should just get the F@ck out of there. lol. you are screwed

I always thought that STANAG feeding was supposed to be a substitute for the extra man power used

to carry ammo. I presume you already know this, but back in the day there were at least two men

opperating a machine gun.(One shoots, the other feeds the gun/ carries the ammo)

And My understanding was that SAWs were used because they`re lighter while doing the same thing

strategically, and you can conserve the manpower because you can fire off of rifle magazines.

**** wow, so many comments and views. THX guys. Didn't think it would be that popular. Yes, the couple vids I posted here were shot in South Korea. It's a small range used for small arms qualification and was up near the DMZ. This qual was for the M249 SAW and we did once during the summer and once during the winter using both belt fed and magazine fed ammo. I am suprised at all the comments about the magazine fed qual. Hell, it's in the m249 field manual. We had no jamming problems with the

@lvska1 The reason why your video got so many comments and views is because it is freaking awesome. There are lot of people that like guns. Heck the M249 is one my favorite machine guns. Heck I got to fire one at a military reinactment once. One of the local National Guard units was giving weapon displays and they did firing demonstrations with blanks.

DMZ? This is in South Korea. The North are no match for the almighty M249. What will they have? AK-47s? Okay, fine weapons, but they won't have very good sights, only the factory irons. Outrange them. Use DMRs, SDM-R and SAM-R rifles. A Javelin would be perfect to deal with the crappy Northern tanks. They will most likely attack "en masse" with their millions of soldiers. Mow them down with machine guns. The ROK Army developed their new K-11 rifle/grenadier weapon. What can the North do?

There could be something wrong with the gun then, maybe something's bent in the feed tray cover. I've never had the first round jam, don't get me wrong she does jam a bit but a simple re-rack of the bolt(in most cases) and she's good to go again.

Dude it's in the right position. It would only be in the way if it was in the downward position. It was made like that so troopers could quickly lift it and land it properly during a 3-5 second rush, and still be able to fire. I never kept mine in the downward postion, what the point.
